Peppermint_M Posted July 8, 2009 Good people of Eurobricks Action Themes Sub Forum. I come to you with a dilema. I was building many improvements to the Volcano Base of Dr Inferno when I hit a roadblock: Too many ideas but not enough concrete plans. I have already improved the front gate but I want to add more. I wanted to have a WMD, a holding cell, space for all the equipment/vehicles, henchmen quarters and barracks for the goons, a med lab, a control center, a helipad, a lava pit, banks of computers, a confrence table and a mecha bay. Countless other minor ideas popped into my head... Essentialy I don't know what to build or where to start. I have been saving parts from my collection and looking a the new sets for "must have" details and additions but apart from that I have no clue what to build. I have rough sketches of some ideas and lots of goons/henchmen. I need assisstance. Put forth a case for any of my ideas or suggest your own. I can scan my sketches on request. Put simply: Help? Batbrick Posted July 8, 2009 Definitely have a small control center with a big red button, it's necessary. You can have the banks of computers in the control room, and it overlooks the lavapit, which will save space. Since everything branches off a control room, I'd do that if I were you, and then behind the control center would be the platform to get to the barrack (which contains equipment, again to save space) and helicopter pad etc. Are you going to make a big missile too? To the Batbrickmobile!
brickzone Posted July 8, 2009 I hadn't seen that front gate - I think it works pretty well. If you really wanted to do something different, you could perhaps use those Sentai Fortress parts for some sort of outpost tower on top of the Volcano (not sure where the gun would go, or what would go atop said tower). Well, when I get around to extending my own Volcano Base, I think the first thing I'll do is go crazy with burps - even if I would have to use dark bley. I've a small amount of spare redbrown bricks that I would put over that - I think I'd not worry about not having more lava (trans orange) or dark brown. I'd use simple black platforms inside, and I have a couple spare girders still. Once I would finish the exterior, I'd then consider what to fill it with depending on the space available. I might actually put the existing Volcano atop some of the new Burp construction, and have some kind of ramp (or not, maybe its only accessible by air) for the main entrance. All of the ideas you mentioned for what to put inside the base sound good - so essentially what I recommend is work on the "shell" first, or the Volcano that is, and then see what scale you can manage with your bricks and how much you can fit in. cole Posted July 8, 2009 I'd add a baseplate under it, with a road surounded by lava. Some jail cells in the back would look good, with some devices for turining people into cyborgs, and a garage for some of the vehicles would be good too.
Raven Brickroft Posted July 8, 2009 As what I said in your other thread: Have you ever seen or played the PC Game "Evil Genius" ? It puts you in the shoes of a "Bond"-ish villain bent on destroying the world. One main aspect of the game is creating and designing your evil lair. It involves creating a lot of rooms and corridors riddled with traps and other things. Try to look into some screenshots of it. Might give some more ideas. I like Batbrick's suggestion too. A central nervous system for all the nefarious operations they'll be conducting. 2 Big screens with minions in front of it. A big table where he could have a conference with every one of his henchmen. Maybe you could also put in a large hangar for the Robot from robot attack. The doctor's escape pod would be in the room where he could escape and then later, board the robot. OOT: MAN~ If only I wasn't spending so much on CASTLE, I really would've picked up AGENTS. fallentomato Posted July 9, 2009 What an awesome topic. I will gladly help you come up with ideas for your evil lair. There are so many different ways you could go. My suggestion would be to focus on the lava / volcano aspect of the lair. There are so many uses for lava, it might be cool to see how Dr. Inferno is harnessing for different aspects of his lair. Obviously expanding on the lava pit is an excellent way to start. Torturing the Agents is definitely a priority for him. But does he also have a thermal power generator to produce all the power needed to run his supercomputers and laser and monorail? What about a giant lava fall that separates his control booth from his dining room (ala The Incredibles)? A lava heated jacuzzi for relaxation? Maybe the hangers and such are in lava tubes? Are the barracks lit bit an eerie orange glow? These are thing you have the pleasure of deciding. Now you've got me thinking about expanding my volcano base... user Posted July 9, 2009 Maybe you'll get Ideas from this topic I made a long time a go in a forum not so far away! I hope you find something you like in there Oky came up with some wonderfully evil ideas! Just to tell you for that topic I was acting as if I was Dr. I for the time being to make it a little more fun!
