  1. My phase 3 for the Gate category of AoM. I hope this is sufficient for the title :D I had fun making this, because I did not plan anything, and just looked how it would turn out. The building has some interiors, but the bad part of not planning, is that I couldn't really make pictures of the inside :P Im quite happy with how it turned out, especially with the stonework. I need to work on the roofing though, yet thanks for the guide SK :P I spent most of my salary on lego this month, but maybe I should go for a suitable camera one time. One way, I feel the money used for a camera could have been spent for bricks, but the pictures will probably improve a lot :) Usually I edit the photos with photoshop, but due to me quitting my studies, I do not have the license to use it anymore. Im starting an IT study this year, so I might get the licenses at discount :D Gatehouse phase 3, AoM by David de Rijke, on Flickr
  2. Over the years, the small arms stall eventually evolved into a full-fledged forge and store. Gungnir's Point. After many winters of selling arms and protection, Bjorn Hamarmund put his time into learning the trade, to forge the weapons he sells, ensuring quality in every slit, stab, and slice. Gungnir's point was established. I have built multiple slight variations of Gungnir's Point, in order to give an idea of the evolution of the shop. Please don't mind the mess in a couple of the photos. I also wanted to showcase the Mitgardian tribesmen who have allied themselves with Ulfraut. C&C very much welcome, my friends.
  3. A build set a few months after the Algus were routed from Mitgardia. The Algus are defeated and some parts of Mitgardia are beginning to thaw out, much to the delight of the local wildlife. My entry for the natural beauty category of the summer joust. I would like to claim the UoP credits for: Landscape design, snow and ice trees (technique 1/3), and Brick built animals 1/3
  4. Mitgardia5rs_140616 by Gabriel Thomson, on Flickr] Runa Hoskuldottir spoke the words of leaving with care and reverence, asking the gods and the ancestors to bless the journey they were about to embark upon. The man by her side stood silent, but he made the offerings at the right time, as she had instructed him, the coins of passage falling into the sacred bowl in a pattern that promised fair winds. The ritual over, she turned to look at him, smiling. “Well Erland, we shall have no trouble until we reach the mainland at least. A good start.” Erland lifted his careworn face to meet her eyes. “Perhaps I am the trouble on the road. I know your father doesn’t approve of our betrothal, and how can I blame him? He knows next to nothing of me, and I cannot remember enough to quell his fears. Perhaps Sigurd was right and they should have left me to be claimed by the waves, at least that way your family would not be deprived of you in this hour!” Runa snorted impatience. It was one of the things he loved about her, how little patience she had for his doubt and self-pity. “Don’t talk nonsense, betrothed. Do you think I could remain deceived about your true nature after months of nursing you back to health? You are a good man, I know it, and when we find your family, you will know it again too. As for Sigurd and Bjarke, they are superstitious fools to think that you are ill-omened just because they lost their best fishhook the day they found you floating in the wreckage of that ship. The gods are not responsible for their carelessness!” Erland smiled. “Well, perhaps it shall be as you say. But we certainly won’t have fair winds to the mainland unless we move soon, no matter what the gods say. Is Olaf ready to go?” Runa reached down to stroke the stocky grey cat at her feet. “Come then Olaf! I have packed a snack for you on the boat.” He miowed in response and trotted down the steps toward the jetty, with the couple following close behind him. To be continued… So i hope this will become a bit of a multi-build storyline... it started mainly cause i realised just how little of Historica i'd built in, and i wanted a reason to roam about a bit. I'd never built in Mitgardia before now either, so i just had to kick things off there. But i do want to build more in Peregrinus as well (which has been woefully neglected by me), so the story might become slow going! 5. This is a gatehouse situated on the norther outskirts of Odinshire (Odinshire is what I have decided to name the village Lord Clutchski rules over) and serves as a guarded entrance to the village and first line of defense. Here, we see an archer standing watch and a knight leaving for a routine patrol to find lost travelers, or unwanted guests. sorry about the fuzzy picture that's also an attachment, I have been having some weird problems wit the URL pictures. it says that "you are not allowed to use that image extension in this community." even though I have done the exact same thing before. Weird. https://1drv.ms/i/s!Ag1BfaoqmAZShixnY7M0ej_A2J8l this should work better.
