A ship of dreams begins to sail,
Lego bricks tell a daring tale,
Captain Jack, bold and free,
Sets his pirate vessel free.

Sails unfurl, the adventure calls,
Hidden treasures, secret halls,
Brick by brick, the legend grows,
A pirate’s life, in vibrant shows.

Raise the mast, let stories flow,
Captain Sparrow’s world in glow.
A masterpiece for young and old,
Black Sails billow, adventures bold.

Rate the ship and weight it in,
let the fun poll now begin!

The sails are too flat . Remake Black Seas Barracuda did a better job with the sails.

The price of the set ( but that's normal for Lego )

I give it a 9

Remake of Black Seas Barracuda gets a 10 from me:pir-triumph:

It was my comeback set after a long dark age.

Agreed! :steve:

It was also my comeback, and what a glorious comeback it was. :pir-huzzah2:

1. Judging by the pictures, rate the 10365 Captain Jack Sparrow's Pirate Ship out of 10, with 10 being the best and 1 the worst.

I gave it a 6.5, which is perhaps indicative of my lack of ship building knowledge. :pir-grin:

I had to round that up to 7, though.

2. Do you plan to buy the 10365 Captain Jack Sparrow's Pirate Ship?

I'll probably get two. One to build... One to gather dust increase exponentially in value after production ends.

3. What are the biggest flaws of the set? (Multiple choice!)

The minifigure selection.
I'll join the Where's Pintel and Ragetti club?
So what's the play here?  Is The LEGO Group playing the game and intending to release these minifigures in a future set?
Or is a case of... they reached their minifigure quota and decided to omit these two characters because Cotton and Marty are more popular?

The GWP.
To be blunt... I have absolutely no interested in sets which are based on a 3D depictions of a supposedly relevant objects.
I'd much rather a smaller minifigure scale set with a couple of minifigures.
But acknowledge  some fans find these larger sets unaffordable, so that would mean a Gift With Purchase they actually want is also outside their grasp.
So the question raised; is offering GWP that most fans don't particularly want, really adding value to their purchase?
But maybe a more casual buyer, who doesn't have their head shoved firmly up the Classic Themes era, does find a brick-built compass enticing?    Do we have any casual buyers lurking who could provide some insgiht?

No shooting cannons.
Nobody ever died from being shot by a LEGO cannon - or do I stand corrected?
Although, plenty of people  have felt like they were dying after stepping on a LEGO brick barefoot.

That's all I have time for now... but I'll be back later to continue...

Was sort of addressed by the Black Pearl's lead designer.

Now, considering my take on 10365 – a solid 8/10 set. For it to be 10/10 it objectively should've had 2 more minifigs included + some more detailing at the $380/€350 price point or have a said price point lowered to $300-330 area. The lack of some ornamenting, the number of minifigures & the fact 3 of em have reused faceprints, the absence of shooting cannons (which were not included as it'd be a luxury to have 16 shooting cannons in a LEGO set in the first place & they wouldn't fit with the technic mechanism anyway as was explained by Psiaki – having seen the build several times, I'm assuming it's because of their length, as width-wise they'd totally fit on the cannon podiums even with the wheels attached) etc could all be overlooked if the price was right, considering it's a flagship set for a franchise that hasn't really been active for 8 years.

