    "Near as I can tell, Mister Emo with the Rolling Pin smashed a hole through the wall and was in the process of terrorizing our barman... I'm sure things aren't quite as they seem, since they never are, but he made it sound like the barman wouldn't be coming back if I let the two of them have their chat." Matthias indicates the barman hiding behind the barrels.

    "Well, the barman seemed rather in need of a hand, and I felt rather in need of a drink, but this masked baker of wintery doom claims the barman is his father, so I have no idea."     "So this is your home. Are these your people?" Matthias begins to realize that perhaps this king is just a man, and to doubt his long-held beliefs of the nature of kings. Strangely enough, this doubt only strengthens his resolve - if all kings are mere men, he reasons, then perhaps this one is enough.

    Preferring to let the party leader handle client contact, and beginning to be annoyed by the ruckus, Matthias raises his eyebrows to Dwinlas and gives a pointed look behind the bar, then heads that direction to see what's going on, hoping the other hero would join him.

    "At least my mother paid for some manners," the gnome mumbles under his breath as he turns back to the rest of the party and their erstwhile employer. "I am called Matthias," he introduces himself with a small tip of his large hat.

    Matthias downs the liquid social courage and wanders over to a man in a marksman's hat, sitting at a table with an enormous roast bird. "Well met and Merry Grogmas," he says. "Looks like a delicious feast!"

    Matthias joins Half-Born at the bar for a high-low effect. "Same here, same size," he says to the bartender as he tenders 5 gold coins onto the bar. "Anything interesting happening here tonight?"

    Matthias nods in agreement.

    Matthias opens the present and listens to small talk about bandits and blizzards, watching the other heroes offer increasing amounts of gold as he wonders when Calmcacil would arrive. He addresses the grumpkin once again. "Are you two members of a philanthropic organization? What will you do with the coin?"

    "I am indeed. Matthias, a Druid of Orrik, at your service. Are you the king of this city? Does the blood of the people of Eubric flow in your veins?" The gnome looks up at Boomingham's face. "I want to know that I am serving a true king."

    Matthias deposits 10 gold coins in the grumpkin bellringer's collection cup. "Peace to you and Merry Grogmas," he says to the pair.

    Matthias grabs his things and heads for the door.

    As he heads for the door, Matthias notices a man speaking to Calmcacil and another Elvish lady, and decides to listen in, still wondering if he's made the right decision, if this "Boomingham" had the right to kingship. When he hears dark-haired elf rhetorically attack the older man as a "king", the gnome assumes he's found his quarry. He marches over to the group, doffing his enormous hat, and inquires demandingly, "You are King Boomingham?"

    Following Nerwen into the Hall, Matthias registers his name as a member of the Sungold Alliance and registers his vote for option 2. For the life of him he can't think how either option will truly work, but his instinct tells him increasing the power of the various paramilitary forces in the city isn't the way to reduce violence.

    As Nerwen and Hybros begin their transactions, Matthias follows the crowd to the quest board and signs up for Quest #155 before returning to his seat with a fresh pint of cider. As Nerwen slips out of the Hall, holding her sunburst badge, Matthias follows, deciding more or less on a whim to join the Sungold Alliance.

    I was going to suggest the same. Thumbs up for whoever made the change - and you got the one I forgot, Hero Statistics!

    In that case, I vote we re-pin General Discussion and un-pin the Sungold Alliance, Crescent Union, and WolfKing Followers topics. The only topics that really need to be pinned are the Rules & FAQ, Hall, and General Discussion - that gives the best initial representation of what's imporant in this subforum.

    Matthias winces as Wineghilm asks the question. Never question a woman's hair, he thinks to himself, and worse, she's an elf!
