The new micro Hogwarts Castle was just revealed, and I’m glad it’s not the GWP because it’s not all that exciting to me. Though I can certainly see the appeal to people looking for a more affordable microscale Hogwarts!

Speaking of the GWP, any last minute predictions what it might be? I’m hoping it’s a build for the hall of prophecies because I’ve been wanting that as a set for a very long time, and the sketch of the ministry of magic doesn’t appear to include it (though it’s too difficult to tell for sure). Ideally it would come with the silver trio, but more likely it would come with just Harry or Neville.

I’d also be beyond thrilled with representations of the various rooms Harry and the gang encounter in the book, such as the doors room, the space room, the brain room, or the time turner room, but that seems highly unlikely.

It’s a shame I can’t buy just the underground layer of the ministry set because I’m not too interested in the top two parts (and I don’t want to spend $450), but I’ve always wanted sets that represent the battle of the department of mysteries.

Hopefully all will be revealed soon! Any guesses when we’ll see the GWP and the official Ministry set images?

At the very latest we should have the reveal Aug 15 if last year is any indication. Leaks will likely happen earlier especially if the sketch is now in the wild. I’m firmly back in the Umbridge’s Hogwarts Office GWP now rn. If all the Ministry Office Rooms are open back, I think there actually might be a chance of the book only rooms being included. Two of the 6 would definitely be Arthur’s and Umbridge’s Office. One would likely be either Hall of Prophecy or Wizengamot Court whatever isn’t included next to The Veil. Maybe Fudge’s Office and that leaves two empty rooms which they could do Space, Brain, or Time Room. Would especially would love to see the Brain Room.

Yet another microscale Hogwarts Castle but this time with a giant monster owl carrying a giant monster broom flying over it, no thanks. I assume they're trying to do the forced perspective thing from the Cho polybag but it's not a great attempt IMO. Couldn't they have at least built a Thestral or something to scale? Also that Harry looks both boring and familiar, is it really new and exclusive?

Ministry looks like it should topple over any second. At least Malfoy Manor had those stairs keeping it upright, and the 2021 Hogwars system had space for the figs - here the lowest level doesn't even.

I doubt the GWP will be this Ministry-specific (as in an actual Ministry room), more like vaguely connected - Umbridge's Hogwarts Office might be a possibility. Last I checked there should be a GWP (set) and then another Ministry-specific GWP that's not a set like the Weasley Clock for the Burrow.

Bit annoying that the rumors of the new microscale Hogwarts having an exclusive minifig were false and got us wondering over nothing, but at least that means collectors who already have the previous microscale castles don’t need to fret over getting it. It’s a decent set that holds up well against the previous Disney sets of the same format.

Poor Ron will never get one it seems :snicker:

TBF Ron's in a lot of the more affordable sets (Ford Anglia, Aragog, and so on). And we've had a whopping TWO female polybag characters since 2018 and now get yet another male. It's mostly been Harrys but also Draco, Dumbledore, and Neville. Why not Luna or something for a change so that girls can have some representation too?

Luna never being in a polybag is actually a little shocking given how popular she is. You’d think her plus a baby thestral and a small forbidden forest tree build would have been more popular than the Draco one (although I get why they didn’t do that at the time).

I’m also surprised that we haven’t seen McGonagall yet, since there’s been a Dumbledore one in the past.

Really, there are a lot of characters (irregardless of gender) who would probably be popular in polybags, but Lego hampers themselves by insisting on featuring Harry in every other one – despite Harry being in nearly every set and hands down the one character that anyone who own Harry Potter sets would have multiples of.

At least a Herbology Lesson has the potential to be useful in multiples for people who want to build an expanded class (much like the Cho Chang quidditch one) and the build should be useful enough in multiples as well – which is an upgrade from this year’s Dumbledore’s Office one.

*At least* 14 minifigs – Snape and his doe patronus were notably missing when the East Wing leaked like this. Knockturn Alley was more accurate but there’s no way to know one way or the other until proper pics leak.

Not the most detailed AI sketch I have seen, but can not see any animals. However that do not mean there is no patronus I guess since they tend not to be in every picture, but are more hidden..

I wonder if the GWP might be the Room of Requirement when Dumbledore’s army were using it. Maybe complete with the statue, a fireplace etc.

The idea has occurred to me before, but the problem is that last year’s gwp was the DH resistance hideout version of the RoR – so it would kinda be having the same subject matter for the gwp two years in a row. Not impossible, since they are different, but seems unlikely.

What do you mean by car?

I suppose the cars used in PoA to bring Harry and Weasley from The Burrow to King's Cross. But it's only in the book.

All in all, I'm content with the design (and price).

The only way to include the phone box is to make a full street level since otherwise it would look odd to have a full level just for a the phone box. I do hope the grey piece isn't the magical elevators but rather the banner that gets displayed but based on how its drawn I am guessing its an elevator that can take mini-figs between floors like in the Death Star. 14ish mini-figures is what I expected but no Bellatrix or any Death Eaters would be odd (so hopefully the two unknown maybe are) with the veil scene.

