  1. Thank you very much Daniel's Dad. I had always had a copy saved in my computer for years and must not have copied it to my new computer. The link above is where I obtained the file. Yeah, the links are now ancient history.
  2. I agree with taking a percentage of the original hitpoints instead of a fixed value when a vessel runs aground. It could get real complicated real fast if there were toggles for every type of possible rigging configuration in the Excel file. If a person does loose a mast, the player maybe should re-enter their vessel's sail area for the vessel's updated speed with the downed mast. There is an xls file viewer available online at Microsofts website. Fore and aft sails are not treated differently. However, square and lateen-rigged sails are treated differently with their best points of sail. I like the idea of boarding rules. It's how most vessels were taken over in that era. There were not a lot of ships that were sunk during combat.
  3. I cannot find a PDF of this comic anywhere. The links above do not work. Either I have forgotten how to use Google or the websites it used to be at doesn't exist. Either way, it's not good. I used to have a copy of the PDF, but it's gone now. Can someone help me please?

    MOC:bathroom

There is a lot of great detail done for this bathroom. Good work! I only have one question. Where's the porcelain throne?
  5. You could check out the Set Review to find out for yourself.
  6. I love the music. It's pretty cool how you put the entire battle together. Is there a link available to download the program (in English )?
  7. I would like to see these tables that you're using. A vessel will typically bring in sail when firing at another vessel. They bring in sail to decrease chances of the sails catching on fire and only use the lower main sails which are the easiest to maneuver during a battle. My idea would have a vessel lower its speed when it begins firing a broadsides. A slower vessel probably would not be able to turn as much in a turn either. Islanders aren't prejudice. They'll eat anybody. However, it's not a big deal if we can't have cannibals. I think this is a good idea. A thought that I had would be to have your ship choosing a faction that it belongs to between Red Coats, Blue Coats, or Pirates. All of which would provide certain benefits and penalties to your vessel and crew. A vessel that goes to a friendly report could come in for repairs, upgrades, additional crew, etc.
  8. I have not attempted this, but I believe spraying on starch will stiffen the sails back up. When I was in the military, we used starch when ironing our uniforms. I can say with certainty that the fabric of our uniforms were stiffer. I would be careful about using too much starch, because I believe it may then leave a gloss or shimmer on the fabric.
  9. Tech Republic website had posted an article about Brickworld 2011. Someone from work shared the article with me and I told her that I was there! I saw Davey and fallentomato in the photos. I didn't recognize anyone else offhand though.
  10. I do believe that this form of double post is perfectly fine. These ideas add some unpredictability to the game, which I really like. Hey, can we have cannibalistic islanders at some islands too? If you get too close to their island, they'll come and attack your ship. Maybe being informed if a ship is within firing range, but I don't think players should know exactly where all of the shoals are located or if their vessel is on the brink of sinking (they would hopefully already know anyways).
  11. This is a nice looking Prime Mover. I like the construction of it. The main suggestion I have would be to try to have two ppl sit in the cab. I also agree with LT about the cab lights, but I really don't have any good ideas as how to make it look better. You may want to try some yellow or amber trans with the thicker side to the front.
  12. Got a PoTC set with pearl gold instead of chrome gold pieces yesterday. I was happy to know about this thread so that I was able to "order" the Chrome Gold pieces right away. Thanks!
  13. Congrats on winning the Best Sea Vessel Award! It was well deserved. Again, great job Nebraska. Here's a few photos that I had taken of the vessel at BW11. The water mines were simple, yet effective being portrayed above, and I really like the design of the torpedoes.
  14. Just look at the beautiful sword. Everything else is garbage.
  15. Frigate design was different before the 1740's and did have the higher poop decks. It all depends on which era of frigate Cap'n Red Coat is going for, which seems to be whatever looks the coolest. Here is an image of a 17th century frigate. We could just say that it's a corvette, which is basically a mini-frigate. I believe the gunboat is closest to a brig. As for the ships themselves: The Gunboat (Brig): The Frigate (Corvette): (If the pics were re-sized to 800x600, you could post them right into the forum. ) The coloring of the ships look really good and you've done a fine job at the overall design. I like the use of the "bubble-space-helmet" things for lamps. The two primary things about these ships I would improve upon would be to have the poop deck and captain's cabin transition better with ships' middle. And I would remove some of the stripes in the gunboats and maybe thicken them.
  16. I would think that the damage should at least be doubled when being raking at the stern. A vessel was always weakest at the stern. Cannon balls pass through the weak hull or windows and would run the entire length of the ship. Where as a broadside shot would have to pass through the hull, then the width of the ship.
  17. After reading through the rules, I don't remember there being any mention of raking. If there is not a mention of raking, I think a damage bonus should be included for a vessel raking another. From books that I've read, ships usually did not last long in a fight once they were raked and surrendered soon after because of the significant amount of additional damage it causes.
  18. Oh no a double post! One set I am really excited about since the Cars theme has come is: Now, I know what you may be thinking... "Phred, what could possibly be useful in a tiny little Cars set that has a lot of specially molded pieces?" Bear with me a moment. If you check out the BL Inventory for this set you may see what I'm talking about. There are three key bricks that have never been available in reddish-brown. These three beauties are: For your tiny MOC cannons. For your cannon carriages. Now, I am not going to go out buy zillions of these silly little sets for the rest of my cannons. But I am going to wait for these bricks to be for sale on BL and buy them there.
  19. Instead of the Tunnel set being exclusively for trains, TLG could sell the tunnel for a one-lane street or for a train, instead of being exclusively for trains. I agree that a Lego Tunnel kit being a mixed blessing.
  20. Are you talking about MY reddish brown bricks that I grabbed? Or were there other reddish brown bricks there before we got there?
  21. Great work on this ambulance! My wife is an EMT and drives/rides a very similar ambulance. I love the way the doors are created. I will definitely be referring to this model when I finally get around to creating my own ambulance.
  22. Horry, In the next version of the Excel tables, would you like me to add a toggle button that automatically adds 30% to the entered weight? Should the formula used be changed from "round" to "roundup"? This way if there is any decimal at all, it's rounded up. I had thought about placing an If/Then formula to add a one if the calculated value is 0. However if a vessel doesn't have a sail area, its speed should remain zero.
  23. Not sure if I'm allowed to do this, but I have attached these files to this post. I put these files on this post in case ppl want to avoid all the pop ups. Rules: Rules-for-Rocks-and-Shoals.pdf Tables: Rocks---Shoals.xls Spec Sheets: Template.doc I will finally begin to look through these files.
  24. For a first ship, this is really well done. I like the overall shape of it and the colors you chose workout very nicely. If it's a military vessel, it ought to have more guns. A couple more gun ports on each side within the rigging channels would have worked. Vessels did have guns that shot through their rigging. Just have to make sure that the gun isn't pointed right at a line. I look forward to seeing future vessels from you. Are these the only Hull pieces you have?
  25. Here's a picture of me with my daughter Lydia at her first ever Brickworld Convention. I don't think she cared as much as I did at the time. She couldn't come last year because I had to stand up in a wedding. Here is Siegy's ship with a close up of the commemoration sheet next to the ship. More pics in my Flickr
