Mister Phes Posted June 16, 2005 Obviously 6235 Buried Treasure is small and seeming insignificant, but without it I might not have given LEGO a second though. The point I've been emphasising in other threads is these small sets are just as important as the larger ones. The kiddies can afford these small sets themselves and get addicted on particular theme. Then when birthday comes around they pester mummy and daddy to buy them the bigger sets in the theme. I thought it only fair to mention this set because of the memories and emotions it stimulates when I look at the picture I posted above.

Mister Phes Posted June 16, 2005 Well that makes perfect sense then! You should have said something earlier! But as I recall it was quite expensive in my neck of the woods so it required some saving (and it going on sale) before I got my first 6260.

You should have said something earlier! But as I recall it was quite expensive in my neck of the woods so it required some saving (and it going on sale) before I got my first 6260. Captain Roger Posted June 17, 2005 you must add in the list imperial trading post
eDeevo Posted June 17, 2005 1. 6235 Buried Treasure Small and simple... But this was the very set that trigger my Pirate obsession... The Pirate exhuming the treasure chest on small island... Small yellow plates represent freshly dug sand and there's a rocky out crop with a plant growing out of it. A monkey clings from the side of the chest. There was an aduntance of accessories. I.e. The flag, coins, harquebus, cutlass. This right combination of elements made my imagation run wild... At the time it just seemed so perfect and since it was only about 3 bucks so I couldn't resist... WOW! mister_phes, we share something in common... that was my first Pirate set as well... & my second... & my third... & my fourth... Story: One Christmas I received four of these. This was due to the fact that I had many relatives that knew I liked LEGO at the time... my parents kept thinking I would like to return all of them (but one) to the store, but I wanted to keep them all... it was the beginning of "army building" for me, and it furthur added to the continuing addiction that would affect me for many, many years... ;) a few weeks later I began buying Pirate sets, but that is the one started it all :-D Ahh... 6235 Buried Treasure... memories... Life is Good.
Mister Phes Posted June 17, 2005 you must add in the list imperial trading post Apart from the Imperial Trading Post, Captain what 4 other pirate sets would you have in your top 5?
Captain Roger Posted June 17, 2005 Imperial trading post skull's eye schooner rock island refuge imperial flagship Eldorado fortress
Norro Posted June 17, 2005 Imperial trading postskull's eye schooner rock island refuge imperial flagship Eldorado fortress We're getting a fairly consistant SES, Rock island refuge, and eldorado... I'm not such a trading post fan because it seems flimsy... I prefer the more defendable MOCs but I'm well aware it's a classic... God Bless, Nathan
Mister Phes Posted June 17, 2005 Yes, I agree about the the Imperial Trading Post being flimsy. Its lacking substantial structures... About a quarter of its pieces goes into making that merchant ship frequently referred to as "The Cutter". I as thinking, as good as it looks, The Imperial Trading Post is no better in design than the recent Knights Kingdom sets...

Mister Phes Posted June 17, 2005 Nah, in all fairness I believe this to be true. The design is not less a combination of specialised pieces (mainly castle walls) and generic piece than Knights Kingdom sets. But what makes the set look better is the simplier colour scheme and its not adorned with all Bionicle pieces!
Captain Roger Posted June 18, 2005 i don't understand why you don't like so much imperial trading post. Imperial trading post can be flimsy but in my opinion. is x1000 better than Eldorado fortresss ITP is bigger, has a larger prison and more cannons than Eldorado fortress. And have a merchant ship and more pirates than ED who has only 2 pirates(Captain Roger and other guy). Only whit ITP you can play a large battle.
Mister Phes Posted June 18, 2005 The Imperial Trading Post doesn't have a prision. At all... Its a trading post... So why would it? One of my dissapointments with the Imperial Trading Post is it only comes with 4 red coats. For a major base in the Imperial Guard theme I was expecting a few more, especially since there's also 4 Pirates! I think Eldorado Fortress got the ratio between Soliders and Pirates right, that being 3:1 Now from a collectors perspective it is of more value for the sets to contain more soliders. The reason being is Pirates are more abundant and therefore do not cost as much to acquire on the second hand market. But when it comes to soldiers the prices tend to go through the roof. So in a set from the Imperial Guard sub theme I'd be expecting significantly more soliders, 1:1 to which was in the Imperial Trading Post. Unless of course you counted the Merchant figure as a Pirate too. Then its 0.8:
Captain Roger Posted June 18, 2005 i thinks is better there are the same number of pirates and soldiers, the battle is more equal. And Imperial trading post has a prison, the hole near the admiral's house is a prison
Mister Phes Posted June 18, 2005 Having the same number of Soldiers and Pirates doesn't make the battle equal if you have other Pirate sets. There are heaps more Pirate sets than there are Solider sets so this results in more Pirate mini-figures. But if you only have the Imperial Trading Post then its about evenly balanced! But I've got nearly all the Pirate sets and I can confirm when added up the number of Pirates outnumbers the solider about 5:1. So that's why it would be good for the Imperial Trading Post to include a few extra soliders. Even up the numbers in the grander scheme of things. I always thought that was a cargo ba, since the crane pick things up from the docks or ships, then it swivels round and lowers them into the cargo bay. Everything is in the right proportion. To me it doesn' t make sense to have a prision in the shipping yard of a Trading Post! Where do all the goods get stored? Not with the prisioners I hope! Captain Roger Posted June 19, 2005 well, i see you think the hole near admiral's house is a gallery of good, aren't you? i always thought there is a prison.
Mister Phes Posted June 19, 2005 I didn't think it made a very good prision myself. But I suppose it could be used as an prision if there was no where else to put the prisioners!
Dreamweb Posted September 24, 2005 In my case everything started with 3 sets I got at the same time: 6245 Harbor Sentry 6251 Pirate Mini Figures 6257 Castaway's Raft 6245 is a great source of parts - a boat, an officer, a rotating platform and a cannon, but the design is poor - I wouldn't want to be in this guy's place when he fires that cannon from the boat. I don't consider it one of the top 5. And my top five would be (in no particular order): 6285 Black Seas Barracuda The best of the big ships and the first one too, probably if it hadn't been released there would be no SES (much, MUCH worse, but still great of course) and no awesome MOC ships - BSB just started it all. One would think that ships released later should be better, after all their designers would have gained some experience, but it wasn't so. A pioneer and a classic. I rate it 9,5 out of 10. 6276 Eldorado Fortress This one's a classic too, has some faults like the lack of ladders or stairs mentioned in another thread. I give it 8,5/10. After just a little customizing is done it can be perfect and reach 10/10. Oh, and it's one of two sets including great Governor Broadside. 6277 Imperial Trading Post I must admit - it's the only one of these sets in question I don't own. But after studying its pictures and instructions I must say it's amazing. The size and the amount of details are striking. I don't own it so no rating this time. But it is possible that if I had one it would be 10/10. 6263 Imperial Outpost The best of the middle sized sets, what I especially like about it is that it has 3 storeys (this time with ladders), which is great for a set of this size. And it was the cheapest way to get Admiral Woodhouse! 9/10 among middle-sized sets. 6257 Castaway's Raft Yes, one of my first three sets so it does have emotional value. It has everything a small set should have - great design and a lot of playability. I also like the number of minifigs - three pirates, plus a shark! 10/10 among small sets. Note that apart from 6277 I only took sets I own into consideration. For example if I had Rock Island Refuge it would probably be on the list. 6277 is just so great it deserved making an exception.
