    [ENTRY] Failed Raid (Mini Set)

Yap, saving parts is all that this build is about. I tried using as much of the original idea as possible thus the gray concrete base for the fort. It's quite challenging to make this relatively big build with so few parts. Therefore the bigger the part the better. Besides I prefer the masonry brick to the new plates style. I'm not used to copying the style of the TLG just to make it look more set like. Same goes for the steep sloped shores ... if there's a better way to do it, then change it. But it's my preference anyway.

[ENTRY] Rock Island Refuge (Now Finished)

Love the overall shape, all the hidden details and play features like the hidden chest, the opening in the rocks and so on. Though adding DBG into upper build doesn't help, it's even harder to distinguish rocks from what used to be the fort ...

    [ENTRY] Failed Raid (Mini Set)

Took some time and this is what I could come up with. Easier built then described in detail. With 32 parts this achieves the right height for the arched hole, full fence on top of the tower and integrated ladder holder, but skips the pier, the water and some stairs. The plates for the base exist as one part and also a 1x1 plate and 1x1 plate with clip could be replaced by the 1x2 plate with clip. None of these two parts exist in LDD. This gives you a full 20 parts to distribute among the figures, accessories or some more building, maybe some vegetation ...

[ENTRY] Start small (Mini Set) (new version)

The newer version comes in quite some colors among which white is also an option! But anyway building digitally still gives you an option to introduce existing pieces in new colors. I don't think it is encouraged, but it's not against the rules. I even remember someone asking about it and was approved ...

    [ENTRY] Short Pork Island

Fabulous minifigures, great to see that some time went into making a nice figbarf instead of just reusing some already seen combinations. The islander chief misses something on top of his helmet though.

Still not perfect, but maybe consider this solution?

[ENTRY] - King Kahuka's Outrigger Boat (Mini Set)

What a great set! I am usually not a big fan of brick built things where a similar mold already exists. They usually look too bulky or too square. Somehow this boat is designed really well and it doesn't bother me that it's made of bricks. The design is slick and looks appropriate in size. The only thing that bothers me a bit is the front with the cheese slopes not matching the curve underneath and sticking out rather then being smaller - more pointy. Also in my opinion one of the stronger entries and the turtle is a really nice touch for a change of usual sea life inclusion!

[ENTRY] Rock Island Refuge (Now Finished)

Another remake of this awesome set! I like the brown pier, it also works better in my eyes. All your mentioned changes make sense, though I do miss some black in the building. It's just too gray. Besides Lego never cared for the wet effect, even if you look at Ray the castaway or the PoBB set there is no dark tan to tan transition by the water. Taking this in consideration I think you'd be just fine if all the rockwork was DBG in contrast to the LBG fort. Now it's kind of too molded together and hard to see where the rocks stop and the building continues. Still I'd go with a lot more black in the building. Also the ladder should then be changed to the dark tan one or the older brown one ... Love the work so far and fingers crossed you'll manage it till the deadline!

This might be an option for the figurehead, doesn't take too much space ...

[ENTRY] 1795 Imperial Cannon Remake (Mini Set)

Was just about to write how this set is a good example that shows that not all modern sets need rounded plates for bases nor the newer azure color since blue works just fine! But then I scroll down and I see the update. Not better nor worse in my eyes, I just think it's an unnecessary update. Even the crab was better in yellow to bring in some contrast to red epaulets ... Anyway, as I've suggest before to others, whichever version you decide to be your final, include it in the first post. Since that is the only image the majority of voters will have a look at! Otherwise one of the stronger entries and a very nice remake.

[CONTEST] Return of the Classic Pirates - Vote Counting

I call for a mutiny! Taking the amount of entries in consideration as well as their general high quality I think that the entrants did a very good job. And the least we can do to show them some credit is being able to vote for 5 entries per category! As for the voting for yourself - I know it's a bit of a pirate tradition around here, but I don't see any point in it. Makes for a bit of a disadvantage for the people with common sense! (: Any details on how long the voting phase will last?
  15. I always thought that those yellow things were inflatable arm rings tied together - makes the most sense. As for the entry, I guess if such a set was ever made, it would receive similar feedback as the Star Wars 75334 ...
  16. I think it's much better now. Who would of thought that losing just one color would make such a difference! It might be too white in some places now, though that could be fixed with replacing red with green instead of white. It'd also be nice to match the side windows with the rear one - green frame with black inside. Or at least use a different color for window panes. But I do understand it's a bit too much to expect you to have all the right parts in the right colors when building physically. The gundeck is spacious as well as the cabin which is also nicely furnished and detailed. I really like how you used technic bushes for the smaller wheels on cannons! Only other complaint I might have is that the compass is positioned a bit too low? No idea how realistic that is but LEGO ships used to have them right on top of the wheel, which I got used to ... (:
  17. I am aware of the sails being vintage LEGO sails. What I was trying to say, is that you are using two of these instead of two of these which would better match the main sail in the stripes pattern.
  18. The sails are from a different set and the thickness of the stripes do not match. Making the overall appearance look even more messy ...

