White brick on red square symbol on lego creator boxes

Maybe just indicating the size of a brick for scale purposes?

Looking at a Creator Set box in front of me, you can see a TM near the brick (it is hard to see in that picture). From the looks of it I would guess it means "trademark".

It is not a trademark. TLC likes to present it as a trademark, but the brick design was ruled out as a trademark in court.

Im pretty sure its just that. All LEGO boxes has bricks or minifigs for size comparison on one side of the boxes these days ( at least all i can recall. )
