  1. I have. The panel selection is good, it should be enough for what I need. The model will be black skinned in orange. I didn't choose orange expecting it to be easy :)
  2. I've tried that but there are some extreme Lego collectors in my area that snap those deals up in seconds after they go live. My best luck so far has been bricklink! So far I've found the best deals by ordering from the Netherlands. American dealers charge way more, and there are limited numbers of Canadian sellers that have the volume I want so it's not the great. Amazon has terrible pricing in Canada so I don't even bother. eBay is often risky too with so much fake stuff floating around. Up until recently I wasn't buying small sets either as the limited piece counts didn't interest me. I'm starting to realize I missed a lot of parts in other colours that only seem to come with the smaller sets though. I'll probably buy every set I can find with orange in it so I can bolster the reserve parts. Already have two of he arctic trucks coming, maybe another unimog, plus all the large sets from 2016
  3. I have a decent collection already, I've bought almost every set worth over $50 for the last three years, plus several flagships going back a decade or more. I've been collecting all the flagship sets going back to 2001. My big hurdle right now is that I know I am missing quite a bit of what I need out of my spare parts to build what I want. I need a lot of orange so I'm trying to figure out what I'll need. I have about 50000 pieces currently. I love buying sets, but I'm always tempted to display them which leads me to my current problem. I need specific pieces but I don't know exactly which ones yet. I guess LDD will be a my first bet, as I already have five sets on the way
  4. I had forgotten about that. Now the price makes a lot more sense.
  5. In Canada the crawler crane and helicopter are the same price ($179), and 42050 is $100. The mine loader is "reasonable" at $65. 42052 is only a bit more expensive than what 9396 was here, so it's probably safe to assume the helicopter blades represent a significant amount of the cost of this set. Limited run parts always seem to pad the pricing. The same logic can apply to to 42050, the tumbler wheels are certainly a low production item. Seeing as the only set that uses them is approaching the two year mark its safe to assume they need to make more money on that part to make it worth while. Don't get me wrong, I wish they were cheaper, but I can definitely see why they cost more than usual.
  6. Those tires are almost certainly why the price is what it is. This set would probably be much cheaper if the tires were more commonly used
  7. I'm pretty stoked to see the pricing is the same as what I posted a few weeks ago. I'm going to be stalking my local toys r us for the next few weeks
  8. Until I saw photos of this set I wasn't convinced I wanted it. Now after seeing all the combinations (A+B and tumbler tires!) I am definitely buying two copies. I need orange parts and black treads anyway. The only problem I have with this is that it's going to encourage me to buy many copies of the drag racer just to get enough wheels to play with.

Is it right to refuse to sell a MOC?

Absolutely file a complaint with the police. Even if there is little evidence now, you start the paper trail in case things get more serious.
  10. I do this too, but mostly on black models as they show fingerprints more. I clean my display models once every few weeks too
  11. I see a lot of stuff in here that is common sense kind of stuff, but I definitely have a few manias that don't fit this category. I organize all of my technic parts in trays pretty specifically (like a lot of us do). My bulk bricks however are currently simply sorted by colour in large stackable buckets. My collection isn't as large as others here (only about 500000 pieces) but you can imagine how many parts end up in one container. Every time I build, I dump a bucket on to a bed sheet. Something about the sound of all the bricks tumbling out resonates with me and brings me flashbacks of building as a child. Without fail, I always rake my fingers through the pieces and take great satisfaction in the tactile sensation of the bricks passing through my fingers, and the sound they make tumbling about. I have done this for 30 years, and I can't build without doing this, it's a compulsion. When I'm done, the ritual continues by gathering up the sheet and dumping the bricks back in the bucket, enjoying the same sound all over again. Maybe I'm weird, but it's part of the fun for me

I get that all the time.

Is it right to refuse to sell a MOC?

That's crazy. I had someone ask me to build a custom LED lighting rig for an aquarium. This light required over $1500 in materials, 90+ hours of soldering and assembly, and at least $500 just to ship it. They wanted to pay me $200 and "advertise" my work for me

Is it right to refuse to sell a MOC?

Sariel, I can actually relate to this as it happens to me quite often (on a few other social media platforms). While I'm just an amateur when it comes to lego, I have a bit of a presence when it comes to Aquarium keeping. Every time I post somewhere, I inevitably get many harassing comments from people asking me to build them custom things. Not even providing them instructions, but actually demanding custom creations. In almost every instance people seem to think that because they are willing to pay me something, they feel entitled to it, a "No" simply isn't acceptable. This tends to happen a lot in the US/Canada where the culture is significantly consumer driven. My advice is simply ignore these requests, if you respond to everyone you will only frustrate yourself, and draw attention to someone that will only make it worse.
  15. One of these days Ill post a picture of me testing a system with your videos. While hamsters are cute on computer screens, they can be intimidating if they are projected at 32 feet wide
  16. This review changed my mind about this model. I wasn't convinced initially that I was going to like this (I don't like displaying models that protrude from my shelves), but it looks a lot nicer than I had initially thought based on the prelim images. I might break my normal collecting habits for this model (which will also force me to buy 9396 and start an air vehicle collection)
  17. I came to work 40 minutes early to enjoy these reviews while doing my morning tasks. Couldn't be happier!
  18. This set hasn't interested me at all until I read this review. This set will be on my shelf right away to compliment my 8842 as soon as I can find it!!
  19. I want those lime green wheels. I don't have much in lime green.
  20. I almost purchased this today because I like the wheel / disc combo so much.
  21. While I can see kids enjoying this, I'm not sure I would buy. The flex axles are nice, and it is a decent number of white panels but I think I would get better return out of a larger parts set. Fantastic review though, and your pictures show off this tiny model better than the box art does.
  22. I fear we've wandered off topic, but I'm trying to kill time for a bit longer until Sariel puts his videos up (hopefully)
  23. Victoria only has 344k people, but being the capital of the province helps sometimes. The local TRU has a habit of putting sets out early though, so I wasn't too surprised when I spotted them today.
