The Tiger Tank

Very cool moc. I love the detail. You've managed to cram a lot of stuff in a small space. Your videos are really great as well. -

Your alternate models are really, really great! Your F1 car should have been the A model for 8041. Nice work.- 165 replies

Instructions for the 1H sets (not including log truck) are now up on the LEGO website. -
I dunno....I'd like to see a motor with more torque than an "M" motor, but with the same size. But, then I guess there would be no point in using an "M" motor now. LOL. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Honestly, I don't think we really need another size motor (unless we get a micro motor, which isn't the case here).
-
I'm guessing the "L" motor would be slower, but have more torque than the "M" motor. It would also be faster, but with less torque than the "XL" motor. Hopefully, this "L" motor will be the same size as the "M" motors. If it is the same size as the "XL" motor, than I don't see any point in using it over an "XL". A servo motor would be a fantastic addition to Technic. I hope this becomes available as an individual component at LEGO S@H. I'm not sure I understand why a new remote would be required for a servo motor, but I'm not an electrical guru either. The current remote already has return to center. I'm loving the helicopter! Alasdair Ryan, good catch seeing the "batteries not included" label! If this thing has a motorized winch and landing gear, I'd be stoked! :thumb up: Also, it looks like the helicopter may have a working door on the back, below the tail boom.

That helicopter looks great! I've been waiting for another large helicopter ever since Whirlwind Rescue came out. It looks like it has a swash plate too! I'm a bit bummed about the rock crawler, and if this is the supposed to be the 2012 flagship model, I'm a bit disappointed. I do like the color scheme though. Tractor? I must have missed that.

The big gearbox thread! ^^
dhc6twinotter replied to sevs's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hey Sevs, welcome to the forum! Are you referring to multi-speed gearboxes (transmissions) used in vehicles, or are you referring to the type used to control multiple functions, like the gearbox in the excavator? -

I actually don't see very many log trucks that are straight-trucks around here, and I don't think they are very common in other parts of the country either. Most of our log trucks are semis. Every now and then, I see a log truck based on a straight-truck chassis, but those are usually owned by some mom-and-pop log company that modified a truck with a rudimentary winch and lever system to load the logs. Some have dual drive axles, and some have a single drive axle with another to support weight, as allanp mentioned. Every semi based log truck I have ever seen in the US has at least 2 drive axles. Some may have an additional drop axle on the tractor to carry more weight, and I believe, some even have 3 drive axles in the rear. Some log companies use trucks that have driven front and rear axles too, although these are mostly used within muddy log sites to move trailers around. I think most of those trucks are modified Army trucks (deuce-in-halfs, etc). I doubt 9397 has two rear diffs. -
Pretty cool! It looks like it's a 2 stroke design. It sounds great! The chains and gears are just for aesthetics, and the axles on top of the motor may keep the valves from flying up too high. For a true 4 stroke motor, the camshafts would have a gear with twice as many teeth as the crank gear. On real cars, the camshaft(s) spin at half the speed of the crank. But to answer your question, it looks like the valves are pushed up/down by a lever that rides along the top of the crank (the axle that the pistons and connecting rods are connected to).

To be honest, I don't remember if that was just the tires or both rims and tires. I think it was both tires and rims, since at the time, I didn't have any other rims that size. The rims are the standard size larger rims found on the Unimog and Supercar, so if you have those rims, new ones wouldn't be required. Your best bet is to probably order your tires through Paul or LEGO Direct. Yup, the turntable seems to spin fairly well. The gears mesh about as well as any other bevel gears that are 90 degrees apart. I think it's going to be a pretty handy part to have.

TechnicFreak, my local TRU had all the 1H 2012 Technic models in stock. I'm in NC. I agree. LUGBulk is starting up soon, and hopefully we can get the part numbers in time for the order. If you find out the element number, can you let me know? -
Yup, I've had pretty good results ordering through LEGO Direct. I bought 4 wheels from 8297 for $25, as well as 100 black gear racks for the same price. The black racks weren't available on Bricklink in that quantity, and $25 shipped for 100 was pretty comparable to the grey racks on bricklink. I did check on power puller tires and pneumatic cylinder brackets, but neither part was available anymore.

9 Cylinder Radial Engine
dhc6twinotter replied to gor Ipsa's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Sorry, I don't have any instructions or guides for mine. I will be glad to help however I can though. I've played around with the idea of doing a youtube tutorial on how to build one, but I don't know if I have the time right now....plus I think I sound cheesy on video. -

I like the tow truck, but only a V4 engine??? LEGO has been a few cylinders short the last few sets. -

Yeah, I noticed that when I was looking at a box in the store. Pretty lame spot for a motor. -
9 Cylinder Radial Engine
dhc6twinotter replied to gor Ipsa's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I built a 16 cylinder radial engine with variable pitch prop a few months back. 16 cylinders isn't really a realistic number of cylinders, and I would like to build a 14 cylinder version sometime. I'm not sure how I would build the crank. 7 cylinder engine would be difficult as well, but I think a 9 cylinder engine would be a bit easier. A 9 cylinder crank and connecting rods would take some thinking, but should be easier than a 7.
