By the end of November the furniture was finally done and installed: I had a small desk in one corner where I can do the small builds and other hobby stuff, with a wheeled chair that I can zip around the room . I had some short tables made, so that I could reach all the city, and also so that my kids can help me out with the builds. Last week I started the actual building, of course with the railroad. I was going to lay tracks all over the table, but I saw that that would severely limit the space for buildings, so I decided to only have track on the south side of town. The north side would have basically all the houses, buildings and streets, with just a passenger terminal in one part. Thanks man! I'm working on it, but i already have an issue: I need bucket loads more of light grey and (specially) bley tiles for sidewalks . BL will bankrupt my city...

That looks TERRIFIC! Can you control the direction it's going?

MOD: Constitution Express and Sister train
Werlu Ulcur replied to Hrw-Amen's topic in LEGO Train Tech
That looks terrific! I think the Constitution is a fantastic base for a running old style train. If I didn't already have the EN (Legoville is too small for two old style trains) this is the set I would get. -
Yep. If I were to make it longer, I would only elongate (one or two studs) the section between the cockpit and front wheels, and wouldn't add more curves.
-
Awesome! In my eyes the horizontal wing supports could be one stud shorter on each side.
-
My not be perfect, but it looks very good! If I may, I would suggest that you lengthen a bit the hood - it would make it look more proportional to the 1:1.
-
Really? You sure? I was certain that the EN was released after the Maresk . If the EN is really older, and being a much more complex/AFOL-oriented set, that would explain the prices. But some months ago, when I bought my EN, the EN was definitively cheaper.
-
I was really surprised to see that on BL currently a new sealed Emerald Night is more expensive then the Maersk train . I know how spectacular the EN is, but being a recent model I would think that the Maersk would always be more expensive. But for once I'm glad I made the right decision and got the EN first, even though the Maersk was a must buy for me ever since I started this train business . EDIT: I originally wrote it the other way around. Fixed it now - sorry!

Oh boy... I had a brain fart and wrote it the wrong way. Right now the Emerald Night is more expensive then the Maersk. Sorry, for the snafu, my bad . What ritzcrackerman wrote is how I see it too, so why is the EN more expensive?

Just curious, has Horizon Express been successful?
Werlu Ulcur replied to FlyerNut's topic in LEGO Train Tech
If it wasn't "electric" I certainly would have bought one. -
I made 6 trains crash into each other...

And that's the beauty of Lego: now it's just a matter of snapping a few bricks back together and all the trains are as good as new! -

Building MOCs like official sets
Werlu Ulcur replied to GregoryBrick's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I think the most important feature in my MOCs is swooshability/playability. Of course the model has to look like what I was aiming at, but it has to be sturdy to the point that I think I could use maybe 20% less parts then I usually use. It has to look good but it CAN'T be fragile. Like Gregory wrote, I see a LOT of MOCs where I have the impression that they need to be kept behind glass because a breeze may brake them. No problem with that, whatever floats your boat, but for me a fragile model just doesn't work. -
[Castle] What do you like best? Generic or Specific?
Werlu Ulcur replied to Artifex's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
MANY here collect minifigs, and also buy the set just because of the minifig (I've done that a lot of times for some licensed themes), so a theme-specific Castle/medieval line would have a more broader audience. However, what I would really like to see is these "generic" themes (ie,not from a franchise) to have skin-colored minifigs. Yeah, yeah, yellow minifigs are traditional but timers have changed, and so has the hobby. It gets expensive to hunt skin-colored heads and hands on BL for your MOCs. -
That looks VERY nice, congrats! Why don't you put one of the 7937 on the other side of the rail?

[Request] Pics of King's Castle 7946 and 70404 side by side
Werlu Ulcur replied to Artifex's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Maybe I'm going against the grain here, but the heptagonal tower of the current set is MUCH more attractive in my eyes. Since the walls are (aesthetically) basically the same, I think I do prefer the current castle. Yes, red is a better color and using chains on the draw bridge are cooler then using ropes, but still, the square towers brakes the Kingdom castle for me. And the roof on the Kingdoms' castle highest tower makes me think of a manor or a palace, while the crenelated towers of the 70404 makes me think of a fortress or a keep. So adding all that up, even though the 7946 is a very nice set, between the two I'll go with the modern version. -

Lego Superheroes 2013 Rumours & Discussion
Werlu Ulcur replied to CorneliusMurdock's topic in LEGO Licensed
Any chance of we seeing the Iron Patriot in some way that is NOT linked to the pre-order? I mean, maybe in the future? Though I do have a PS3 and want the game, I also won't have access to the minifig . -
Whoa! That looks fantastic! Nice to see something so different. And it being swooshable makes it absolutely terrific!

Guys, I'm in a minor dilemma. Let's suppose I don't have anything in the Castle line but by chance got my hands on a "Dragon Mountain" set (70403) just because of the oh-so-cool dragon. And now because of that darn red worm I'm starting to think that my future Legoville could spare a corner for a castle . The idea would be to have only one castle based on a regular set, not too massive and that more then probably I would improve upon (a little!), with extra sections. So here's the dilemma: what would be better to have as the only one castle in Legoville, the current 70404 "King's Castle" or the 7946 from 2010 ? I have never even seen these two sets in the flesh, only know them through videos and pics, so they're totally alien to me, but both look pretty nice. So far I was able to make a very short list of pros and cons for both: Price & availability: The new 70404 is quite cheaper and easier to find then the older 7946, and that's a BIG plus. Minifigs: From what I saw both sets are basically equivalent in the minifig department. However, I currently have quite a few red troops (from the chess set), so I would have more "human material" to go along with the red 7946. Architecture: Both sets also seem to be similar here too, though being quite honest I don't like very much the red & blue used on both for roofs and details - I would rather have something more realistic. Of course I could mod them to my liking, but in theory I would have more sets to add to the 7946 if I leave it alone, like that nice 10223 Joust set. I even looked towards the LOTR theme, specially the Helm's Deep set, but even though it's an overall nicer set (in my eyes at least), it looks like I would have to get at least two to make a full castle, since it's basically a wall in front of a mountain. And that would mean a more substantial investment in a theme (Medieval) that I don't collect. I looked on evilBay and BL and even the used and incomplete sets are basically more expensive then a MISB 70404. I could of course go the MOC route and build a castle exactly to my liking, but that would entitle all the fuss of organizing a parts list and, worse of all, the looooong wait to have everything at hand. I would rather take the easy road (= buy a commercial set) so that I don't have to deal specially with the waiting for parts. From the list above the red 7946 would be the set to choose, but because of price I think the best option would be for me to get the new 70404. What do you guys say?
