4554 train station MINT on eBay

Recommended Posts

Not a train fan either, but one of my friends owns this. It's a really nice looking set, and would not surprise me if it went up really high.

That's a rare set? I have two MNIB somewhere in my room back home...I think

Have a look at bricklink - none to be found MISB.

Pretty rare....

It's only 14 year old (1992) so probably will go cheaper than say.... 6080 MISB.

$250. Let's have some speculation peeps!

I predict 300. Train fans are integrists, like castle ones X-D So money is not a problem for them

Uh... it isn't? Cool, why have I always been worried then... bid away!

X-D

As for the station: I've noticed, too, that this one's reeeeeeally hard to find MISB. Also the red version. They do pop up on ebay.de now and then, but not MIB, let alone MISB.

On the other hand, I don't know what's so special about it. It's not my favorite station. It's a nice set with a nice building, no doubt, but I've never liked train stations that are just "a house". While they are pretty nice photography "models" in real life they just lack what makes them a train station: you know, platform roof and the like. 7824 is one I like. I know, it's very "plain", but looks more like a train station to me than 2150 or 4554 (and just look at the number of MF!). Might be the fact that I just like big, modern train stations, like the new "Berlin Hauptbahnhof" (Pic1, Pic2, Pic3, Pic4, Pic5) that just recently opened. The new LEGO City Airport goes in that direction, even more than 4513 which was a good start. I'd like to see a trainstation like the airport for next year. I won't buy the RC train sets but a good looking trainstation I'd buy.

Now back to counting my endless money supply...

Wait, the red version is rare too? :'-) I'll have to take a picture of my MISB collection <_< It's really random though, I don't tend to buy doubles, mainly if I'm given a second, or buy a spare by accident

They're at about the same price level, 2150 is just rarer seen...

Sorry, I'm not really into trains (I'm more a castle/space fan), but I'm a collector at heart :-P

Well, there you go. It blew us all away.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1

$461.50!!

do you guys look at the bidding history of sets? i often like to do that just to see if i can reconstruct what actually happened...

so here it is, the bidding history for this set:

http://offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=230005321199

i'm mostly confused about mariac9951's behaviour. it seems this member pushed the price quite a bit by him/herself

and look at 2968johnl... g... he/she probably thought it would cost him at best 50 bucks or so , but going all the way to 460? hm... still, it's insane... several trains don't even get that high...

I think what happened there was that Mariac put in a bid of 250, when the bidding was at 210. Then if someone else bids at say, 220, since Mariac put in 250 before hand, it justs bumps up the price to 220, with Mariac still on top. At least I think that's what happens...

Maniac kept trying again and again, raising the bid by 10 dollars each time, until at 305 he had enough to take the high bid over from Chuikinwah, who had put in his maximum of 300 earlier. Then Chuikinwah put in 451.50 to crush Maniac. This stood until a few hours before the end, when Ostpass took over.

Then, Johnl sniped the auction at the very end, with 457.77, but then put in an insurance bid of at least 461.50 (it could have been more, but eBay just needed 5 dollars more than ostpass's maximum bid of 456.50

Madness, but entertaining.

Yeah, a really good condition box MISB set which is one of "important" sets (4554 certainly was) is really getting up there these days. This particular seller has a lot of very cool things MISB available, apparently old stock that has been in storage.

I would probably pay this kind of money for a 6080 castle MISB excellent condition box, but realistically that would cost even more! The only one of which I know for sale is on Bricklink for 1500, and while that price may be partially negotiable, I doubt it would go below 1000$.

Cheers

That wasn't an insurance bid, it was his maximum at the time. 457.77 just wasn't enough to win because of the $5 increment. Since he did win it in the end he shows up twice at the top of the list. A bit confusing, I agree ;-)
