LEGO Star Wars 2022 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!

The AT-TE is definitely the highlight of the wave for me. Glad to finally be getting Cody and updated Phase II helmets. Bit strange they didn't include them in the Republic Tank that just released. Hopefully the redesign won't be too big a jump that the current Phase II clones look incompatible next to the new ones. Looking forward to also getting the Jedi Starfighter and Taun We minifigure. This really has been a great year for getting some long awaited characters. The two Obi-Wan sets sound good but a missed opportunity not including all four Inquisitors in the Scythe Transport. Hopefully the Fourth Sister shows up later down the road in another set with some Purge Troopers. Will need to wait until I see pictures to decide on getting the Justifier or nor. Seems pretty expensive for what it is and the minifigure selection while expected still isn't great. Same applies for the Andor set. -

Honestly I don't expect to see the old armor pieces from Rebels return. The live action Inquisitor costumes don't look anymore elaborate than what Fennec Shand or the Imperial Ground Crew wear and can easily be done by just printing the torso. The only molds they really need to bring back are the round lightsaber hilt and Fifth Brother's hat (but even then they could cheapen out by using a printed dish like Embo) -

First time I've heard of it, but it does support the recent rumors of a UCS Razor Crest coming this year. Hopefully that means 75331 will still be the standard MBS set. -

Fantastic promo set! Its great to finally be getting Beru after all these years and the build of the set itself is very well detailed. Hopefully they have enough stock to go around for the GWP as I'm not looking forward to the aftermarket prices if Lego runs out. It isn't even just a Clone Wars generation thing. Cody has always been one of most commonly requested characters from the Prequel Trilogy even before the Clone Wars show was airing. Fans have been a lot more vocal about wanting him lately but the demand for an official Lego figure has been there for a very long time now. -

Never really considered the AT-TE being based off ROTS instead of AOTC, but it works. Its a perfect opportunity to update the 212th Clones to the new style, ditch the scorch marks on Obi-Wan and finally release a Phase II Cody. Possibly Tion Meddon as well. I'm skeptical on the next D2C being the Razor Crest given the number of fake rumors lately. It would be disappointing to get another UCS set when we're due for a new MBS set, although one benefit would be potentially getting a Kuiil minifigure. -

The next MBS being a Death Star remake just seems unlikely to me. It would be too redundant to release one so soon after the 18+ Trash Compactor which is a pretty expensive set in its own right. -

Hopefully Padme will be among the figures included in the upcoming AT-TE. Its frustrating that even after two decades we still haven't gotten a single figure of her Theed Battle, Mustafar and unripped Geonosis costumes yet. They really need to step up and push those three out ASAP. -

Love the new Republic Tank. The scale strikes a nice balance between not being as oversized as the original, but not being as small as the 2017 either. The new Mace Windu looks awesome with the printed gauntlets and makes me hope they revisit other characters like Anakin and Obi-Wan based on their Clone Wars appearances. Don't care if the purple clones aren't officially canon - they look amazing and can't wait to get them! All three quote sets look amazing as well. Its about time they updated the Stormtrooper design so that its on the same level of detail as the First Order and Clones, and the back printing on R2-D2 looks fantastic. Shame the dual molded C-3PO is exclusive to the Landspeeder but I appreciate the increased level of detail with the arm printing. Haven't seen her design from the new game yet, but I'd love to get a new Aurra Sing figure that doesn't come with an animated face print. Unfortunately sets from TPM and TCW are both fairly rare these days that I don't expect to see her revisited anytime soon. I think her best chance at a new figure would be if she shows up in either Lando or the Bad Batch season 2. -