  6. The third module of a large collab build that Isaac and I are building for Brickfair, Virginia. First module, second module. We’ll be posting one new module a week. The harbor-master’s house and tower both have full interiors. The tower is only one half of the gatehouse, which is why the arch has nothing on top of it. The harbor-master’s house sits in the corner of the Nordheim Docks, and all incoming traffic is registered there. The winter lull gives the harbor-master plenty of time to catch up on his records, inside his cozy home. I would like to claim UoP credits for: General Building: Interior Design Lots more pictures on Brickbuilt All C&C much appreciated
  7. Book III is coming to an end, and that means we all will have to make a choice. For some of us, this will be obvious, but for me... I'll show you what I mean: VS CC is very welcome, and please let me know wich one you favour. A special thanks to SK and InnovaLUG for hosting the Summer Joust, in wich I will also enter the vignette category with these two. Thanks for watching, see you next time!
  8. See the previous tales: Wyndor's Saga: Chapter 1 -What Has Past- Chapter 2 -What Has Past- Chapter 3 The Green Dragon Inn Bustle at Treacleheim At the Gates of Budd-apest Dragon-Forged Blade in Treacleheim Charlemagne's Residence Wyndor, Charlemagne, and the rest of their party made their way up a trail in the Rakath Mountains. After Charlemagne had come back from Ulandus, he had kept some of their dragons around. He hoped one of them would be willing to help Wyndor. These particular dragons were trained to be comfortable around humans and other humanoids. But they were still dragons and as such could not be made to do anything they didn’t want to do. Thankfully these dragons were pretty clear about whether they liked a person or not and after showing their approval became very loyal. Charlemagne was explaining all of this to Wyndor and Valenice as they came to the dragon grounds. Wyndor spied one particular dragon that just seemed to call to him. He started to approach the beast and immediately the dragon came up to him. There was obviously a connection and Wyndor knew this was just the answer he needed to take on the Algus threat and allow him to return to Mitgardia. He and Valanice climbed onto the dragon’s back. “I imagine we’ll be able to get back home faster than the horse rides it took to get us here” said Valanice. “Yes, hopefully we won’t be too late!” responded Wyndor. Looking down at Charlemagne he asked, “How can we ever repay you?” “Just be ready to return the favor if ever we need it” answered Charlemagne. And with that the dragon began beating his wings and took off to carry his passengers back to Dalig Ulv. As Charlemagne, Hildegard, Morpheus and Balthazar watched them fade into the distance, a huge shadowed loomed up behind them… OoC: Please note that this build was simply put together to help act as pictures for the transition in the story. It's a lot of recycled parts and is very plain. Sometimes I find I need to do that to get over a mental block so I can keep building and telling the parts of the story that come more naturally to me. The dragon was built for the next part of the story that will be coming soon.
  9. An improved version of my ice dragon model from December last year. This one is stronger, using mixed joints and the wings are further forward. In my opinion it look a lot better then the original one, which can be seen here- https://www.flickr.c...ve/23381215452/ . This was part of my display for the Sydney Brick Show (16th & 17th of April).
  10. Sometimes it's just plain hard to be a frozen beyonder... especially when you're on spy duty or something... They really have no idea why, but somehow their approach is always noticed and the're spotted... Oh well, there are some problems involved in carrying winter around in your back pocket! Nevertheless, Uridius is quite unconcerned (he's always unconcerned, for that matter!) Finally got the interior to this thing finished! This is my Category A entry to the Frozen Beyond contest, and was (minus the interior) an entry to CCCXIII's large miscellaneous - and yes, I know it doesn't stand much of a chance in that quarter, but it didn't fit anywhere else! Credit goes to SK for the awesome bridge design, thanks for viewing, C&C are always welcome!
