Was the set a sales failure? How do we know?

We do not know, I might sell decent however if it was a bestseller it most likely would would not retire 2(?) years before it was suppose to originally :def_shrug:

Maybe if it's a Lego exclusive sett like LKC :sceptic: Not that I think LKC had a low budget with a new part, lots of prints and lots of retired parts brought back. An ideal Castle set have lots of new printed parts (like minifigs, shields, barding etc), generous amounts of minifigs and animals (recolours) and new parts like animals, weapon’s etc, which is hard to make on a low budget:shrug_oh_well:

I do not think the designers is much to blame, if we have gotten something close to the leaked picture most fans would probably be very happy, but the set was butchered budget-wise and we ended up with MTS in its current form.

While the set certainly has plenty of flaws, I cannot help but feel the leak really hurt it - people saw what it could be and latched onto that. And in many cases expecting it would retail for the same price as the released version, which I find doubtful.

Retired early and with big discounts in many places. Both aren't usually a sign of a set going strong. I wonder how it would do if they skipped the modularity gimmick in favour of opening up like the LKC and improved some parts of the design accordingly...

While "sales failure" could be considered relative given Lego's current profits, the fact that it was on sale for less than 18 months, was retired 2 years early, and still discounted prior to retirement, all suggests that sales were significantly less than expected.

I see, thanks!

I  think that the Viking Village demonstrates that you can have a "premium"-looking historic set while staying vaguely affordable, by good design and efficient use of pieces. It was on sale for £100 at one point in the UK, and could potentially be reduced further as it approaches retirement.

Definitely, however even if we did not have that leak 8 minifigures, basically 1 animal and 1 new shield is not much for a set with 3304 parts when we compare it to 10193 Medieval Market Village and 7189 Mill Village Raid.

  • 7189 Mill Village Raid had 6 minifigures, 7 animals (most of them new or unique), 2 shields and 663 parts
  • 10193 Medieval Market Village had 8 minifigures, 3 animals, 0 shield and 1601 parts

I agree, but as I have said it would probably be better if the set cost more and included more stuff the fans want from a set like that e.g. 50$ more would have been fine:shrug_oh_well:

I finally get the set, after a long decision making, wheter I like it or not. I just started building it yesterday and I have just built the first 3 in 1 house. So far, I can say that there is a lot of wasted potential which is sacrificed due to the budget. I generally like it so far, and more so in person. But it will require massive enhancement using my own parts to finish the buildings, and make them mor cohessive.

Overall, it would be better to offer the set as a series of single house units with their respective inhabitants and microbuilds and some foliage rather then compress it into one lacking set.

If they had it in sale in the UK, I’d consider getting another copy. I wouldn’t mind playing around with it to make the buildings feel a bit more complete, via a bricks and pieces order or two

Only ever saw it on sale in smyths for £160 once. Perhaps Black Friday.

They have not seen the set for a couple of weeks in the Lego house shop and since it was a outgoing set the guy I asked was not sure they would get more stock.

Luckily the employee shop had it so I could buy it as planned

And this is just one shop, but if people like me have been waiting to get it, maybe not wait until x-mas eve to get it is all I am saying

Its on sale on the Lego.com, 20% off, I assume they will sell the rest of their stock now..

I have the feeling this set didn't perform as well as Lego hoped.

No, but hopefully decent enough that we get another one in 2027:shrug_oh_well:

Stickers turned off a lot of people?

It was several things, we wanted the prelim that leaked and instead we got a low budget version instead, with fewer minifigs, a lot of stickers and almost no animals. If they are giving us 1 castle set every 3 years then it should be something like the LKC with a decent budget..

You call €230 a low-budget set, Roebuck?

I like to think of the positive side: the goat returned. Our beloved rogue faction returned. 5-6 new medieval torso prints for the afficiado's. And last but not least, a nice extension to the medieval market village.

It is also 20% off at £160 in the UK, but even at that price I'm leaving it. I got goats from the CMF series, superior Wolfpack figures from the CMF series, I picked up a few torsos online and I have plenty of bricks already. It almost went in the cart, but £160 feels like the price it should have been. Even with an apparently good ppp ratio for parts in colours I.often use.

The price do not say anything about the budget, compare it to 7189 Mill Village Raid that is a proper high budget set and it cost a lot less.
We would probably not have gotten the goat back if it where not for this set, but it needed the help of the CMF to pull it of. If it had a higher budget it could have done that and maybe included a goat kid as well (in addition to a lot more animals)...

Maybe? I never bought this set because of damn stickers but it doesn’t means that it turns off a lot of people in general.

Ah yes, I see what you mean now.
Not that I agree though.

I think that it is a great set for what it is. It could be better, sure. But its a great parts pack and great companion to the LKC and MF… Its easy to mod, easy to expand, it brings nice new prints on figs, and the stickers are minor in comparison to the licensed sets (HP, Marvel, Star Wars, LOTR…).

I’m glad you like this set a lot and I appreciate your helpful tips. However, I am not good at MODing due to my severely low vision.. Other that, I do agree with you that there are some cool new parts, minifigures and their accessories. It’s great to see a goat’s comeback.  I just don’t like stickers - it’s a big minus for me, even tho the builds look great. If i remember, there is a printed sign  for inn somewhere?

And a wolfpack member with no wolfpack shield. Unfinished roofs on the left building. It's like they ran out of bricks and budget. The leaked prelim looked so much better:shrug_confused:

He returned in budget form without the iconic wolfpack shield.

Funny how the castle theme is so "in demand" and BDP9 has castles left and right, yet MTS is rotting in one corner. Hope Lego learned its lesson in price gouging.
