  1. Let me use strings as they are meant to be! Also CPU is a big one. I have a model that is around 25k bricks, and it's a bear to work with in LDD.
  2. Hello, I'm a longtime lurker, operator of my own communities, and a fellow user of IPS Forum software. I was just inquiring as to whether there are any plans on upgrading EB to IPS 4.0 software? I feel the community could really benefit from the improved user experience, new features and security of an up to date software. Just wondering :) Sincerely, DC
  3. Hello all, I've been out of the game for a year or so but am jumping back in. Is POVRay still the best way to render? I see it hasn't been updated for quite some time.

    BURN Charity Contest

** Posted with permission from the administration team. ** Hello! My name's Dakota and I run a little niche site called Emergency Bricks. We have partnered with the BURN Documentary to put on a little charity contest that is open to all who wish to participate. ABOUT THE DOCUMENTARY: BURN ( http://www.detroitfirefilm.org/ ) is a feature documentary about Detroit, told through the eyes of Detroit firefighters, who are charged with the thankless task of saving a city that many have written off as dead. Firefighters have an up-close view of the best and worst in any city. This is especially true for Detroit. Detroit is a picture of the future of American industrial cities in a post-industrial age: One foot in a prosperous past, with an uncertain next act, struggling to survive in a changing economy. Since 1950, racial tensions and vanishing industry have cut Detroit’s population in half from 1.8 million, making it a housing market horror story and leaving behind 80,000 abandoned homes. And in Detroit, social problems manifest themselves in one way – FIRE. The result is a dying city with one of the highest arson rates in the world. Every day, these firefighters face injury, disablement, and death. But they come back, day after day, resolved to make a difference. They’re certainly not here for the money — their starting salary is $30,000 and they haven’t seen a raise in 10 years. BURN tells the story of these exceptional individuals who, despite the challenges and dysfunction, believe in their city and are attempting to make a difference every day. Every time that bell rings, the doors of E50 roll up, its crew step into worn boots, climb into decrepit trucks and drive out into the crumbling streets of Detroit to battle these complex problems. Until now, no one has properly explored these issues, and these characters, with the depth and detail they deserve. THE CHARITY CONTEST: Emergency Bricks has partnered with the filmmakers of the BURN Documentary to spread word of their film and raise awareness for the firefighters of the city of Detroit. The contest is a charity, in which participants are challenged to create a LEGO creation that represents either the documentary or the Detroit Fire Department, most creations are expected to be model replicas of Detroit fire trucks & apparatus. These creations are donated upon entry into the contest for later auction, 100% of of the proceeds will then be contributed towards assisting the firefighters of the Detroit Fire Department with whatever we can to make their jobs a little safer. Proceeds will be handled through actor/comedian Denis Leary's "Leary Firefighter Foundation" Once all entries are recieved votes will be placed for the top entries on the BURN documentaries facebook page! The top 3 winners will recieve signed/autographed prize packs from the folks at BURN. The next 3 runnerups will recieve small LEGO Sets as a prize for their participation and donations to the charity . The deadline for submitting your entry is OCTOBER 2, 2013. For more information please visit; http://emergencybricks.com/burn Thank you for your time, and I hope maybe one or two of you would be interested in participating to help with a good cause.

    BURN Charity Contest

haha, well as long as it got your attention no?
  6. I'm a paramedic and I can tell you in real life we don't use red crosses on our ambulances or fire trucks. That is a symbol used to denote the Red Cross organization more so than medical help. That pole dancing snake you refer too is (I'm assuming) actually the Caduceus and has been around for a long time and is often used in some variant on medical supplies, vehicles, etc. It's actually a misuse of the Rod of Asclepius but nobody asks questions anymore and plus the wings look cooler. I'd venture to say most people have an idea that it has to do with something medical and its a fairly common symbol. In EMS however, you'll be far more likely to see the Star of Life on the side of any unit than either of the two above along with a play on an ECG/EKG tracing and various other stripings/colors specific to that department for aesthetic purposes. A variant of the Star of Life is also used in the military to denote their medical responders & supplies. As far as EMS goes though, organizations vary tremedously in the US from Fire Department, to 3rd Party/ Muncipal to Private Companies so the usage and symbols you'll see will also vary, the Star of Life is not a requirement to be on any ambulance, at least not an enforced requirement.

