The 8110 Unimog was basically half the price of this and while it only had 1 motor, it “ made sense” in that set, one motor in this, no RC and the price makes no sense for this set.

199 euros  in 2011 is equivalent in 280 euros in today's money.

42215 cost 400 euros (which would be 300 euros in 2011). Just leaving these numbers here if anyone will find justification for price of 42215.

Well I personally think that TLG is doing us an enormous favour by even allowing mere mortals like us to give them money! They're being so generous and all of you are being terribly rude to our benevolent corporate overlords.

You had me going, until the icon…

End of the day, TLG will design and sell what they want, people will buy what they want. I hope this is not an example of what we can expect as far as set features and prices going forward.

What if I tell you this set is an example of what we can expect as far as set features and prices going forward...

Honestly I'm still hopeful for the future. Something tells me this is not the future of Technic but a (maybe necessary and temporary) setback.

Yeah, by looking at that all in one chassis for RC cars, future looks bright.

The excavator isn't that big. It's rather 42043 Arocs scale

Yes. 42215 is 1:17 scale (comparing the width of the turret).

Arocs is around 1:18.

The Volvo hauler is around 1:21.

They seem to use translation tools and it automatically translates quotes. I've seen that with many users. Anyway, back on topic, from the video the movement of main arm indeed looks quite slow, hope other functions are faster.

Well, i found a much better picture of this set guts. There seems to be a ton of gears. And the flip flop L beam seems to be new in yellow color:).

The yellow beam is already available in the Volvo loader. The loader also has a surprising amount of gears.

@1gor ?

And seems like rechargeable battery is still alive in korean site.

Yes, it was your post, so I use it for pictures...honestly I'm stuck with good old powerfunctions (where sometimes I have to fix cables...)

Yes. Some of my PF cable starting to desolving like old 9V cable.

A bit off-topic took it apart and resolder (anoying indeed) I have hoped that there will be some positive news like physical controler and perhaps shorter motors. Nevertheless Volvo looks good and has some interesting building ideas (based on photos available)

I decided to start making a replica and add my mods.

So far this has:

  • two C+ L motors for drive/steering but I mistakenly mounted the tracks too low, so there will be space for two C+ XL motors once I fix that.
  • it has two mini turntables per wheel for strength though I might change these to planetary hubs
  • it uses 3 of the technic base-plates in black. since I need many mounting holes for the gearbox version of the MOD, I will do the RC version first however.

But I did plan the gearbox, it has 8 clutch rings for the following functions:

  • PTO (for the drill attachment) (one SP small angular motor)
  • attachment pivoting (one M LA, one PU M motor)
  • boom section A (two L LAs. two C+ L motors)
  • Boom section B (one L LA, two C+ L motors)
  • Turntable rotation
  • Cabin elevation (one SP small angular motor)
  • Drive (this may not need the gearbox)
  • Steering  (this may not need the gearbox)

I also used the long tank treads and heavy duty differentials, and lots of girder frames.

The model is modular so far.

So, do we know what kind of turntable this uses? The small gear rack sections or the regular turntable part or something else? I haven't seen any pictures showing this.

I live in Spain, which to be honest, is not exactly the richest country in Europe, but I see more and more people buying lego clones to their kids instead of original legos.

The value just isn't there anymore except for a very few specific sets.

In finland, most of peoples buy lego sets for kids. Because lego alternatives are hard to find in stores. We usually have the bare bones like cobi and mega construx. But when i was kid we only had cobi and cobi was back then so hard to find. And in 2020 and later now mega construx and cobi can be found most of the big stores. But still most kids in here just want legos. And if you want something else than cobi or mega construx. You have to import it from germany most of the times. This is kind of sad to think i really wish we had more choices:/.
