As a DC Comics fan, it’s been really sad to see how LEGO has treated the line. We’ve only seen one set this year, and it was a 4+ set, and even before that it felt like they would just throw out Batmobile after Batmobile with any character not named Batman getting next to no attention. I mean Superman hasn’t even appeared in a set for almost five years. We just got a highly marketed movie in Black Adam, and no lego sets were even made for it, despite featuring multiple fan favorite characters that would have made for some killer minifigs.

I get it probably doesn’t make as much as the Marvel sets, but I feel like that has to at least somewhat be because of the lackluster line up of sets. There’s so much potential in sets of the Daily Planet, Fortress of Solitude, Oa, etc. I just feel like the lack of any real news or rumors for any sets coming out next year except maybe a new batcycle set has really sealed its fate in my mind. Does anyone else feel a bit more hopeful, or are most people in agreement that this line is, for all intents and purposes, dead?

It is all about marketing. Was The LEGO Batman Movie a success?

The Lego Movie 2 was a flop

Neither was Mad Hatter.

Deathstroke was already recognisable from more child friendly stuff though. Teen Titans, Teen Titans Go, Young Justice and multiple animated Batman series.

So I honestly think that’s a moot point.

This isn't really any more true for Deathstroke than it is for Mad Hatter.

Well let's all hope MARVEL goes down and fast.

This is not how themes work.

DC is dark. If you are making sets/figs for DC, then you are likely making a character who has done awful things at some point in their comics history (See the Killing Joke, for one). I don't think that is LEGO's first thought with these so much as what is popular/known. That's why Joker is everywhere despite most people knowing him for him blowing up a hospital.

Exactly. Unless the character is almost irrevocably linked to an inappropriate topic- such as Zsasz and his self-inflicted scars- lego's fine putting them in sets.

And a lot of Man and Jonkler sets. As if there were no other characters in the Burtonverse...

Seriously. It's been what, 4-5 years since the last commercially availible Bin?

I don’t see why either or those should stop Lego when we’ve gotten March Harriett (escort), Killer Croc (cannibal), etc. I’d argue the bigger issue is neither one of them has gotten much exposure.

Killer Croc gets away with it because he's a well known villain

Wow, I got excited when I saw the "hot" tag and thought we had some news, but instead it's just ...whatever this is  Can we go back to discussing the actual sets we're getting this year? :laugh_hard:

It's better than this forum being quiet for months due to us starving from lack of dc sets.

Art style and they have said it will continue... animated series...

That's not what it says in the image you sent, but even if it were.

So what? Like what does that have to do with anything? I'm confused.

escort's just not really on the same level as the other two

Escort isn't even an *evil* thing.

March Harriet's crime is less evil than, say, Joker killing Jason, but since "escort" isn't really something you can explain to kids, unlike "joker killed robin", it was more surprising she showed up

I think it's absolutely mental everyone is acting as if Harriet is a mainstream character your average parent would know about.

I think Mad Hatter's just not in sets because he's not very interesting to kids

It's not very interesting to adults either.

On a different note, James Gunn just revealed the new Superman logo (as well as a name change: SUPERMAN).

Given that this is meant to be the (theatrical) beginning of the DCU, and thus hopefully a pseudo-revival of DC in the public eye, I am hopeful that we’ll get a least a couple of sets for it.

Do you want a link?

He also goes to do surf with Batman and sprays ketchup on the outside of the Wayne Manor

Not that long ago you only cared about Batman and couldn't give a damn about other DC characters. Honestly it's best not to get too invested in these things. I am a lifelong DC fan with over 30 years of interest. I collect Silver Age comics as well as a few later ones depending on what characters appear. I also collect Lego DC, having only a few of the original line (I was in my Dark Age then and found out too late), and most of the Super Heroes relaunch. I've managed to get hold of Superboy and Lightning Lad which wasn't easy in the UK at the time. I was there for the absolute peak that was TLBM, and the various Justice League sets before and after. This is without a doubt the most desolate the theme has been for years, but I still look to see what comes next. With any luck Lego will start to reinvest with the arrival of Superman next year, but in the meantime I'll fall back on the source material. Not having any Lego that I wanted meant that I could afford another classic title, so I can't really complain.

It’d be great to get a couple of sets. Hard to say what Lego could give us sets based on without seeing the film, or even a trailer. I’m guessing the Fortress of Solitude will be featured, as well as the Daily Planet. So maybe the Fortress of Solitude with a couple of villains and some of the other superheroes and The Daily Planet on the scale of the 2013 Daily Bugle, or a bit larger, with Jimmy, Lois, Superman, Clark(?), and a couple other supporting characters.

Buildable figure, key chain and 4+ set if we're lucky lol

@legoturtle The shadow box is retiring this year so it is probably not selling well.

I'm just going to put this here, but retirement dates can change quickly or unexpectedly. We are 9 months out from EOY, and this set could get moved to a July retirement suddenly, or pushed to retire in 2030. There is no reason to take any current retirement dates as completely set until closer to 2-3 months until retirement. If someone would have made a post about this 2 months ago, they would have said 75192 Millennium Falcon was retiring this year, and now it supposedly isn't.