Going by the points highlighted in the poll in no particular order:
1) The sails are fine & a lot more movie-accurate than 4184, anyone wanting to get a better curvature out of em is free to adjust the positions of the yards & bolt joints.
2) The interior of the lower deck, shooting cannons & ornamenting would all be fairly easy to mod in (judging by the speed builds).
3) The rubber rigging looks more realistic & is good to have as long as the structure of the masts is stable in itself.
4) I genuinely don't understand what did people, who wanted Jack the Monkey to be included, expect from TLG: are there any examples of unique monkey molds & prints that were designed specifically for IPs which I'm not aware of? Or did people want DUPLO monkeys to be transferred over with some exclusive printing? I don't think simply including the "default" 2021 monkey would do the trick for many, so what's that about?
5) The naming of the set is virtually a meme at this point, no need to further elaborate (the original naming was supposed to be "Jack Sparrow's Pirate Ship" & it was Mike Psiaki who suggested adding the "Captain" to it – so at least thanks for that, I guess :shrug_confused:).
6) My attitude towards the inclusion of the display stand changed as soon as I realised the "stand" itself is literally only those 2 builds in Reddish Brown, because yes – the entire ship is so well-balanced that it can simply stand on that keel extension/lower hull without the Reddish Brown supports & it's ingenious if you ask me. It could still use some tiling up at the bottom for even better stability, but displaying the ship this way completely elevates an overall perception of its aesthetic.
7) The proportions are generally nice apart from the entrance to the captain's quarters, which is frankly more Marty-scaled than anything – but aside from that it's easily a playscale set with neat play functions included. If anybody's bothered by the hull-to-masts length ratio – lowering the masts is a matter of removing few technic axle connectors, will help a bit with the sails curvature too.
8) GWP is a scalper's nightmare & it's great we didn't get 2 exclusive minifigs locked behind a $400 paywall, the access behind which would not only be limited by the price point of the main attraction itself – but also by the 6-day availability limit & the fact that half the customers simply don't even have em LEGO stores nearby to begin with. Sry some of you, guys, won't get Pintel & Ragetti exclusively with the 10365 and for free while the rest of the planet would have to pay at least $100 of premium on top to get em on the aftermarkets. Jack's Compass GWP tho is nice to have for PotC fans, as there has been a Zizzle Compass, Mega Blocks Compass – and now we finally have the official LEGO Compass.

Again, it's all about the price. For $300 such a set would be a bang, given it's the Black Pearl, which means it'll most likely double in price on the secondhand markets in 2 years post-retirement, and in several years or a decade you'd be sure to add another zero to that for a sealed copy – but for $400+ (which I have no doubt it'll end up costing in the US after all the taxing & in various countries away from Germany/France or those that aren't officially a part of the "LEGO web") there are questions to ask & suddenly 10365 may stop looking allat appealing as a purchase to anyone buying different LEGO sets for a hobby. So as of right now, 10365 is a firm 8/10 for an outstanding build, but overpriced as it's lacking minifigures & detailing for the money asked.

I've seen the discussions brewing & all of those are legit concerns that I've decided to address from a personal perspective, so no trouble :pir-huzzah2: I really think the price is the single biggest problem of this set & is almost $100 too much for 10365 to become a smashing hit. Its design is so good it could've become the first sailing ship in the collections of many, but instead people are just scared off completely by the money TLG asks for it. And I haven't even mentioned the fact that I've already seen a couple of reviews where Will's second faceprint appears to be scratched/poorly printed – imagine facing that problem in a $400 set. That isn't even something from "what could've been" territory, is a real existing defect which people might unfortunately come across after paying quite a hefty sum.

I like it. :pir-thumb:

Thank you @huguberhart for sharing the studio file with us, that was kind of you and it gave me an opportunity to study the build from the inside out and come out with my own feelings about the overall build, and I like it.

The effort is clearly visible and it shows all the way from the nice curvature, to the smart cannon and rudder mechanism. Indeed, the mechanism comes with the price of the interior, but most of us builders are aware of all trade-offs of our craft, it's a gamble which some are willing to take, but it should not be looked at as a flaw, in this particular case, the execution was admirable, just look at how nicely those gun ports open.

It's a daunting task to build yet another Pearl, and live to tell the tale, when there are so many inspiring designs out there to be cross-referenced with, not to mention the real ship from the movies. And yet the design team succeeded to make something new and unique, something different from all other Pearls which sailed over the years through this forum, and that is why I like it. It's original in its own way.

