The Star Wars Glossary

My Padawans, its time our subforum has a decent SW glossary. I decided to make a quite simple one referencing the most commonly used acronyms. Fell free to contribute and post what you think is missing and I will add what I think is necessary for our perfect understanding of the SW Universe. May the Force be with us !!

A

AAT: Armored Assault Tank
Assault tanks forming the frontline of Trade Federation armored infantry divisions. (set n7155)

ANH: A New Hope (Ep4-1977)

ARC: Advanced Reconnaisance Commando
Aggressive Reconnaisance starfighter, depends on whether you're referring to ARC troopers or the ARC 170 (set n7259)

AOTC: Attack of the Clones (Ep2-2002)

AT-AP: All Terrain Attack Pod
This two-legged model, dubbed the pod attack walker, featured artillery cannons and a third retractable leg used for stability during long-range weapons firing. (set n)

AT-AT: All Terrain Armoured Transport
Four-legged transport and combat vehicle used by the Imperial ground forces. (set n4483)

AT-OP: All Terrain Open Transport
Open-bed cargo walkers.

AT-PT: All Terrain Personal Transport

AT-RT: All Terrain Recon Transport
Anti-infantry unit. Designed primarily as a reconnaissance vehicle, this two-legged open-cockpit walker is nonetheless swift and heavily armed (set n7250)

AT-ST: All Terrain Scout Transport
The two-legged craft, dubbed the scout walker by many, serves as a reconnaisance and patrol vehicle, often flanking approaching AT-ATs and mopping up infantry that sneaks past the larger walkers. (set n7127, 7657)

AT-TE: All Terrain Tactical Enforcer
An intimidating armored assault vehicle, the AT-TE saw its explosive debut on the battlefields of Geonosis, at the start of the Clone Wars. (set n4482)

B

BD: Battle Droid
Regular Trade Federation infantry. Droids with specialized functions have distinct colored markings on their armor. Blue denotes pilot droids. Red denotes security droids. Yellow denotes command droids, which function with increased autonomy compared to the standard infantry.

C

CIS: Confederacy of Independent Systems
Confederacy led by Count Dooku during the Clone Wars

CTT: Clone Turbo Tank
Huge armored tank operating on Kashyyyk (set n7261)

CW: Clone Wars
Animated TV series that chronicles the Clone Wars between the Galactic Republic under chancellor Palpatine and the CIS under Count Dooku. Chronologically, the series takes place during the 3 year time period between AOTC and ROTS. The TV series comprises 25 chapters (from 2003 to 2005) and a 3D CGI will debut in 2008. (set n)

D

DS: Death Star (DSII - Death Star II by extension)
Code name of an unspeakably powerful and horrific weapon developed by the Empire. The immense space station carried a weapon capable of destroying entire planets. The Death Star was to be an instrument of terror, meant to cow treasonous worlds with the threat of annihilation.X (set n10143)

DV: Darth Vader

E

ESB: The Empire Strikes Back (Ep5-1980)

EU: Expanded Universe

F

FU: Force Unleash
Video game taking place between ROTS and ANH in which the player assumes the role of DV’s secret apprentice to explore the galaxy to destroy the remaining Jedi. (set n)

G

GM: Grand Moff

I

ILC: Imperial Landing Craft
For transport of Stormtroopers detachments, the Empire employed a landing vessel based on the tri-foil design of the Lambda-class shuttle. (set n7659)

ISD: Imperial Star Destroyer
The Star Destroyer is recognized as the signature vessel of the Imperial fleet. (set n10030, 6211)

J

JSF: Jedi Starefighter
Small wedge-shaped one-man starfighters, these vessels were used by the Jedi order in the waning days of the Galactic Republic (ep2 set n7143). A newer model emerged (ep3 set n7256, 7283, 7661). This new model was much more compact, cutting away a large portion of the forward spaceframe to have a forked front, bracketing a bulbous cockpit pod.

