strangely Posted July 21 Posted July 21 The first minifigure just leaked from this set, Augustus Gloop. Interestingly, the design matches the 1971 version of the character, so I think it's safe to say the set will be based around that movie. Quote

I think that was a foregone conclusion with the project specifically being based on that version, it being more liked overall, and WB pushing it way more than the Burton re-adaptation (see the recent prequel and cartoon cross-overs) I still need to watch it since I’ve only seen the Burton version (which I’m very fond of personally) and 2023’s Wonka ^^ While I also would’ve liked a set based on the Burton film, I can easily see why they went with the 70s movie. Can’t wait to see the other minifigs (particularly Wonka) and of course the build itself! Quote

The design of the minifigures and build in the ideas pitch took inspiration from both movies as well as the broadway show. Quote

Yes, but Wonka and the Oompa-loompas are clearly based on the 1971 version, and I doubt deliberately mixing elements from multiple adaptations was ever in the cards Quote

Wonka is a hybrid, he has Gene Wilders hair color, but the green pants worn by book/broadway Wonka. And the build is more Burton inspired. I agree we weren't going to get mixed versions, but it definitely wasn't a guarantee it would be the 71 version. It does make me wonder how much the build will change since it's primarily based on the Burton version. It would be cool to see them take out the bridge and add in the boat. Quote

I hope we get the boat, so then we can recreate the tunnel scene where the other actors thought Gene Wilder had genuinely lost his mind: 'There's no earthly way of knowing Which direction we are going There's no knowing where we're rowing Or which way the river's flowing Is it raining? Is it snowing? Is a hurricane a-blowing? Not a speck of light is showing So the danger must be growing Are the fires of Hell a-glowing? Is the grisly reaper mowing? Yes, the danger must be growing For the rowers keep on rowing And they're certainly not showing Any signs that they are slowing!' Quote
Jarreth2 Posted August 13 Posted August 13 (edited) The boat seems to be included, you can see the canopy in one of the pics in the usual places 😁 EDIT : Wonder if the boat might be a GWP for the set ?? Edited August 14 by Jarreth2 Additional info Quote

Shiva Posted August 21 Posted August 21 Official release too https://www.lego.com/product/willy-wonka-the-chocolate-factory-21360 I think it looks better than the ideas version. Quote
Jarreth2 Posted August 22 Posted August 22 @Shiva I'm inclined to agree with you .. as much as the original idea was good, I much prefer this. The original was a bit disjointed to me, the Oompa Loompas didnt fit as they were from the original movie and the kids and the base / scenery was from the Depp version. The Depp version was ok, but I'm a 70's kid and I prefer the original, I might pick this up when there's a double points event on perhaps. Quote
Robert8 Posted August 23 Posted August 23 The Oompa Loompas totally needed a new hairpiece though. That one doesnt cut it Quote