    [ENTRY] Failed Raid (Mini Set)

Another nice concept design for the mini category. I agree with the praise of army building potential of this set. It has just what it needs. Nice touch with the 2x8 bricks to gain some parts efficient height. Simple yet effective they say. In this case a bit too simple in my eyes. The main concern being that the pier and the stairs take up some much needed parts to properly finish the fence at the top which is too small. Also the clips and the ladder holder should be better integrated into the build rather than just being put on the top. If you skip the pier and use just a 2x4 tile for the one step I think the fence could be much better. Also the torch could be replaced by a flag to save some more parts. The LDD part count is correct so you're good.

[ENTRY] 6232 Skeleton Crew Remake (Mini set)

I love it! It's simple yet so effective. I really like how the torso selected and the whole minifigure is a great upgraded representation of the original. Very nice head find, definitely better then the LEGO big mustaches in Barracuda set. The build is simple with a more modern parts and does the job. The upgrade with the hidden stash is also a nice touch however I do miss the barrel. Replacing the plates with a 8x8 tan plate would spare you same parts and give you enough room for the barrel in front. Not every modern set has to have rounded plates for bases. Or maybe use the 6x6 rounded plate with two more plates to get the 8x8 area and still have space for the barrel. The torch seems a bit out of the place since it wasn't in the original but these are just some minor suggestions for I have nothing smarter to say (:
  21. Another set remake that looks almost too identical to the original. But on a closer inspection it shows how almost every single piece is very cleverly represented by a more modern version. I really like what you did with the interior and the extra fig fits in there just perfectly. Gives it a more civil vibe with a tavern of a kind rather then just the good old pirates vs soldiers. The hidden area is another nice upgrade and adds a lot to the playability. Also like the design of the boat with the Overwatch gun! An excellent entry though I wouldn't be me if I didn't ask for a brown pier, would I? And the same goes for the mast. Trust me LEGO would have done it back in the day if only they had produced enough plates and bricks in brown by the time. And a fabric sail would benefit the looks of the whole thing as well.

[ENTRY] Start small (Mini Set) (new version)

Somehow the figurehead is still too bulky. There must be an elegant way of doing it with just a few pieces and there was nothing wrong with the skeleton arms in the first place. They looked better than these wooden planks ...

    [ENTRY] Short Pork Island

I guess it might be a bit late for this upgrade, but I'll still mention it - I think that the base should be green to make it a bit more like a jungle. Or at least some more green would be appropriate for the amount of trees ... Otherwise I like your entry. Unfortunately you had to skip some part, but I'm glad, for it looks much more likely you'll make it to the deadline!

[ENTRY] 6273 Rock Island Refuge Remake

Finally someone did a remake of this awesome set! And what a remake it is! It looks absolutely gorgeous and I absolutely love all the small details of this build. The one grudge I hold against the remake of Eldorado is not having a brown pier. Also your remake, though very true to the original, misses some more brown. I'd do most of the wood - the pier, the crane, planks and the bridges in brown and leave the fort black. And the other thing I think could be enhanced a bit is the rockwork. I have no particular suggestions in mind, I just think you tried to recreate the color scheme of the old baseplate too much and now the rockwork misses some life ... Otherwise an awesome entry, great job!

    [ENTRY] 6271 Imperial Flagship Redux

    Wow man, first of all a big kudos to you, for doing this with a physical build. Definitely a lot of plus points for the dedication! As for the color scheme, I think I'd go with white. It nicely connects the figurehead white base with the back white topping on the fence. Brown also looks nice, but then I guess that the white area around the cannons is a bit small and looks out of place! Now you only need to fix the ladders (;
