  1. I'd recommend picking up a copy of 8417/8430 Mag Wheel Master to compare/contrast with 8838 Shock Cycle. Also definitely get something with a Technic Figure. Now that I've gone through your whole list, looks like you've got those both covered! I'd have to push you on getting the 8068. It's a really nice machine. New and studless, yet everything is still manually mechanically driven - something I really like (sets that work via gears and hand power, instead of just batteries). '97 seems to be a hot topic year. I was going to recommend 8229 for it's varied use of studded/studless and inexpensive price, but you've got a good pick with 8414 too.
  2. While not exact, check out this: http://www.moc-pages.com/moc.php/270408
  3. We've actually never had a steam train locomotive. I think that'd be an interesting one to build; especially a 'Shay' type locomotive. I'm working on plans to MOC one, but it's slow going. The long square tubes at each end of the three vertical pistons are sliding joints that lengthen and shorten as the train goes around curves.
  4. Thought: They've printed an 'errata' or 'addendum' page explaining it all and have to re-pack them with the added page?
  5. USA shop website: We have experienced delays in shipping the Porsche and are working tirelessly to correct the issue. As always, our design team has focused on designing a premium product and we want to ensure that it arrives at your doorstep in premium condition.
  6. The USA page at LEGO shop says this: We have experienced delays in shipping the Porsche and are working tirelessly to correct the issue. As always, our design team has focused on designing a premium product and we want to ensure that it arrives at your doorstep in premium condition.
  7. I found the rims on the "replacement parts" section of TLG's site:
  8. I think the reason for the D-N-R ordering of the gear selector and sticker is fairly un-complex, even if silly when you think about it. Forward gears are forward on the LEGO car, and reverse is towards the back of the car. Makes sense that way, but when put against every car on the road, it's backwards.
  9. You'd think the rules for the code as well as the site would be part of the information that is BLATANTLY OBVIOUS. I think that makes it even more disappointing.
  10. That IS lame. Both the content, and that they used your code on you.
  11. Seasider posted it first: http://www.lego.com/...nic/codebreaker Each code is only good TWICE.
  12. Any chance to check out what the code is for by anyone that has one? I'm also on the list of people who really want to know what's hidden behind that door...
  13. Wow. So $450, then: eBay takes 10%, $45. PayPal takes their cut...3%? Using 3% of the transaction that's another $13.50. Shipping via USPS (as listed) with a weight of 8 pounds (3.6 kg) is $28 for ground, $49.50 for Priority Original cost of set + tax is ~$321 So that's $108 in fees on $450, making the total profit.......$21.
  14. I figured that some of the review style was dictated by requests from TLG/Porsche to do things a certain way.
  15. After looking at the reviews last night, I decided not to stay up late to try and order and would just hold off altogether on buying. Looks like it wouldn't have mattered anyway! I expected it to be a smaller scale representation of the real thing. Is it that? Yes. Both in form, and in function. I'm okay with a gearbox that shows a representation of how a dual-clutch arrangement works; it doesn't have to be 100% exact. 4 speeds instead of 7 is fine by me. Is the color perfectly the same shade as Porsche official? No, but it is a 'representation.' Again, TLG was working within the constraints of their materials, and Porsche found that to be acceptable - which makes it OK by me. Is it a true horizontally opposed flat six cylinder engine? No, and current LEGO parts don't allow for the ability to make one. They'd need new cylinder blocks, connecting rods, and possibly even a 1.5L axle and half-thickness version of https://alpha.bricklink.com/pages/clone/catalogitem.page?P=41677#T=C . This is also OK by me. If rear-wheel steering is a MAJOR feature of the real car, they totally could/should have done more to make that happen. Uwe may not have any experience with 8880 to remember or know how it was set up, but I'm sure they could have made it work by using those parts. The rims would have needed a slightly different design, but they were going to be a new part anyway. There would have been no cost of development to reprint the old pieces. That would have given proper Ackermann geometry steering as well. I'll still be looking to pick one up to go with my 8880, but it's not a "day one must have" by any means.
  16. Well, I have to say thanks to all you folks for your thoroughness! It was great to read the reviews in their various styles.
  17. That's pretty awesome! What's the pulley wheel with the belt on it for back in the yellow section? I've thought about trying to increase pump performance, but hadn't thought beyond switching to a new pump with a different stroke. I just added a tee, a manual pump, and a pair of white air tanks to replace the brick-built fuel tanks on each side.
  18. Looks like we have a code......? Pulled from AutoBild video. LG-P 6PQR6P9J ?
  19. I don't care one way or another about the box, but hadn't thought about the security device thing! Thanks for that reminder. :)
  20. I don't know if he pulled material out, but it looked like there was space between the set box and the shipping box in the video. From the sound it made as he pulled it out, I think TLG is using HDPE foam on the corners to protect/center it in the shipping carton.
  21. ^^ This. I want to be part of the rush, not part of the "backordered for 3 weeks" group. :)
  22. This. How late do I have to stay up pressing F5 until the 'buy' button is activated?
  23. Porsche approved it's shape, so I'm okay with it. I'm sure they realized that TLG was..."working within the contstraints of the available build medium" or some fancy speak like that. It's a toy. It's not going to be perfect. TLG isn't billing it as a "LEGO-based mechanical reproduction," so I've nothing against them. Sure, it's a toy possibly designed for adults, but that doesn't mean it's not a toy.
  24. Except that one has no rear spoiler, and the LEGO model does...?