I don't buy that this leaker is legitimate for a second, but the idea of the next MBS being Yavin IV doesn't feel too implausible to me. Its a location fans have been asking to be made for years and one that can't really be pulled off outside of being done as a MBS set. I suspect it will come down to either this, Endor or Geonosis. Jabba's Palace just seems fairly unlikely to happen this year when Boba Fett's Throne Room has just been released in stores, as would another Death Star when the Trash Compactor set is coming out soon. -
Marvel Superheroes 2022 - Rumors & Discussion
wesker replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
The Disney+ shows have all been a part of the MCU. Between that and the films we're looking at roughly 8 new releases per year. When the Marvel Superheroes line also has to take into account Spider-Man and Avengers/Infinity Saga sets there's only so much they can release in a single year. There comes a point where they need to prioritize which of the new releases is more important. We've seen with Star Wars that Lego has no problem releasing sets based on Disney+ shows but they don't have balance as many new releases and deal with the line competing with itself. Not to mention there's so much crossover between the characters across different properties that its almost unnecessary to have a set represent every new release. Half the characters from the Disney+ shows still got released last year. The ones that didn't like Kang, Agatha and US Agent are confirmed to return in future media making a Lego release inevitable. Take Ms. Marvel for example - why bother with a set based on her Disney+ show when you know she's going to appear in The Marvels shortly after? She's going to get a minifigure either way, but at least skipping one set means Lego can also have Iron Man or Captain America available in stores. And let's be realistic for a moment - how much material from the current shows was even worth making a set of in the first place? I've seen people suggest Hawkeye and FATWS both should've gotten a truck chase set, but hasn't everyone here endlessly complained enough about most superheroes sets consisting of boring vehicles? Didn't everyone here swear off from buying the Shang Chi car chase set for that very reason? One last thing to note is that for all the talk of X-Men can't have sets because they don't sell well, what makes everyone think the likes of Moon Knight, She-Hulk or Echo who are even less familiar to the general public would be any different? Being part of the MCU isn't a guarantee everything based upon it is going to fly off the toy isles. The Eternals have been massive shelf warmers and others such as Black Widow, Captain Marvel and Shang Chi haven't done that great either. -

But there's nothing to suggest that. They currently have multiple sets for "What If?" and "Spidey and his Amazing Friends" on shelves right now, both of which are based on cartoons. WandaVision, FATWS, Loki and Hawkeye are all direct continuations of the Avengers films starring fan favorite characters. How many sets do they have again? -

While there's no guarantee the $500 set is another modular building as its all just speculation at the moment, its not unusual for Lego to release multiple sets in a single year. Cafe Corner and Market Street both came out in 2007 while last year saw the release of the Police Station, Daily Bugle and Spring Lantern Festival. A big draw for modular buildings is the ability to combine and create a larger city block with them so it is somewhat beneficial to having multiple Marvel themed buildings out on the market at once. Doesn't really matter to me if its branded under Stark Tower or Avengers Tower. For all intents and purposes I see it as the same building with minor cosmetic differences. I'd be happy with a set that is themed around the Chitauri invasion of New York while the interior rooms are a combination of both Stark and Avengers Tower. Having an interchangable logo or top floor would be nice but not a necessity. Being an animated series shouldn't be a factor. We've just had one Marvel modular building based on the comics and another coming up based on the MCU. I don't think the source material really matters beyond being based upon what's popular. In the case of X-Men 97, a potential set has the advantage of not only tying in with a new release property while the hype is strong (as the Sanctum will be with Multiverse of Madness) but also capitalize on the nostalgia for those who grew up with the original show much like Batman has with D2C sets based upon the 1989 film and 1960's TV series. I definitely don't see an X-Mansion happening this year, but I wouldn't rule out Lego coming out with something for mid-2023 for when the show airs. -

The purple Clone Troopers look pretty cool. Bit surprising they went with a non-canon legion over one from the movies or Clone Wars, but still looking forward to getting them. Shame the Airbourne Troopers have ditched the cloth kamas. The printed one doesn't look as good without dual molding or side printing. -

The Triskelion would have to be at the bottom of the barrel when it comes to potential superhero D2C locations. There's just nothing remotely interesting or iconic about it. Even Avengers Mansion feels like a fairly niche option to go with that really only appeals to diehard comic book fans. It just doesn't have the same level of public exposure that the Avengers Tower or even the Avengers Compound have. -

I don't think an X-Mansion is out of the question. If anything I think it has a stronger chance of happening next year due to the X-Men Animated Series revival hitting Disney Plus. It has the advantage of both tying in with a new release while the brand is relevant again while also targeting older audiences who grew up with the original series. I'm sure someone will bring up how the past two retail sets didn't sell well with kids, but we're talking about an 18+ D2C that's generally aimed more towards older builders anyway. -

Same here. With the new movie coming out there's no better time to release a modular Sanctum and take full advantage of the hype and relevance while its strong. Although its probably a bit unrealistic to expect two modular buildings in the same theme released so close together if the larger D2C turns out to be Avengers Tower, but I'd love to be proven wrong on that. -

Not sure whether I like the new N1 to be honest. It does capture some of the shape better than past releases but the set feels ridiculously oversized for what it is. Understandable given the build needs to accommodate Grogu in the droid socket but I'd still prefer something closer in scale to the 1999/UCS sets. Hopefully the next time they revisit the classic TPM version of the ship they'll go with something much smaller and more affordable. The new BD Droid does look great though and Peli Motto is a welcome inclusion. -

