Did they sell well among fans of those music artists? There's a strong chance that I would not buy it if I were a fan of Pharrell. My brother likes Star Wars but hasn't bought any Star Wars sets. Right, but the other music collaborations that they’ve done (to my recollection it’s those two plus the Rolling Stones) are much, much more well-known. Even though none of the artists I mentioned are as relevant today as they were 40-50 years ago, you can still get basically any piece of licensed merchandise with them on it, whereas I don’t see the same for Pharrell Williams. Plus, those sets were very displayable - either a mural of one of the artists, which is super recognizable as Elvis or Paul McCartney or whomever, or the Rolling Stones logo, which is also super recognizable. If you were to have this set on display, it’s not really recognizable as something tied into Pharrell. I’m withholding judgement on this set until it’s released, but it just seems very odd. Quote

The music is great. But this feels like it will be a really dull experience between all the songs! Honestly, those minifigures without studs on top are creeping me out. It just looks so ugly to me, I don´t think I could watch a full movie of that, really. Quote

Fenghuang0296 Posted June 8, 2024 Posted June 8, 2024 That set looks like a great parts pack to get on clearance, and I can probably find something fun to do with a giant rainbow pillar or use those clouds to decorate my buildings. And that many fleshie minifig heads in different colours will be great for my city. . . Pharrell Williams? Meh. If they’d made literally a playset of Atlantis Apartments, something I could put in my city like the BTS Dynamite set, I’d be hyped for that, but . . who thought this was a good idea? Quote

Black Falcon Posted June 8, 2024 Posted June 8, 2024 Would need big discounts to make it worth it to me. Don´t really have any use for the heads or the stream. Quote
JesseNight Posted June 8, 2024 Posted June 8, 2024 12 hours ago, eric_son_of_joseph said: Why would this matter to you? Because it's obviously not very appealing to the Lego Space audience, so the Pharrell fanbase or people who like the movie are the best they got to approach with this set (aside from those wanting unique pieces from it). And it wouldn't be weird that a fan would love something to look familiar and connected to their idol. It feels a bit like they're just missing the appeal to all potential audiences, but that's something the movie will have to clear up. Quote

But it's rather obvious that a Space lover expects something different from a $100 set than a small basic ship and a lot of extras that aren't space related. I'm not saying that makes it a bad set. Time will tell how it ends up selling and how people who bought it and built it feel about it. Quote

You would be concerned with what others don’t like, they don’t buy, and how useless the set is then? Good to know! Now serious…. Yeah, I fond some cool parts from that Pharrell Williams set, such as rainbow trail and that golden cockpit. I rather not buy that set but will get some parts for PAB or Bricklink so I could them use them. I understand that some space fans don’t feel appealed to that set bt we don’t know how well this will be sold until its release date. Queer Eye was released a few yers ago then it had some discount some times later. It had me wondered why it went that way. Anyways, Space fans only speak for themselves (I’m not a Space fan myself, I’m jst a general in-house fan). Quote

Digitalsound1 Posted June 10, 2024 Posted June 10, 2024 I saw Lego was posting some Classic Space stuff on their Instagram page: https://www.instagram.com/p/C6JZU0dLC6l/ There are a few links like this one. Does anyone think Lego is hinting that we will be getting more Classic Space sets soon? They hinted Classic Space a few times on their Instagram page. Quote

I would love to get more Space sets but I don’t think they are hinting we will get more. Just like they did wih Modular Buidling “teaser” last year and fans thought it would be it was AssemblySquare 2.0 but we ended up getting Natural History Museum. Maybe that post doesn’t mean anything. I will be happy to be wrong becuase I still wish we get more space sets. Quote

Space78 Posted June 10, 2024 Posted June 10, 2024 Right, but they did bring back space. It's the major theme this year with sets across multiple lines. I don't think those Instagram "hints" are for new CS sets, but rather the space theme. We just got the latest US Lego paper catalog in the mail. The cover and the first half of the catalog is all space themed sets. They seem to be really pushing space as THE theme this year, including anything remotely related to space. But there is not even a hint of anything remotely CS in that catalog. Quote

I do think that it is interesting that the ads (with the exception of the timeline one) do not feature any of the currently-available sets, though - If they are advertising the current Space megatheme, then why do those sets not appear in the ads? Inspecter Posted June 11, 2024 Posted June 11, 2024 I hope we get more classic space sets, heck would be nice if those sets had the Classic Spaceman colors that didn't win the vote! Quote
Kit Figsto Posted June 12, 2024 Posted June 12, 2024 I definitely think that LEGO will continue to revisit classic themes/classic sets in either reimagined ways (like the Eldorado Fortress or Blacktron Cruiser) or in a more original way (like the Lion Knight's Castle or Galaxy Explorer), but I think it remains to be seen if they'll expand on them or keep sort of doing what they're doing now (1-2 sets per year and then 1-2 retro GWP per year). Clearly they're going for an adult market with them, as they're all higher priced and many of them don't contain as many play features as a modern City or Ninjago set would, and they all seem to be doing well (the only one that I recall being on discount was the Galaxy Explorer at Walmart, but that seemed like an exception, since no other retailer really had it on sale), but I don't think it's likely that we get a full expansion into retro themes being totally revived. The only way that would happen, in my opinion, is something like the 2009 Space Police III or something like Power Miners/Pharaoh's Quest being a spiritual successor to Rock Raiders/Adventurers - not a true reboot, but takes a similar concept and modernizes it. They did stuff like place helmets in some $250 or $300 sets so people can complete their space figures. 3 hours ago, Kit Figsto said: I definitely think that LEGO will continue to revisit classic themes/classic sets in either reimagined ways (like the Eldorado Fortress or Blacktron Cruiser) or in a more original way (like the Lion Knight's Castle or Galaxy Explorer), but I think it remains to be seen if they'll expand on them or keep sort of doing what they're doing now (1-2 sets per year and then 1-2 retro GWP per year). I agree. Although I think as far as large sets go, they will probably look at fan favorites. I think the 1987 Monorail is probably second to the Galaxy Explorer. I wouldn't be surprised if they release it eventually, but it will probably be a display piece that you can put on a shelf rather than a playset like the original. I saw two or three recent images of it on Lego's Instagram page. Quote

A static monorail goes against the coolness of the original model, though! Maybe a sort of shell can be built around the small roller coaster pieces to allow a large monorail model to still be able to move on the tracks? 🤔 Quote

Gonna be hard to bring back the Monorail without a completely new Monorail system... therefore probably making it less interesting as a business, unless they can use a new rail system that's already being used in modern sets. I think it would be a bit pointless to make a Monorail train not be a playset... and don't forget, the Galaxy Explorer was in fact both a playset and a display piece, extending further on what the original had to offer.
