Lego becomes world's second-biggest toy maker

I wonder what the breakdown by country is within Asia. Possible countries with high sales may include S.Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Singapore.

As a lurker for many years, I had read "things" elsewhere about ban happy Eurobricks staff. I'm glad that the policy has been made clear here. Out of curiosity have bans ever been revoked, or are they permanent?
  3. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-23968860 This is an impressive turnaround considering the company was in serious trouble just a decade ago. They have now even managed to overtake Hasbro in sales/profits. It is interesting to note that it was a sales boom in Asia which helped Lego through what was a slow start to the year. What does the future hold?

LEGO Star Wars 2014 Pictures and Rumors

So, I have been giving the AT-AP some thoughts. I have decided to share them. Some have expressed dislike for the vehicle's looks, however I personally like it. Sure, it gets a tiny amount of screen time, but I think it looks cool. It's all personal opinion of course. My enjoyment of the AT-AP is such that I bought the first one when it came out. Since the images of the new one were released, I've been comparing the sets to look at the differences and possible improvements. The first thing I noticed was the new one beats the old one on the accuracy of its appearance. It has nearly twice the number of pieces of the old one and that allows it have more detail. So we win there. I see some elements of the old one that have been carried over to the new, unfortunately the pictures are not good enough for me to pick out fine details. A major bugbear for me was the old AT-AP had a problem with gaps, lots of them. Underneath, in the rear......and I am not entirely convinced that these have been removed in the new model. Again, I can't see the details and I hope the higher part count has gone into fixing them. I really need to see a review to make up my mind especially given its price. Yes, the price...an increased part count means an increased price. The old one retailed at 40 dollars, this one is at 60. I feel it does jack the set up into the next tier of pricing, for what is frankly a minor vehicle in the franchise, albeit a (probably) well built one. I bought the original at a discounted price and felt that it was worth the price that I paid. I feel like the new one may also benefit from a discount. Plus you will most likely need to buy a battlepack to flesh it out. My biggest gripe (what a grouch I am) is the minifig situation. In the old one you had two clones but three (!) seats, and well that always did annoy me. On the plus side you got a couple of special clones which were only sold in ones in the battlepacks. The new one is even worse. Ok, you get three droids (shrug), they don't drive the AT-AP though. Opposing them, you get a Commander Glee and a new wookiee. Well neither of them are going to drive it either. So you essentially have a fancy vehicle and five unrelated characters in one set. Therefore you must buy a battle pack to flesh it out. I understand that many will be buying multiple packs as will I, but consider it one extra pack for purchase. I do wonder if they have thrown in Glee and the wookiee purely as a buying incentive, much like they threw in the two special clones in the old one. To conclude. I am cautious about the new set. It does like better, but it is considerably more expensive. The minifig situation is immensely irritating, but then again it seems like many Star Wars buyers spend more time fawning over new minifigures than the models themselves. So Lego throws in a few new figs and they will still be guaranteed to move enough sets off of the shelves. I'm going to wait for the review to see if the new model still has gaps, if so, I will stick with the old one and just mod it.

I know who you are talking about I too was wondering why they were banned... Many AFOLs are members of multiple Lego websites, so you can always ask them why they got banned via another website.

LEGO Star Wars 2014 Pictures and Rumors

It definitely looks like it, well spotted! That probably means that they are not going to be removed from the Star Wars sets and may even feature in other themes. Personally I am not overly keen on them, they just look a little too bulky and non-weapon like. I can see kids enjoying them for their playability, but imagine a lot of adults buying up SW long blasters on bricklink to equip their new armies.

    Cuusoo Issues

The best approach for Lego/Cuusoo is to ignore her. If there was a legitimate reason for banning her then so be it and let the issue rest. Six months from now it won't matter and we will have all forgotten about this.

LEGO Star Wars 2014 Pictures and Rumors

Personally I consider removing them to be a futile effort, just googling or youtubing the sets and their numbers gets you what you need. All (or most) of those who have an interest in Lego Star Wars will have seen them now and made their own opinions on the sets. Why does Lego not like us looking at the preliminaries? Probably in case they change something, which could be anything. Does that mean changes will occur? No, but they are probably just covering all their bases just in case. One way of finding out is to compare the current pictures with the official ones when they are released. I doubt there is any specific reason for the covertness (blasters included).
  9. I'm sorry, but I immediately thought "Bravely bold Sir Robin, rode forth from Camelot" You even have the blue flowers! Excellent build though.

Discussion Topic: Should there be a 2 storey modulars series.

I did see a recent thread in which someone felt the modular series didn't really fit in well with the city theme. I can see their point. To me the modulars are the large, impressive buildings with lots of decoration that you get in many western cities up until the 1940's (pre-modernist). In comparison, the style of CITY buildings is modernist and beyond. Therefore the modern world doesn't look "right" when placed next to or around the Modular series. It's actually a similar situation that is found in many places today where the old buildings have survived, and have modern ones built around. Often it doesn't look right to have these different styles sitting side by side. The older buildings look out of place in the modern world. Anyway the comments so far have been interesting. This is my first contact with other AFOLs and the responses are varied and educational. Do keep giving your opinions and I'll expand the questions to facilitate discussion.
  11. I've just looked at "The Flag Strip" by melbs and had an idea. What would you say if Lego produced a series of two storey modular buildings? These buildings would have a lower piece count and price than the current series. Perhaps in the size shown in Melbs topic, but with a bit more detail. You could integrate them into the standard City sets. "If" they were produced.... Would you buy these sets? Would you prefer them to the current series? Could Lego run both series concurrently, or is the market not large enough? Melbs topic. http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=85819

    Very Surreal Alpha Team Prototype

I'm trying to think of other themes that may have been designed by the video game team first. What about the Stunt Island theme, that was tied to video games pretty heavily if I recall? Anyway, really enjoyed your dialogue there and the research. I was a big fan of the Alpha Team series at the time. In hindsight, the sets had a few too many large elements, though better than the average for the time. But on the plus side it was the first spy theme for lego. The colour scheme and style is attractive. And at the time it was one of the better themes available, the early 2000s had little to offer you if you weren't thrilled with Star Wars or Bionicle. I prefer the changes made, it gave the theme focus. Like Opatra said, the Lego Logic is just too messed up. In fact it reminds me of the Time Twisters, with its pick and mix approach.
  13. Projects do seem be reaching the required threshold at a regular rate right now. I wonder if that will have an impact on the length of time needed to conduct a thorough review for each quarter.

MOC: Antarctic Snow Cruiser - An Epic Vehicle

Wow! Firstly, thanks for bringing this to my attention I hadn't heard of the Antarctic Snow Cruiser. It sounds like a fascinating piece of history. Secondly, that is a nice looking MOC. You've captured the likeness really well. I hope you can built it physically Thirdly, all the best with the Cussoo project. It will be a tough sell to attract a large crowd because I don't think many people will have heard of it (my be wrong). Perhaps you can use the style of the vehicle to win supporters (it looks almost futuristic).
  15. Remember though, that the Ghostbusters had a very successful cartoon series during the 80s/90s and that it appeared again in the 2000s. So unlike the other mentioned 80s cult films, this one has had a specific kids approach and has had a continued screen presence over the decades. So in theory if TLG is unhappy with the content of the ghostbuster films, they could just base it on the cartoons. Which makes for some interesting approaches, because Robocop had a "very" kid friendly TV series in the early 90s. So if a project based on the TV series were to reach the 10,000 mark I wonder if it would pass.