  11. So here is the first of some incoming builds. I wanted to create a wooden wall without pallisade bricks, I think I succeeded. (Quite partsconsuming though :) ) This was the first time I ever touched those 3-leave plants, I just ordered them and never had them before, so I had to try how to work with them. (apparently they are much more flexible than I imagined) The trumpet is gonna pop up a lot, I play it myself so I love that brick. It is also my first real shot on an irregular base, I think it turned out fine, but it could have been much smoother. I actually want to create my own settlement, im working on a story for it right now, this will be included too. (I know, the 4 categories for a hamlet all need to be fullfilled, lots of work to do :D) Wall0-2 by David de Rijke, on Flickr Wall0-1 by David de Rijke, on Flickr Wall0-3 by David de Rijke, on Flickr Wall0-4 by David de Rijke, on Flickr Wall0-5 by David de Rijke, on Flickr (and this is where I use yellow rounds for)
  12. Another fearsome creature from the Frozen Beyond! Inspired by - well, let's see if anyone can guess! Top view: This was quite some fun to build, thanks for viewing, C&C are welcome!
  13. (Please note, this is a story focused on two of Aeldric's new rangers, and takes place after Aeldric finds Dar Askelohn and is made captain of the rangers of Albion) Next Chapter: Coming Soon Genic (The Human in the brown hood) and Cathras (The Redhead Elf) had just been recruited by Aeldric and assigned a task to head north to Mitgardia to investigate the potential threat of the Algus. On their way, they passed a small ranger set-up. A small bit of scaffolding was strewn about, most likely for higher positions and better points of view on the roads. Aeldric had issued for several of these camps to be dotted across the roads of Avalonia for the denizen's safety. Aeldric had also begun to recruit many races, other than originally human. From elves, to even dwarves. Though, Aeldric was cautious about which dwarves he recruited, as some of them can be a bit to friendly... Without figs: Back of the scaffolding: --- Anyways, let me know what you think! C & C welcome, and remember, this story takes places after Aeldric has found Dar Askelohn, and is named captain of the rangers of Albion.
  14. A border outpost is one of the first defenses a village can have. High enough to view a large area around the village, the lookouts in the outpost are able to keep an eye on goings-on. If the need arises, a messenger can quickly travel from the outpost to the village to warn the people of danger. Near Falkidalr, an outpost is constructed as a preliminary defense. Built on log stilts, the outpost towers above nearby hills and forests. A thatched roof reinforced with leather-covered decorative shields covers the top to keep out snow and rain. To accommodate the watchmen, a tent is provided for sleeping and a fire with a pot and tripod is provided for cooking food. A fence surrounds the base camp to provide a barrier to the native fauna and flora. Weapons and armor are kept on a rack in case of need. Now, the village of Falkidalr will not be easily surprised by any invading danger. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thanks for viewing! Comments and Constructive Criticism are appreciated. The inspiration for this build came from AoM, but the inspiring ideas were the SNOTed logs and the leaf pieces hanging on the grass stems. The tripod over the fire proved to be challenging, but I liked the results. -Slegengr
  15. I realized it is 1st of may today. Do not expect too much here, this is an older build collab with my 10y/o brother, I tried some building techniques here (walls that are a half stud deeper, orange wall/ 'toilet') and was left with too little time and bricks to finish it, But I brought my minifigs and prepared this castle for a quick story before the due date :D I just agreed at the homefront that I'll need a better camera and that I will make a lego studio somewhere. My next build will be small and detailed instead of big and too little bricks:) I tried to edit these pictures but I fail with photoshop :) So, enough self-negativity and I hope you like the story progressing :D Oh by the way, I finally purchased some flags in the ríght colors (green/yellow), so now I can show my own allegiance as well. Part one Swearing Allegiance Bull's Eye Fortress After the arrival of the strangers, it was done with the quiet in the Bull's Eye. 