Peppermint_M Posted July 9, 2009 Thanks for the assisstance My main problem was "To baseplate or not to baseplate" The lave is a cool idea as a running theme (or more like 'lava-lite' after all, no human could hang around that kind of heat for long, cyborgs double the trouble!). I want to add a corner with a missile in and an expanded network of the 'rails' which were already there. I think I have seen evil genius, it was pretty cool, I got some ideas from it. My friend is a bit of a fan of such things so he is always telling me what I should add (he ends up half the problem!) Now, plates or baseplates? I shall figure out some things that I can do which will work well, after your suggestions and also since I have the measurements of the Inferno-Bot I can add in the mecha bay before I start the shell. Capt. Redblade Posted July 9, 2009 Well, I was dissatisfied with the interior of the volcano's center section, so I put together a little pile of computers complete with buttons, levers, and even a flat-screen HD CCTV. Try something like that.
Nodwas Posted July 21, 2009 I've done a small surgery room, complete with shark pre op, a light, and a table with the laser headgear(?) and tools beside it. Now to find a suitable figure to attatch the laser... Also, I've a bricklink order on for the panel with the laser sharks on it, so the shark surgeons can see what to do. Spyder Posted July 21, 2009 I know it's kind of general, but I think you should build a huge hollow volcano, not with BURPS and LURPS, but just with regular brown bricks. You can have a platform at the top holding the laser gun, and the rest of his bas can be actually inside the volcano. As for plates or baseplates, I would use plates, it's just easier. The interior should all be coated with heat resistent metal plating, so that it is inhabitable by humans. Inferno should have a big personal office, with tubes running through it, pumping lava from the core to the top. I would use a couple light bricks to make the lava glow, giving off a really cool effect. You could have a barracks, or separate specialised rooms for each of his minions. For example, Spy Clop's room could be coated with webs and a couple spiders, and Dollar Bill could have gold plating on his wall, with money everywhere. These are all just idea popping into my head right now, hopefully I've been of some help to you.
Emperor Claudius Rome Posted July 21, 2009 A lava-pit with a rope above it. So you may dangle the heros
Peppermint_M Posted July 21, 2009 Well, I'll scan my random sketches at some point, they are a mix of drawn lego elements and pictures of what I would like to achieve, very little colour. I will try and post them to brickshelf then link them here. A lot of your suggestions are there (in part).
Rocketbilly Posted July 21, 2009 I think it would be awesome if you could incorporate some sort of monorail system - perhaps with various different types of platform - like a troop carrier, supply carrier etc. Perhaps a room where Inferno's henchmen can respray and refit captured Agents vehicles? or a cyborg production facility...or a shark tank.....or some tanning beds! Wait....scrap that last one :) Will/Rocketbilly

If you could use light bricks for the office that would look great, And maybe in other places around the base. A lava-pit with a rope above it. The Nightwing Reborn Posted July 22, 2009 All I can think of is a nice little break room with a coffee maker, vending machine, round table with seats, assorted foods, etc. This sounds like a grand project, indeed.
Nodwas Posted July 22, 2009 I'm kinda stuck too, I made a conference room, but it has a large section of bare wall that needs filling.

user Posted July 22, 2009 Awesome! I like the idea of the mecha copter being able to pick up the jail cells and the escape pod looks like it's going to be neat but where will you get enough rock and lava pieces? And I am really interested on how the rocket will turn out! I can't wait to see pics!
fallentomato Posted July 22, 2009 Here are my sketches, hope they are legible. Very cool! I really like the command room and the vertical tower with the rotating laser and the lava pit. I also like the details you put in to show playability features like the hooks on the modular prison cells. Can't wait to see it in brick form!
Peppermint_M Posted July 22, 2009 I am collecting a large amount of brown bricks and burps. Lava will be more trans orange slopes and single stud wide bricks, plus plenty of trans orange cheese slopes. This is my backburner project, so it isn't the highest priority but I am making bits here and there and collecting parts everytime I find brown bricks in my box. Batbrick Posted July 25, 2009 It's more beautiful than I ever imagined! Now make it! My most looked forward to parts are the escape pod, command centre, holding cells, animal cyberisation center, and of course, expansive part for extensive battle with Agents! To the Brickmobile! Peppermint_M Posted July 26, 2009 I have decided to go for a "playmat" option. The features will be brick built off baseplates, with the smaller thin ones at the edge and wider ones for the buildings and to support the large parts of the volcano. The playmat will be a "picture" for the floor, printed roadways and clear concrete areas, volcanic rock and lava. The rivers of lava with bridges will be printed, the lake under the heli-pad will be built. Its an option I liked the look of and will allow for detail where I want it but without having to work out where to put baseplates, I am unsure of the sizes involved, so the empty spaces between the features might not be fillable by baseplates. If it is, then it will all be built, if it isn't i can still have details over thw bare wood of the tabletop.
brickzone Posted July 26, 2009 That sounds like an interesting idea - after all the Medieval Marketplace boxart has the buildings/features arranged atop a picture and it works pretty well. Plus you can probably extend the Lego sections around volcano walls/structures etc. if you have more parts after building the main features.