L

LAAT/i: Low Altitude Assault Transport/infantry
Proper name of the RGS

LUL: Light-Up Lighsaber
A new feature introduced by TLC with the first wave of ROTS sets but abandonned right after due to heavy production costs (set n7261, 7257, 7260, 7263)

M

MTT: Multi Troop Transport
Armored giant capable of disgorging over a hundred Battle Droids soldiers into the thick of combat. (set n7184, 7662)

O

OT: Original Trilogy
The Original Star Wars Trilogy comprises A new Hope (ANH-Ep4), The Empire Strikes Back (ESB-Ep5) and Return of the Jedi (ROTJ-Ep6)

P

PT: Prequel Trilogy
The Prequel Star Wars Trilogy comprises The Phantom Menace (TPM-Ep1), Attack of the Clones (AOTC-Ep2) and Revenge of the Sith (ROTS-Ep3)

R

RGS: Republic Attack Gunship (Republic GunShip)
Properly called the LAAT/i, the RGS is a rugged, combat-equipped repulsorcraft. Each winged gunship was covered in weapons, offering air-to-ground and air-to-air support as well as serving as an infantry transport. (set n7163)

ROTJ: Return of the Jedi (Ep6-1983)

ROTS: Revenge of the Sith (Ep3-2005)

S

SBD: Super Battle Droid
Bulkier, stronger, and more advanced version of the standard mechanical soldier.

SSD: Super Star Destroyer
One of the largest, most powerful Imperial vessels ever created. It follows the same basic dagger-shaped design of the Imperial-class Star Destroyers, but magnified to much larger scale. A smooth hull presents an arrowhead shaped profiled when viewed from above.

SW: Star Wars

T

TIE: Twin Ion Engine
Bursting from Imperial hangar bays in gnat-like clouds are the standard starfighters of the Imperial arsenal, the TIE starfighter. The single-seater short-range vessel lacks a hyperdrive, and as such requires deployment from launch bases and capital ships.

TPM: The Phantom Menace (Ep1-1999)

U

UCS: Ultimate Collector Series

May this glossary be usefull to us and lets make it evolve  ;-)

Gloss On !!

First, Yoda, yeah sorry, I know I was meant to do this. Been very busy. However, I'll gladly contribue with  some corrections:

ARC: Aggressive Recon
Advanced Reconnaisance Commando OR
Aggressive ReConnaisance starfighter, depends on whether you're referring to ARC troopers or the ARC 170.

LUL: Light-Up Lighsaber
Don't we normally use "LULS"

RGS: Republic Attack Gunship
Republic GunShip. Properly called the LAAT/i - Low Altitude something something / infantry

This will seem really pedantic, but...

It's not "LAAT/I", its "LAAT/i", phonetically "larty"

There's also LAAT/c, or Low Altitude Assault Transport/cargo. It's a bigger version of the RGS, and I think it was seen in EP2 carrying an AT-TE...
True happiness: looking inside the box to see a perfectly flat instruction manual.

Quick update for 2008 sets:

AT-PTset no: 7671

SI - Sith infiltrator

A fittingly fearsome vessel for its deadly pilot, the Sith Infiltrator is the personal starship of Darth Maul, Dark Lord of the Sith. Maul used the sleek ship to silently travel wherever his master, Darth Sidious, ordered. Set no 7151, 7663

RS - Rouge shadow

Darth Vaders apprentice personal ship piloted by a imperial officer called Juno eclipse. Looks like a cross  between Anakins Jedi StarFighter in Episode III and Vaders Advanced Tie from Episode IV. Set no 7664

and some other non abrieviated things:

Hailfire droids

A self-aware mobile missile-platform used exclusively by the InterGalactic Banking Clan, hailfire droids delivered surface-to-surface and surface-to-air strikes with their stacked banks of 30 rocket warheads. Hailfires roll along on oversized hoop-like wheels. Set no 4481, 7670

You forgot the Porax 38 Utapaun Fighter, Sith Infiltrator, Low Altitude Assault Transport/cargo, and The Trade Federation. ;-)
Acronyms as follows: P-38 or UF, SI, LAAT/c, and TTF

General Tarful

EDIT: I forgot the TX-130S Fighter Tank or Saber Class Tank (SCT), the name was changed to IFT-X Fighter Tank after The Clone Wars.

EDIT #2: I also forgot the Droid Gunship (DGS), Venator Class Star Destoyer (VCSD) or its common name Republic Atttack Cruiser (RAC), and the Unstable Terrain Artillery Transport (UT-AT) it's also called the Trident because of its 3 forward weapons. Gee I'm very fogetful today. X-D

Oh, also Yoda the proper acronym for All Terrain Open Transport is AT-OT not AT-OP. :-P  ;-)

Just send them here  X-D

One thing though. There is 2 Fs, and no G  ;-)

Otherwise,  *y*

Now, if you're going to be pedantic, that should read "There are 2 Fs, and no Gs" or "There are 2 Fs, but no G" X-D
