[TECHNIC] 2014 Building Itinerary
NevynPA replied to Lakop's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I'm hoping to make a Technic Shay steam engine this year. If I'm lucky. -
Help ID'ing part?
NevynPA replied to NevynPA's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Oh, I wasn't even going to THINK of placing a bid until I had 100% confirmation on what those things were. They didn't look like "LEGO yellow" to me... it was too shiny. So, being only recently out of dark age, I yelped for higher authority - you folks! -

I was leaning that direction too, skppo. I'm going to leave it go. -
Help ID'ing part?
NevynPA replied to NevynPA's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Fixed the link. It's from an ebay auction. I was debating snagging it, but I wanted to get those big yellow wheels ID'ed first if I could. Are they Robo Rider parts? -
I've looked through the parts list but I can't find anything that resembles what is shown here. What are the big, yellow wheels down in the bottom right of the box? They look to narrow to be the tires in the instructions. *EDIT* There are some parts included from other stuff, so they're almost guaranteeably not from the original parts list. A larger photo can be found at the link. http://imgur.com/1yA39eR

Nico71's Creations
NevynPA replied to nico71's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
My 3 little girls were all amazed by it. As soon as there are instructions and a parts list, I'm going to have to look at how much I need to get to build one! -

That is absolutely astounding. -
My apologies for the misunderstanding!

Your Best Technic Bargains
NevynPA replied to Kumbbl's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I just got a mostly complete 8838 for $10; the only thing that seems to be missing are the handlebars. Wheels, shocks, chain, everything else is there. Going price here is ~$30 USD. I'm chasing down a 9393 NIB for $28, too. -
I think it feels less robust because it's not as sharp! :D I'm just like you guys, back in after a long hiatus. I'd recommend an 8430 as a mix of studless and studded building - and it's less expensive, too. I think some of it is the fact that because studless doesn't have any direct connection between beams (it's always a pin/axle), it has less "torsional rigidity" than a studded set where they are direct-connected and then most of the time double-braced as well.

Yeah, well...I want to see what's left over after I have 8868 and 8880 assembled. To be honest, after those two are built my Technic selection is very meager. I've got a couple MOC things I want to put a go at, but the LEGO fairy seems to skip visiting my house while the bill fairy is pulling double shifts...

I agree with those before me. Seeing it like this makes it fr'deeking adorable! That's an amazing job of cramming the functions into such a small body!

Now this is the EXPENSIVE way to do it, but it's probably the most accurate... If you had access to a 3D printer, you could design a new shell for the RC servo that fits lego stud/studless scale and has mounting holes. However, if you don't own or have a friend with a 3D printer, then going down that road is about $1500 USD to start.

I'm a HUGE fan of title cleanup. That, along with standardized "prefixes" go a long way toward making search easy. Things that have become common use for prefixes like [WIP], [MOC], [REVIEW], etc. make search and identification real easy. As far as general conversation, I'd rather a bunch of small threads than one "general" thread, for the 'lost topic' issues already mentioned. Keeping those threads in a "lounge" is a good idea from what I've seen. It's not easy to be a moderator; I was one for a while at a different site. Keep truckin'! You're doing great.

Welcome! You're not alone. I'm waiting for funds and Christmas to start working on expanding my studless collection myself. -
[WIP] Technic Bridge
NevynPA replied to skriblez's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
What about using ZNAP parts for bridges? Or is mentioning that stuff here going to earn me a public flogging? I have one ZNAP set, and I'm not sure when/how/why it came to be in my posession. I know my mom got it for me as a kid/teen, but that's all. http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=39932 -
Half Tracks
NevynPA replied to MrNumbskull13's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I built one years ago with rubber tracks. I'd like to build one 8868-sized, but I haven't spent the money to buy tread links yet.
