Two very nice minifigs but the hat with hair from the new Eldorado fortress should've been used instead of the yellow hair piece.

I guess this piece is not in production anymore.

Generally I must say, now that it has been officially revealed that the minifigs are in fact Will and Camilla, I even more think that Camilla should have gotten an dedicated leg piece. Plain white does not look good imo.

The new figs are “just” ok, Will’s fig begs for a recoloured bandana piece, I’m sick of the red ones pushed in every pirate set. The torso print looks great.

Camilla’s torso is cool, but I agree with Yperio that her legs should’ve been printed.

I’m hoping to get them both on bricklink

Aye, would love to see the dark green bandana piece again, or some other colour. 

 

When it comes to building an arsenal of pirates, I see any new Pirate minifigure as something to our advantage.

I agree. I love getting more variety for my pirate crews.

Can someone share images of what these two looked like before? They are characters from a comic book back then, correct?

I can see where some might say the minifigures themselves are a little so-so, but my seven-year-old-self is quite excited that Camilla is at long last getting her own minifigure!

I think it looks better than just the hair. Only hair would've been fine if Camilla was wearing some sort of dress like in the comics but the tricorne would look much better with her current uniform.

The minifigure factory now has new alternative colors for the new castle and pirates in the prize machine. I wish they had alternative torso colors because they have a jacket with green stripes would be amazing.

That be fair reasoning lad!

Taking a guess, the designers perhaps chose not use the tricorn hairpiece because it's been used in a few recent female pirate minifigures and they're aiming to keep it fresh:

And that brings us to another question:

Did Camilla need to be redesigned to be more action-orientated?  Or should they have kept to her design more consistent with what had already been established?

I think that the redesign is great. I'm only missing the hat. If they had instead kept her design similar to her appearance in the comic people not familiar with the comic wouldn't understand that she's a Pirates minifig.

That is a good point!

But still, a design based on the comic appearance should still look within the same historic period of pirates...

Yes, that's true. Her dress is period correct but not as easily recognizable as from that era as the Rococo Aristocrat minifig is for example, especially in minifig form. But maybe we'll get a young comic book correct Camilla minifig in the future? Maybe as a CMF? That would be fantastic!