I give it solid 7/10, to elaborate briefly, price is too high, the name of the set is a spectacular miss, and lastly I'm not huge fan of rubber rigging.

Out those three, actually only rubber rigging is design related, and who knows, maybe they wanted to use classic rigging like it the past but were overruled by upper management. The price and the name, and all the blame, should be laid at someone else's door.

Unrelated to this design, I received many love here and elsewhere from the community for my stab at the Pearl, and I feel honored, happy and humbled to be referenced in the discussion, so special words of thanks for you reading this, you motivate me continually to try and do better with each new design. :pir-huzzah2:

I would be more interested in a less expensive play set. The price plus the fact that it's just a display model kinda kills it for me. If it was more like the new barracuda with an actual interior I would have been more into it.

I e filled out the survey and ticked a few boxes for things I not quite sold on, including other, with other being that the capstan is non functional and there's no way of raising and lowering the anchors.

I voted that I will buy it someday. Not a day one purchase.

Sadly that day was yesterday.  I shutted up and Lego took my money :pir-bawling:

The Sega Megadrive controller gwp took me over to buy it at midnight.  My best friend is a Lego fan and a huge retro gamer so I will give this Sega gwp to him for a birthday present. He has a ps1,N64,snes,Megadrive, Saturn and Dreamcast.

So now I am saving money for not buying a specific gift to him.

And therefore there was money available for the overpriced Pearl.

Ofcourse this is an excuse to buy it day 1.:pir_wacko:

I hope my friend will be happy with the present otherwise I bought it for nothing on day one.

This is the second time I bought a set day one. Previous set was Lion Knights castle with Forrest People hide out gwp.

Lego raising their prices....yeah I am part of the problem. Stupid gwp fomo....:pir-murder:

Ah well it was either the Pearl or the Bluebrixx Queen Anne's Revenge.

Sorry, but .

Though I admit I've downloaded the instructions to study the design (mostly for how the aft castle was made), and someday may make my own version of it.

I would like to see the Pearl how she was before she got burned 🔥

When her name was Wicked Wench or something.

So brown hull and white sails. That would be awesome

Fun fact: both 10365 & 10305 were designed by Mike Psiaki :pir-laugh: So perhaps there is a lil more to that pattern

This

This would be amazing! Such a ship I would buy!

I mean, the Black Pearl looks good for an official set and I rated it 8/10, but personally I have zero interest in a black ship :shrug_confused:

Rivendell too. I have bought that set too. But not day one. Waited for double points. And I am not even a true Lord of the Rings fan but I have to admit : it's the most beautiful display set ever made. Now it has become my precioussssss:devil:

So Pintel and Ragetti were excised because "lineup was already too large" and the designers chose tertiary characters over secondary characters.

Got this day one, now back ordered and gwp sold out.

Compass in person is actually close to 1:1 scale and has a functional spinning disk 😬😬.

The moving cannons is my only gripe with this ship, I’m having a hard time because they get stuck halfway and using much force irritates my finger. It’s not as smooth as the videos make out to be. The moving rudder with the wheel removes space for any characters behind it. Masts were a fun build, but I like this 2.0 😬😬

I voted a day one purchase because I have always been a fan of LEGO Pirate ships.  I was extremely disappointed back in the day that Mega Bloks initially had the POTC franchise.  I bought a few of their small sets because I wanted the POTC Figures.  Day one for me coincided with the opening of a brand new LEGO store that is 15 minutes closer to me than the store I had been frequenting.  So I got all the store opening goodies as well as the Sega Controller & Compass.  Looking forward to building the Pearl.  Disappointed in the minifig selection since I'd much prefer having Pintel & Ragetti over a couple of the others.  But I am happy they included Ana Maria.  I've met a few of the actors and others involved in the movie franchise over the years at some events and personally not a fan of one of the actors they chose to make a minifig of based on his demeanor & foul mouth at an event I attended.
