  1. Here is my review on LEGO Sonic The Hedgehog 76994 Sonic's Green Hill Zone Loop Challenge: THE GOOD: It's fun and the challenge is a lot easier to accomplished compared to the LEGO city Stuntz challenges. The full course does capture the vibe of the game well. The launcher is actually quite powerful. Excellent minifigures. Interesting printed elements and many Sonic in universe animals. THE NOT SO GOOD: No exclusive minifigures considering this is the most expensive set. Price tag is high without discount. Managed to buy this set with 50% off and I really wanted the new colour for the loop and a Dr.Eggman minifig. And wow this was pretty fun. If you have been experienced the difficulties with LEGO City stuntz challenges, don't worry, this one has a higher success rate just because the launch works extremely well. The only worry I have if the case holding sonic will crack at some point. Obviously, this set is designed for play so there aren't much complex or detailed builds in this. The overall outlook is great and does capture the vibe of the game. As added bonus, Dr.Eggman's robot and some additional details are added around the course to give this an enjoyable building experience as well. And as usual, there are no stickers in this set. The minifigures are great but my only complain is none of these minifigures are exclusive to this set despite this is the biggest and most expensive set from the theme. Of course there are pros and cons with this, first you don't have to buy this set if you just trying to complete the minifigures, however the other sets are cheaper than this one but you may end up spending more money even though this set RRP is quite high without discount as other smallers sets are not cheap as well. This set overall is really fun but it's definitely not for anyone. If you love Sonic or has particular parts you want in this, I'll definitely recommend this if you manage to find a good deal. Otherwise, this set may not be for you. (I guess that's why it's on clearance)
  2. Here is my review on LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog 76995 Shadow the Hedgehog Escape: THE GOOD: Shadow's bike actually look better than in pictures. Some very nice printed elements. Shadow is a great minifigure. THE NOT SO GOOD: Could have one more minifigure than just a brick built character but this might increase the price of the set. I ended up liking this set more than before I bought it. Apart from the Shadow minifigure looking great, the rest of the set is good. Yes it's simple but the bike turned out to be really good looking compared to the pictures. Also the chamber locking up Shadow is also a fun little build, plus that printed element with Shadow's vitals is just awesome. The Rhinobot is ok, and you do get a bird for this. I do wish for an extra minifig but this might make this set more expensive than it current price for a large margin. It's interesting so far, all Mario, Animal Crossing and Sonic sets have no stickers. With 20% plus discount on the Sonic theme in many places now, it makes this set really good value. If you like video game or interesting pieces, this is definitely a set for you.
  3. Here is my review on LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog 76996 Knuckles' Guardian Mech: THE GOOD: The Knuckle minifigure. The play feature with Rogue's glider is a nice surprised. THE NOT SO GOOD: The mech lack articulation joints to allow better play. The mech also looks surprisingly thing and flat from some angles. Honestly, I bought this set purely for Knuckles given me played a good deal of Sonic 3 & Knuckles, it just feel incomplete without the Knuckles Minifigure. It's great LEGO releasing him in a set that does not break your bank. The minifigure is very well done, so does Rogue. The only things I wish it had happen is Knuckles's hands to be a new hand element rather than an accessory clipping onto the hands. The gloves are very well made though. Now, the mech build is your typical mech build and given the price of the set, it does not allow much details. Lacking articulation on the knees really take out most of the fun. The build itself is ok while it looks uncharacteristically thin and I'm also surprised to see no stickers, in fact I think the printed nexo knight shield piece would be very useful in other mechanical build. The other thing I was surprised with is the the gem stone play feature, you can used Rogue's glider and connects to the big gem and fly away with it. And that's pretty much sums up this set. It's a must have if you like Sonic the Hedgehog in some capacity, otherwise nothing much would stands out for LEGO fans which has no interests in this theme.
  4. Here is my review on 76991 Tails' Workshop and Tornado Plane from Sonic The Hedgehog: THE GOOD: Great minifigures A cheaper set to get Tails Tornado plane surprisingly good looking and fun to build No stickers THE NOT SO GOOD: The work shop looks somewhat underwhelming. Personally I think the set is about $15 NZD too expensive if you are paying at RRP. (Luckily I bought this with a discount) This is the slightly cheaper set with Tails minigure and main reason I bought this. Both Sonic and Tails do not disappointed. These 2 are extremely well done. On top of this, the Tornado Plane is actually very good. The wings are brilliant both the execution of the design and the building experience. Also I'm surprised there are no stickers in this set. However, the workshop is a big empty and felt more like a Juniors set type of build but without those big pieces. Considering if you paid full price on this, it really feel expensive with the somewhat too simple looking workshop. I wonder if there was a point LEGO considered an alternate version just the plane plus 2 minifigures with a price tag a little bit cheaper. If you are a fan of sonic, I think you will love this set. It's definitely a set to go for if you are looking for the tails minifigure. And if you are not into Sonic, it's probably a set to skip =)

    [MOC series] Sonic Mania

Hi, all! I really enjoyed the Dimensions release of the Sonic the Hedgehog character, but found it a little lacking that we only ever got that one figure and a tiny build. I got back into LEGO in a big way with the release of TLM2 and the help of 70841-1 Benny's Space Squad, and realised that there was nothing stopping me from experimenting with my own. To that end, I've been working on a series of related builds since early February (although bits and pieces come from abandoned LDD files from 2016!) For those interested, I did publish this as a LEGO Ideas project back in late February, and it's already past halfway to the goal. If what you see in this topic takes your fancy, it would be very much appreciated if you supported it. ^u^ -------------------------------------------------------------------------- To start with, I decided to challenge myself by creating a collection of builds that looked like it might be an official LEGO set - with an economical use of parts, conservative use of new printed pieces, and a heavy emphasis on play features. The result was this - a number of small figures, two modules that could be connected together, and a giant robot because mechs are awesome! But the mech holds another surprise... ...it can be opened up to reveal a bigfig Dr Eggman (or "Robotnik", if you're so inclined)! The Eggman build was inspired by the Hawkodile figure from Unikitty 41453-1 Party Time, and it's the only thing in this topic I've also built physically as well as digitally (with some minor substitutions). Unfortunately, LEGO is a little costly to buy a ton of parts every time I want to make another build for this... Another thing I'm quite proud of is the spring function. By hammering a technic lever down, anything on top of it can be launched in the air! This is an adaptation combining two features I've seen in official LEGO sets - the spring component resembles a feature from Minecraft 21130-1 The Nether Railway, where a small button makes a Magma Cube move up and down, while the lever component draws more inspiration from the Go-Kart launchers from the Summer 2018 Friends wave. By this point, I'd already published the first group of builds, but I still had the drive to keep on going - so I started out with extra modules, each containing new action functions. This one is a falling platform! Flick-fire missiles are fun, don't judge me - even if the jumping fish badnik had to be compromised a little to work as one. Also - apologies for the text superimposed onto this image; I didn't save unmodified copies when adding it. If I had thought ahead, I probably would have saved them seperately. At the very least, I took care not to obscure anything interesting. One of my favourite set of builds is the Hard Boiled Heavies, though. They're an entertaining team of Badniks with great designs, and converting them to LEGO was quite fun. I did have to edit in a lot of fake prints, but I think they definitely came out quite well, given the limitations of the medium and the desire to stay in-scale. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you'd like to see more pictures of these and other builds, please check out my Flickr album! I intend for this to be a living thread- whenever I have a new build to add onto the project, I'll make another post in this topic. In any case, thanks for taking a look! <3