    1971 Seagrave Tiller Fire Truck

There are defintiely plenty of 6-wide fire trucks out there, and an entire little community of builders who make em. You can download similar LDD files for builds like this, not this build, but similar at EmBy where this topic creator is also a member :)
  8. They put in Iron Man's helmet but left out his visor? Bit of an oversight there eh?
  9. Is it possible to do a base plane as you did with the wood but with Brushed_Aluminum or a Polished Chrome sort of look? (http://www.povray.or...view/3.6.1/485/) I orginally was looking for asphalt (as I tend to build vehicles) but couldn't find a texture for that but I did see POVray has the aluminum and chrome built in textures. I tried to substiute woods.inc for metals.inc and include the texture { Polished Chrome } but that just caused a crash.
  10. Hello :) And thank you.
  11. These have all been rendered with this tool and turned out really awesome: http://www.flickr.com/photos/emergencybricks/sets/72157632435519721/
  12. Since we got a detailed police officer, I wouldn't mind a detailed firefighter. Gender: Male Occupation/print on torso: Firefighter Type of headgear: Detailed American style fire helmet with shield/brass eagle and bourke eye shields. Type of facial expression: Grimmace / determined look Color on torso/legs: Detailed fire print with SCBA, flashlight, radio, and reflective stripings. Accessory: Detailed SCBA Scott air pack (the lego ones are way off) and a halligan bar or fire axe

Looks like your off to a great start woody, this is exciting :) Here's some decent reference photos of the most common mask out there currently: http://www.dynetechnologies.com/images/firefighter_closeup.gif (Mask on and hooked up to air) http://thumbs.dreamstime.com/thumblarge_610/1307303318pBct92.jpg (stylized drawing) http://i53.tinypic.com/2qsujgk.jpg (the mask only, not hooked up to air)

As far as hats/helmets I think the rescue niche would be fond of a detailed firemens helmet. Both American and Euro styles. Although you said you'd pass I'd figure I'd give some examples of what we're lacking besides helmets: Some thicker tools may be hyrdraulic cutters or spreaders (jaws of life) and the SCBA Air Packs we use which look nothing like what LEGO puts out. Smaller tools you may not even consider that the community has been dying for our the haligan bar (known as irons when married with an axe) and the pike pole And much more lol. Sadly brickarms and brickforge don't seem to have much interest in putting out a Fire Rescue pack or anything, but I think there is definitely money to be made there.

You should consider creating custom fire/ems/police items. There is decent demand for them in the niche communities who want to see better fire helmets, tools, etc.

    Black Widow Minifig MOC

Nice job, I like it. I'm a big Avengers fan too.
  18. No logo on the stud of the head? The heads after all are the most valuable part of the zombies from what I've seen.

    Fake Collectible Minfigures

I'll have to look those up, I'll add in Cobi or other "fake" brands to fill in the holes LEGO doesn't fill from time to time.

    The Avengers Assemble!

I loved the movie, I've seen it 3 or 4 times now, nothing it like the first time of course, but it never loses it's appeal. What I especially love though is the tie in, the Iron Man 1 + 2 Thor, Capt America all tying together the plots which are referenced during this movie. I love the idea of different directors working separately but at the same time together towards a collab like this, and boy did it work. Can't wait to see IM 3, Thor 2, Capt America 2 and maybe even Nick Fury? What I really would like to see is a LEGO: Avengers video game like they did for Pirates, Harry Potter, Indy, etc. I think that'd sell off the shelves in no time!

    War Machine

Very nice indeed, although I would have loved to see T. Howard reprise his role in IM2
  23. Do you take special requests by any chance?

    Assorted Avengers designs!

Very nice work! Combined with my vinyl plotter I should have The Avengers assembled in no time. ("It's what we call ourselves, it's sort of like a team. Earth's mightiest heroes, that type of thing")
