The sets have finally been revealed and oh my gosh I'm in love with each one of them! The minifigures and builds are awesome! The Merry and Baratie are peak!

Huh, I only just learned on s@h that the Going Merry is called the Flying Lamb in German, and by that I mean literally that name, in English  They also renamed Luffy to Ruffy, but that I knew.

I still can’t believe how great of a job they did with these sets!!

As you pointed out, the gum-gum fruit isn't new. But the pear piece is.

And Zeff's beard is way longer than Gimli's

Good news! It is indeed a clip

If you zoom in on the pictures you can see it's not a clip. It's a neck attachment permanently connected to the sword hilt.

Since when does Mihawk wear a cowboy hat? The feather's missing!

Yeah of all molds, Mihawk not getting a special hat is a little odd. In the most expensive set too.

Like the snail, I don’t count it since it also appears in the new Animal Crossing sets ^^

The cowboy hat fits well enough me thinks. Too bad about the feather tho! If Captain Hook’s hat didn’t also have his hair attached, that might have been a good fit

Some more impressions (other than Mihawk's cowboy hat which I'm still not over, especially given that they paywalled him in a EUR 300 set):

75636 Partys Bar: There’s a rowboat which no-one needs and which sort of makes me wish that we’d got the Lord of the Coast fight instead. Makino's unprinted skirt looks really ugly though Shanks is very well done.

75637 Buggy’s Tent: I love the inclusion of part of the tent, the (plot-relevant) cases, the water tank, the spinning wheel, and the cage, as well as four important figs. Granted the top of the tent looks like crap on the inside but that’s LEGO for you, and the cage seems bigger than the spinning wheel which again, that’s LEGO for you. (Zoro has to fit on the spinning wheel spread-eagled while the smaller Nami has to fit into the cage only while crouching, but of course minifigs can’t exactly crouch or spread their arms and legs.) I still don't like Zoro's smirk and the inclusion of the entirely empty seating is kind of comical if you know the scene - you'd really need to fill it with villagers wearing terrified expressions. Still, I'd say it's the best set overall.

75638 Arlong Park: This set really, really needed both Zoro and Sanji. Their exclusion makes no sense plot-wise and five minifigs is just too little even though I think they're all exclusive. Plus the pagoda has a „smash“ feature but no upper floors and barely any interior at all.

75639 Going Merry: Again, this is the cheapest way to get all five of the East Blue Crew, and it's EUR 130. Not cool, LEGO.

75640 Baratie: First of all Nami has the wrong outfit, at least the top part of it – on the show she does wear the orange skirt again but with a different, pink top both in the restaurant and bar scenes and during the duel the next day. The same for Luffy and I think they could even have done his green dungarees and red shirt combo with existing parts. I really, really like the inclusion of Mihawk’s raft, though, and Mihawk – hawk eyes and all – apart from the hat. Speaking of, Zeff looks fine but I’d have preferred him either with his striped shirt or in his whites but with the oversized chef’s hat. Some of the lifestyle pics are spot-on (like Zoro sitting in the bar tipping a bottle to see if there's anything left in it) and others are completely nonsensical (like Garp playing lookout from the top deck and Helmeppo lounging on a lawn chair while supposedly on duty). The angle of both the box art and some of the lifestyle pics also does the set no favours because it makes it look almost as paper-thin as Malfoy Manor.

The Swashbuckler/ Musketeer hat has a slot for a feather, it could make for a decent upgrade. I'm guessing they'd have used that part themselves if they had it so it must be out of print, a shame.

That‘s the piece I immediately thought of, but it hasn‘t been used in ages. The last time it showed up was in CMF S12 in 2014 :shrug_oh_well:

Big fan of OP so naturally a big fan of this!! I think they nailed what was presented in the live action show, and even made it so that fans of the manga / anime could enjoy it too.
Does irk me a bit that the sets are being made based on the netflix show instead of the far superior anime, but maybe this leaves the door open to seeing those down the line.

These look nice, other than relying heavily on stickers. The boat has six 2x2 round tiles with the same sticker repeated which is insane. There is no reason those couldn't be prints. Hell, looking at the anime design, I think those curves in the ship could have been built with bricks/tiles anyway.

I didn't expect to have any interest in the One Piece sets, but the Going Merry will make a fine merchant ship for my Black Seas Barracuda to raid. I might even get it with a GWP instead of waiting a year or two for a 20% discount.

I was just saying this in the historical forum but I think Zeff's hair and moustache oats might be in the new Ochre Yellow colour.

I doubt that‘s the way they‘re thinking. After all, the snail piece might have been developped with the den den mushi in mind, but they simultaneously appear in the new Animal Crossing sets as well :shrug_oh_well:

Read Den Den Mushi as Dungeons Meshi at first. Now there's another Anime Lego should cover.

I was actually inspired by news that we were getting sets to watch the LA and those den den mushi snail phones are creepy megablockers. I found the anime on BBC iPlayer and started it the day before the sets revealed . ( This won't be the first time that I've gotten into something because Lego made a theme of it !!!)

My thoughts exactly. A designer recently said the new colour was gonna be only used for hairpieces and animals at the moment, and I haven‘t spotted any other hairpieces in that colour yet!

Same. One Piece marks the fourth time I got into something thanks to LEGO acquiring the license, the previous three being Harry Potter (first contact was through a teaser in a LEGO magazine in early 2001), The Lord of the Rings (seen the movies multiple times before the theme came out, but it increased my interest significantly), and Ghostbusters. Not a theme, but Hocus Pocus was similar in that I finally watched (and enjoyed) the movie thanks to the Ideas set!

I would guess if you are a fan of the franchise, and you would want to have the figures, this is the set you would want to display it anyways, though. And 130€ is quite a reasonable price nowadays, they could have easlily made it a 200€+ Set.

As someone who only watched a few episodes of the anime, and didn´t watch the netflix series at all, I have no idea how Iconic the other Scenes are - the ship is at least the only thing I did recognize, but I guess at least the baratie should be a more iconic scene too. But eitherway, for me personally it would make more sense to buy the the big set and get the ship together with the crew, rather than buying 2-3 smaller Sets together with locations I don´t care as much about.

If you're just starting the anime you're in for a long ride! It's a fantastic show, but pace yourself. It starts getting absolutely fantastic once you get to the Sky Island arc. But the arcs before that are necessary for plot and character development.

The Baratie is an interesting choice for a flagship set (pun intended). It's not more important than other locations in the anime or the LA. The best location would have been Loguetown, but that wasn't in the LA.

Wanting five figs doesn't necessarily mean having the budget or room for a EUR 130 ship. Plus a pirate ship doesn't really fit in with my other stuff, I'd prefer to have just the figs and build a cute little port scene with them. But thank you, LEGO, for telling me how to display them and how much to spend on them, I guess?

I haven’t watched the anime or Netflix show yet, but these sets look pretty great regardless! Solid looking builds, an abundance of cool minifigures and new moulds, fantastic packaging art, I love it when Lego throws their all into new themes like this.

Time to both sell your sofa and riot then.

It is an intimidating number of episodes (and from someone who's favourite show is over 60 years old and ongoing ( well with several breaks)) but I won't be skipping any, I don't really understand why people skip episodes, I mean on rewatch it makes sense, but on first watch I mean.