Sounds like an exciting wave if the rumors are true. Been wanting a new Jedi Starfighter for a while and the inclusion of Taun We makes it all the more exciting. Its also been too long since the last proper AT-TE and glad we're getting another. Still I do hope Jango's Slave I and Bounty Hunter Pursuit are among the mystery sets listed without names. Both are long overdue for a remake. Not sure how to feel about Cad Bane's ship. On one hand I'm glad to see it getting made, but the price seems awfully expensive for what it is. Still it has the potential for a solid minifigure line up with an updated Cad Bane, Omega and Todo-360. I also like the suggestion of including another Kaminoan figure. Taun We in the Jedi Starfighter, Nala Se in Cad Bane's Ship and Lama Su in Slave I would be the perfect way to cover all three Kaminoan characters. -

I don't mind it being based off the post credit scene. The set is at least covering a few missing characters from ROTJ with the Quarren, Rystall and potentially a Nikto so I can't complain there. Black Krrsantan could still show up in the second set and aside from him there hasn't really been many other notable characters introduced so far that have stood out enough. Really just a few Mos Espa locals (Garsa, Majordomo, The Mayor) who fall under that "would be nice to have, are they realistic to happen?" catagory and 8D8 on the basis for being another classic ROTJ character. It would be nice to get a couple of new characters from the game in the summer wave. Unfortunately this game has been in development for so long that any upcoming figures we would've gotten a first glimpse at have probably already come out by now. -

Glad to see more classic OT aliens being introduced. The Quarren looks fantastic and has been a long time coming. Will be interesting to see if he winds up being just a generic henchman or as Tessek who survived the Sail Barge explosion. Rystall Sant is also a great addition. Hopefully if the palace ever gets the MBS treatment her inclusion opens the door for Lyn Me and Greeata also getting figures one day. There are no Leia issues. Hasbro confirmed in a Q&A there is no merchandise ban. She's still appeared in new product since the Disney buyout (just not as frequently) as well as media such as the Galaxy of Adventures cartoon. She was a contender last year for a Black Series action figure re-release and only lost out to Commander Cody. As far as Lego goes the "Slave Leia" name is irrelevant as she's only ever referred to as "Princess Leia" on the toy packaging regardless what costume she comes in. Any UCS/MBS set of Jabba's Palace and Sail Barge would be under the 18+ branding and the costume itself is no more revealing in Lego form than what came in the City "Fun at the Beach" set. I don't think they'd bother bringing back Bib's old headpiece when they can just use the new one. The fatter shape might be inaccurate to ROTJ but it wouldn't be any different to Season 7 Ahsoka using Shaak Ti's headpiece. The same could apply to the Gammorreans depending on how the new figure turns out. If they do away with the sandwich board approach and mold only the head then any differences between the ROTJ and Mandalorian/TBOBF costumes can be depicted with just the torso printing. -
Fantastic news about the Indiana Jones line returning! Now we just need Lord of the Rings to make a comeback. Hopefully KOTCS gets at least one set. I'm not sure the film is popular enough to warrant another set as grand as the Temple of Akator but a remake of the River Chase or Jungle Cutter would be a great way to represent the film at a moderate price point and cover most of the primary characters. Regarding the soldiers - I'm more than happy to go without them if it means getting all the primary villains this time. Too many of them were missing from the original line.

There needs to be a middle ground between filling in the missing gaps for older collectors while still being accessible for newcomers. A LOTR revival can't just pick up where the line left 10 years ago. It will need to start over and cover all the essentials such as the complete Fellowship, Gollum, Saruman, Helms Deep, Bag End etc. At the same time there's no reason why a revival couldn't prioritize Eowyn and Faramir over the rest of the secondary cast. Do we really need C-listers like Eomer and Haldir in the first wave again when they are much less significant characters with minimal screentime? Do we really need another Shelob set when the Balrog and Fell Beast can fill the same niche? Is there any reason why a Uruk-Hai Army remake couldn't be Gondor themed instead of Rohan? Its examples here where a revival can divert from the original wave and cover new material without taking away from the more important stuff. Finding that balance is key.

Hasbro also confirmed in a Q&A that they have not heard of any such Disney ban regarding Slave Leia. People really need to stop pushing these two narratives every time the topic of Jabba's Palace comes up. Or they just needed a vehicle to fill in a particular price point which is no different to the first time they released the Desert Skiff without Jabba back in 2000. -

The only real difference between Stark and Avengers Tower is the top level with the platform right? Everything beneath remained unchanged? So how about a 2-in-1 deal? Modular buildings have removable floors so why not include two alternate top levels that can be swapped out with one another? -

No official dates have been given yet. Latest speculation is Kenobi is presumably airing around May sometime while Andor will be fairly late towards the end of 2022.
