Don’t know if this has been mentioned in this thread but a dark purple Classic Spaceman has appeared in a promotional set, DS2023

I’m aware that it’s already possible to assemble a dark purple CS astronaut from existing parts - I have a couple - but this is the first to appear by design.

Wow, that's pretty cool.  Thanks for sharing, I'd like to get my hands on one of those sets!

Probably very hard to get a hold of and if any are available, likely extremely expensive. Supply and demand, right?

I'm just thinking (hoping) that at least one 2024 set will have a purple spaceman figure, OR maybe there will be one in the collectible minifig series.  Too many teasers on the purple spaceman: first the video from Lego showing a person dressed as a purple spaceman, now they include one in this employee set.  Obviously Lego can do whatever they want with production, but seems unlikely they produced just a few dozen or few hundred (do we know how many?) purple spacemen just for this set.  Given the orange and brown spacemen produced in recent years, and then the 10497 Galaxy Explorer, I feel like they are just building demand.  At least we can hope that's what they are doing. :classic:

What video?
Regarding teasers, however, the purple Spaceman is buildable with existing parts (albeit illegally, since the snailien’s torso needs its arms and hands swapped for purple), so I am not sure that LEGO is hinting at anything necessarily.

The 2020 Lego Christmas holiday ad.  The purple spaceman is at the 38 second mark.

Agree you can make the purple spaceman from parts, but as Jay's Brick Blog points out, with DS2023, Lego has now officially produced a purple Lego spaceman.  They certainly could just produced a few hundred, or however many were needed for the sets, but I still feel this set and the theme of the conference points to something good in 2023...

It is not impossible, but wouldn´t it make more sense in retro sets to get retro spacemen colours aswell? As for the Space CMF series, it kinda is more likely to see him there than in the set, however, the question would be if we wouldn´t get an completely new colour then?

That Video is 3 years old, so I wouldn´t take that as a hint for anything - but looking at the minifigures, all other colours do actually exist. So I am wondering if they already had the plan to make it avaiable through the alien in the CMF there?

All good points.  However, with DS2023, it's clear Lego has "officially" made a complete purple spaceman.  I think the question is, was that a one time, very small run for DS2023, or is the minifig going to have a general release in 2024?

Agree the video is old, from 2020.  BUT, at that time the brown spaceman had not been released, while clearly being shown in the video.  We had to wait until this year to get that color.  In my opinion, Lego will release a purple spaceman minifig, I think it's just a matter of when.

Instructions for DS2023 have been reverse-engineered and are free on Rebrickable

And here are the official ones!
This also canonises the designers’ designations of red and white as pilots and explorers, respectively.

Very, very cool.  Thanks for posting those links!

As 2023 is getting closer to its wrap-up, I’m quite excited about these Space sets and that second CMF Series!

the black spacecraft still has me curious…

Probably not getting any of those.  I'm still anxiously waiting to see if Lego is going to release something in the "classic space" genre next year.  I know a lot of people are expecting some type of "re-imagined" Blacktron set, but I'll be a bit disappointed if that's all we get, since I'm not really "into" Blacktron.  On the other hand, if it's a Futuron set, that could be interesting for me.  Mostly, I'm hoping for a re-make of one of the "command bases" to compliment 10497.

When the purple oxygen tanks came back in stock at pick-a-brick, I ordered parts to make five purple spacemen and then picked up 5 of the space aliens to get the torso with space logo, so don't have a big need for Lego to make a set with the purple spaceman any more, but I'm still thinking we'll get something in the CS line in the space themed CMF series later in 2024.

Speaking of CS spacemen, so far Lego has re-issued them in white, red, and yellow.  Does anyone think we'll get re-issues of blue (without the scratched off space logo Benny has) or the elusive black?  Theoretically, there are a lot more "new" colors they could do: purple, gray, and then all of the various shades of "standard" colors.

Hm, according to New Elementary the mini-doll space helmet doesn't fit regular figs after all. A bit of a shame, but I suppose that will make it fit mini-dolls slightly better than it would if it had to be designed for both types of figs.

I would like to know what is this "classic space style"? BECAUSE that amazing Galaxy Explorer was 90 anniversary set. If we are unlucky we don't get that quality very often. Disney/Lightyear XL-15 spaceship is very nice, one of my all time favourite, but quite small. Star Wars spaceships take so much from other space related sets...

So I would like to be positive for 2024 that we get something similar than those 2. I still think that this "Space" year / theme is just something very extraordinary for us who love space. It feels like whole new wave. I don't mind at all that those Friends helmets does not fit. I think it is a good news. MAYBE year 2024 is the best lego year for decades... 20-30 sets which are must buy!

Now that all the official photos are out I can say that I really like this new wave of sets.

LEGO goes further than with the 2022 sets, this time with a more futuristic tone while staying realistic. We still stick to the scientific approach but the introduction of aliens tilts the balance towards the space sci-fi universe.

I only regret that they are so friendly. I hope that in the future LEGO will release a 100% sci-fi theme with a much more threatening alien presence and the integration of weapons, a la Starship Troopers (I missed the different space sub-themes focused on this approach).

Well if you think movies like Prometheus and Alien: Covenant... then aliens are hostile. BUT when you think movies like Interstellar and The Martian, I would say that the focus is more in science. Star Trek used to be more investigating things than for example Star Wars. It is actually nice that we are getting this sub theme which seems to focus: mining and research. It is about new energy resources.

BUT maybe in the future they discover another planet where aliens are hostile and they need a whole crew of different characters. For example like in Prometheus. Could there be some kind of history. Statues, treasure, technology... hidden in caves or somewhere.

At the moment I want to be realistic and that's why I hope these sets sell well. After that we could see something even more sci-fi. Factions, aliens, who knows what.

I'm pretty sure I want to go for 60430 Interstellar Spaceship, especially now that I know it's only $19.99 (I was expecting $29.99)! Other than that I want to hold off and see what the rest of the year brings before I commit too much of my budget to the first wave. I'm very intrigued by whatever the rumored black spaceship turns out to be.

Ok, good to hear. I try to buy all of those sets. (I don't wait "black spaceship" because we don't know anything about it. It might not come 2024). Even "Space" Minifigure collection is unsure. What it is and so on...

Also there's another "licensed" space icons set, which probably means something NASA, with 10266: NASA Apollo 11 Lunar Lander retiring soon.

Could be something like a larger scale Artemis Rocket (Saturn V scale), seeing how that set was popular enough to be re-released from Ideas to Icons, and the Discovery Shuttle is still sold in 2024, and Technic has a NASA Mars Rover.
