Seeing this set where it’s not at an angle and it’s just sitting straight on a shelf, really pronounced how barren and empty the set feels. 5x points or bust.

Edit: I also want to add that DH Umbridge being the head judge during what is clearly the OoTP Trial Scene is wild lol. Really wish that she was in her Wizengamot Robes at the very least.

Mixed feelings on seeing the actual reveal, still feels like too little focus on the actual atrium/offices.  Figures are a mixed bag, some are really nice.  The Mrs Figg hair/hat combo is dreadful...  I'm not too fussed about missing figures from the battle (we've had all of them before many times), but it's a shame there aren't many figures that would have been specific to the Ministry of Magic - Amelia Bones, Dawlish, Aurors, Wizengamot, Fudge, Scrimgeour, even the rumoured goblin!

I like the idea of a layer for department of mysteries and the atrium, and understand the street level layer so that the characters can enter via the toilets - it's a very fun addition.  Also really appreciate that the underground section is the same height as the Gringotts underground section.

Value wise it's not great,  I have a crudely adjusted pence per piece for each D2C set as follows (which allows for inflation, minifig counts, new moulds/fabric pieces and for GWPs).  I understand that plastic has gone up in price more than inflation, but really does feel worth waiting for a discount on this one...

It’s a good set and there’s a lot of cool features but for a collectors edition I expected a little bit more. I mentioned earlier they could have included the brickbuilt fiendfyre dragon for the Voldermort/Dumbledore duel to make it a bit more exciting. They also could have included the door/corridor that leads to the Hall of Prophecies that Harry kept dreaming about, it would have made the underground section a little more interesting IMO. 

The inclusion of the ministry lift is nice but it’s a shame it can’t actually move between floors. I also really like the toilet entry function. Though I’m not sure why they didn’t put the toilet in that empty room next to the station.

The lack of Fudge and Amelia Bones feels a little jarring here since it’s just Dumbledore and Mrs Figg in an empty courtroom!

Something that I didn’t spot in the blurry leaks of the box but are on full view in the promo video are the Ministry memos. They come in colors like canon and have details in what look like stickers – which is a major upgrade from the unadorned white triangles we got in the previous playset. 
 

There’s also a prophecy orb with a printed label on it (presumably identifying it as pertaining to the Dark Lord and (?)Harry Potter)’ – which is another really fun detail to have. 
 

And while Dumbledore and Mrs. Figg leave something to be desired with hair choices, the designers went all out to make the first (and quite possibly only) genuine!Moody a definitive version of the character. His printing is flawless and he even has a brick built staff that properly looks like the movie prop instead of defaulting to the generic pole part they used in the past.

Seeing us get the ministry based around order of the phoenix has really made me want a 12 Grimmauld place D2C.  What do you guys think the odds are of that happening? I just don’t feel the system scale one we got a few years back did it enough justice personally.

I thought that was more likely to be this year to give a lower priced D2C after Hogsmeade similar to the Burrow. While I still want a D2C OOTP/DH 12 Grimmauld Place, I think a playset is more likely. And there would be overlap in mini-figs between these sets with Sirius, Kingsley, and Tonks. If the whispers of a new modular castle are true at a lower price point, then the higher price point play set slot could be used. $160-200 would be a good price point as the original was $135 inflation adjusted.

Lego is also known to follow secondary prices to determine good future sets. Right now 12 Grimmauld Place new goes for $200+. Clearly there is demand.

I think it’s pretty dang likely now that the Ministry of Magic has a Collector’s Edition and its system scale set counterpart sold poorly. Very curious to see how a Ministry that is now $450 and has a terrible PPP ratio performs in comparison. Personally think it will bomb like the Express (I do love that set though despite it not being compatible with other train systems). It’s about as iconic as the Ministry and it appears in just as many books and movies. At least Grimmauld Place sold pretty well and goes for a pretty penny on the aftermarket. Don’t think it will be next year though, I don’t see them putting two later movie D2Cs back to back like that.

Has anyone else noticed the crazy secondary prices the modular castle pieces are going for where retired? At least in the US the boathouse is going for $55 new and the Great Hall $320 new. Even the Owlery is going for $50 new. This as you can still get plenty of sets from the previous modular wave at or below retail for new copies. Add in the playset WWW and it seems something recently changed in the secondary Harry Potter Lego market.

There are two, a non-brick GWP specifically tied to the MoM, and a GWP set that you can also get with other HP purchases. The former is still unknown, the latter rumoured to be a Daily Prophet news stand with a Ministry Munchies stand

Sorry if this is a dumb quesiotn. But i will like to ask. Is the suitcase from Harry Potter CMF series 1 & 2 not shown up in any non-Harry Potter them or only to this theme alone? I tried to see if that suitcase showed up in other theme and it looks like it was not seen since 2020.

The suitcase appeared only twice in the CMF series 1 (Newt Scamander and Jacob Kowalski) and once in CMF series 2 (Fred Weasley).

Yes, i ahve three minifigures from those sereis. And I do wish there would be a plain, non-IP suitcase show up in other theme, such as City, etc. that’s unfortunate.

IMO the HE has a much more positive vibe than the Ministry (more "Fun! We're going to magic school!" than "Evil HQ"). In that way, Grimmauld Place is comparable to the latter. Which is, I think, why they mitigated it for the playset by filling it with Weasleys Doing Fun Things. In that way a D2C version of it might be a sort-of successor to the Burrow. 

Two caveats, though: 1) If the Ministry does poorly (and I think it will, though largely due to pricing and execution, not the subject matter itself) they might shy away from giving us "dark" location D2Cs for a while. 2) The big draw with Grimmauld Place is the "hide" function. They executed it very well in the playset; I'm not sure they could do better or even as well with a larger-scale version. A major complaint about the HE was that too many parts were spent on the train tracks; a major complaint about the Ministry is that too many parts are spent on the street level. Now imagine them doing Grimmauld place with two-thirds of the parts going to the adjoining buildings! And if they leave those off altogether it just won't be the same.
