@Mister Phes, I'm not saying I disagree or that I don't want new cloth sails, just that we shouldn't set ourselves up for disappointment, since the winning entry doesn't use them.

But it wouldn't be the first time Lego upgrades an ideas submission by a lot...

LEGO Pirate fans tend to have outrageously high expectations so no matter which design The LEGO Group arrives at, some fans will never be pleased.

However, in terms of general consumers, particularly those who don't regularly buy LEGO, it may harm product sales if the design is too far removed from the movie.

Imagine this scenario:

Billy learns a LEGO set based on the ship from The Goonies will be released in the future.

Billy isn't an AFOL who regularly buys LEGO, but he has lots of warm fuzzy memories of watching The Goonie as a kid.

When he learns of the upcoming release, he doesn't even remember that the ship isn't actually wrecked so he's really excited by the news.

This will be a  sporadic LEGO purchase for Billy - the first LEGO set he's purchased as an adult.

Naturally this excitement inspires him to watch The Goonie again after many years.

Uh oh!  The ship he sees on screen is vastly different to the upcoming release.

Obviously it's normal for LEGO sets to deviate from their source of inspiration, but how far can they deviate before Billy begins thinking;

"Is this even he same ship? I'd prefer the ship I see in the movie.  I guess this isn't really what I want."

And then Billy decides not to purchase the set because a shipwreck is conceptually different to a ship hidden a cave which can still sail.

Like I said to @Dreamweb, think Barracuda Bay...  A shipwreck island concept was submitted to LEGO Ideas and we got both that and a modern Black Seas Barracuda update.

So there are definitely possibilities for this Goonies set...

Just came across an interview with the designer of the IDEAS Goonies ship. He also talks about Pirates and that he maybe can suggest Lego to design a new hat piece for one of the characters.

Anyone else excited about the Big Gooney ship coming out???

Wait, I didn't know that's happening! It'll be a pass for me, due to size and price, but I love Goonies, and I hope we will get some elements that can be used for a Pirate setting :)

I will have to see how detailed it is, might turn it into a hideout for my pirates maybe

If it's anything like @Sebeus I's Moc, I'll buy it for sure !

:pir_laugh2: Thank you. Thanks to @Legostone I managed to complete it when I did. Otherwise It might have taken another year before I started and perhaps the Goonies set might have discouraged me go take on this subject then.

I like Mister Phes' suggestion of a Baracuda Bay concept, that could actually work well. If not that, I doubt we'll see anything close to a sea worthy ship.

I wonder if the hat will be repurposed or if this is it. It feels a bit small, but it could also be the angle.

The hat is small, but is put on the wrong character, I guess it'd look fine on Sloth as he was the one wearing it in the movie.

The set has leaked on Reddit. It gives me Indiana Jones vibes with a journey sequence through it, and while there is more space, it seems like there are fewer mechanisms. The side of the ship looks pretty blocky, which might be expected given that it's hiding a cave, but it's nicer than having a horrible/inconsistent back. Might add a lot to the cost though. It also doesn't look you'd make it into a real ship either.

Figures look great.

Have to say that it's bringing back huge nostalgia, and I will be so excited to share this movie with my kids when they're old enough.

It's definitely on my buy list. I really like it.

Hmmm, the pirate ship side actually looks a lot better than the Ideas submission, but the caverns aren't as neat. I'm a little torn there, but it's always nice to see a LEGO pirate ship set. Also kudos to them for doing the One Eyed Willy minifigure and the new Sloth hat mold.

Just realized that with the Enterprise set we'll probably be getting two LEGO Datas back to back this year. 😄

OMG!! I can't see the dimensions in the photo :(

Looks like it says 36cm/14 inches tall by 63cm/ 24.5 inches long.

As someone who has never seen The Goonies I cannot fully appreciate this set, only the Pirates aspect. With a few alterations this would look good as a shipwreck on rocks. Seems that at least two torsos serve a good potential for new characters. I wonder what the other side of the build looks like, what little we can see from the actual hull of the ship is good, but it would be a real treat to have an entire facade on the other side. :pir-thumb:

There are two pics out there, and you can see the other side of the ship on the back of the box ^^

Is this the first set where what‘s usually the open back is advertised as the front? I mean it definitely makes more sense to display it this way :classic:

Love the minifigs and the build looks cool too with all of the booby traps! Gotta watch the movie again, haven‘t seen it in like 25 years

Ah, I missed it the first time. We seem to have a fine galleon on our hands, though the hull seems a tad static.