Not going to buy day one because the non-Lego GWPs just don't interest me and so waiting for 2x points is better. Buying the East Wing during Back to Hogwarts instead.

Its the banner.

By the new photo, It has more depth than the sketch had it look like.

The image is what it is, but the street level looks rather crude.

And it confirms a Gambon and Harris Dumbledore mix which is the most egregious short cut since we haven't had a Gambledore mini-figure in too long.

Indeed, it seems that half the work time of designers seems dedicated to cut corner and offer less, making pay more.

But Hogsmeade was already overpriced.

Yeah I just remembered after posting that they did one for the Hogsmede GWP. Only other thing I could think of would be a section of Grimmauld Place - maybe the bedroom with the Black Family tree or something or the kitchen and dining room.

Not sure what to make of the set to be honest. It seems to have some depth to it so it looks like the offices will have plenty of space, plus I could see them including things like the printing press scene in DH1 where Harry sets off the horn.

I don't blame the designers. They are given parameters and most of the time do wonderful things within them.

I know Lego sets a limit on new molds for each set (along with re-colors) and I just assumed the hat piece even as a reused mold would be done. It seems the budget rather went to the new cloth pieces. The banner and I think the veil (seems to be two pieces).

Yes, I agree, as a Harry Potter theme buyer I'm not complaining too much. Designers receive a budget and have to stay within the parameters.

But I was there, in 2020, when for $399 one could buy Diagon Alley, with 5544 pieces :cry2:.

Every time I see new pictures my opinion changes :wacko::wacko:. But I have to say this is imo the worst Harry Potter D2C by a country mile. While the rock border on the bottom is cool there’s no room at all to place minifigs around The Veil so you can have them battling like in the film. The Veil being gold is really odd, it’s not the Mirror of Erised. The top portion is just plain unnecessary imo and it’s a waste of pieces, if this was a $600 set with more pieces to dedicate to the rest of the build I could get behind it. The middle level is by far the best and cleanest section and it’s just an expanded upon version of the system scale set. Unless the middle part has some cool rooms I don’t see myself picking this up at all. Minifig selection is weak especially if they not only do they not include any of the Death Eaters most notably Lucius or Belatrix but no Silver Trio too. But sure we have room for a random goblin and a Deathly Hallows Umbridge who doesn’t appear in the Order of The Phoenix unless she’s in the Wizengamot Robes.

The veil is silver. I honestly don't know what the gold thing is next to it though.

The mini-figures in the set are well designed instead of giving us a lot (like DA did). For a newer collector I am happy to get my first Tonks, Mad-Eye, and Umbridge. But I can see those who have been around awhile won't get too excited.

The image also doesn't show the trio or the goblin, so I think there is more display space behind for mini-figures. Official pictures in a week or two I think will make this look a lot better. I am pretty sure the middle floor extends backwards behind the golden statue as a way of providing counterbalance for the height and so more things might be under that.

Behind the veil and the hall of prophecies, it looks like there's alot of space left were a courtroom could be situated if you look from behind.

In the last Ministry we had 4 offices included where 2 of them had the courtroom (desk) and the prophecies. Now we have what looks like 6 and likely courtroom and prophecies are already in the bottom. What rooms could they have included in those offices?

I’m pretty sure the gold is the frame of The Veil and the rest of it isn’t as visibly gold due to the photo quality. I actually went back to the sketch to check since it’s based on a different image due to the minifigure arrangements and it’s outlined in gold. While I am excited for you and other new collectors that haven’t gotten characters like Tonks and Mad Eye and they are great minifigs, I personally don’t really find them too significant to the Ministry as they make blink and you’ll miss them appearances in the scenes depicted. I know they work there and all but I think for the Ministry where there are so many characters that do show up and unfortunately some would have to be cut (even though with this price and piece count I’d expect pretty much all of the characters who set foot there) they’d maybe be the first two I would personally cut. But everyone’s got their own ideal lineups I guess though I still find this lineup very odd. I do hope official pictures sway me though, this was a set I wanted to see done in the Collector’s Edition format and so far I’m just disappointed.

The overall reception of the microscale Hogwarts seems to be positive but I'm really underwhelmed by it. Maybe it's because I've seen that silhouette in LEGO form so many times. I also think that Harry and Hedwig are a truly uninspired choice. Not only would Dumbledore have been more appropriate IMO, but Dumbledore (maybe in Blue Violet) and Fawkes flying overhead would have been some much-needed pops of colour.

As for the Ministry, it does look more substantial than the sketch but I honestly cannot see it selling well. Frankly I think the playset did the material more justice given the difference in price points. I wonder how hard it would be to moc the playset into something more resembling this (adding a rock base and street level). Yes it would be much smaller but the space here doesn't always seem to be utilized well. I don't see USD 450 worth of stuff here especially given how empty the street and middle levels look.

The black street also doesn't match the cobblestones of the DA at all, nor does it seem to be on baseplates for connectability.

EDIT: It's hard to count but I'd say the entire thing is roughly 32 studs long, and maybe something like 10 studs deep?