'My king, the men are not happy with your decision. They don't trust these strangers, and some are preaching to revolt.' With these words Davok disturbed Ryban in his private room. Ryban stood there, gazing to his weapons hanging on the wall, where first the picture of his wife shined, before she disappeared. They looked outside, and indeed, it seemed like the assembled men grew angry. Some abused the fact they had to muster to speak to all the Bulls at once. Then, suddenly, the guards all blew their trumpets. A band of warriors was sighted, heading to the fortress. They carried Kaliphlin banners. The envoy from Nocturnus saw them, and they headed to the gate, shouting that these men came for them, and thus they would deal with them. While his guard prepared his axe, the envoy seemed like he was channeling something. Flames seemed to grew from his hands, and from the inside of the walls sounded yells, both terrifying and enthousiastic shouts. Then he put his hands together, and a beam of flames was aimed towards the attackers, creating a fiery zone before their feet. None of them was burned, nonetheless. They turned around and started to run, apparently it was not that good an idea to invade this fortress. Loud cheers sounded from the battlements, as the Bulls saw they could trust these strangers. Davok realized that all of the invaders had seemed quite northern, none of them had a tan colored skin. Also, the envoy said he knew the attackers even before he could see in that direction. Something seemed wrong here, somehow he had the idea there was something going on... Post was too large, More pictures:
  16. Phase 2 of the Age of Mitgardia Challenge. https://www.flickr.c...N06/26372864330 Can anyone help me with inserting it as an image? Space for attachments is used up, and the forum doesn't seem to like the use of Flickr links. Thanks.
  17. In the south of Mitgardia lays a small castle called Sudheim Keep. It's design is based on Nordheim Keep, but altough it's brother is build for, Sudheim Keep is build for peace. It is there, that Drondil signs a pact with three of the mightiest powers of Mitgardia, and even Historica. Tonight, Daydelon, Thorshaven and Drondil sign a pact to change Historica's history! Again, inspired by Soccerkid6 (I know, it's kinda becoming a habit. I should probably put it in my signature ). It's based on one of his older castles, while the name refers to the best castle ever build. These angled roofs were a real pain in the megablocks, but I hope you like it! CC very appreciated!
  18. The Bay of Seals. An inhospitable body of water even in the midst of summer. In the early weeks of spring, it is a positively murderous expanse of icy blue. It was not a particularly inviting place to come ashore, but it was not dusk of the second day since the Blanchefleur had foundered east of the Bay of Seals. The wind had driven hard from the north, and rather than fight against it to reach the mouth of the Bearclaw River and the port of Nordheim, the castaway had rowed south, coming ashore in an inlet on the east bank of Gronnfjord, the westernmost tributary of the Bay. The ground was hard rock - sheltered for the most part from the weather by the steep sides of the fjord, there was little sand on the beach, merely a rugged slope of gray stone, broken somewhat by small plants, and no doubt exposed by whatever cataclysm had cut the Gronnfjord into the into the land. A chilly, damp wind, bearing with it an icy tinge of the bay, swept up as the lone, weary traveler laid the oars on the rowing bench and climbed stiffly out onto dry land. He lifted a wooden staff from the bottom of the boat. It was taller than he, completely smooth and straight save for a large knot at one end. He settled the staff in his left elbow as he pulled his cloak tighter around himself and pulled down his weather-beaten hat. He reached back under the cloak and checked the position of several items strapped to his back, then stood erect and looked around him. The failing light of the sun revealed a path, not perhaps comfortable but at least safe, winding its way up the side of the fjord. Gripping the staff in his gloved right hand, the traveler climbed the beach, leaving the rowboat hanging by a few rocks under its keel. The first good rain or strong wind would dislodge it, but the traveler did not care. Where he was going now, he would have no need for this rowboat. Many long leagues lay between him and his destination, and doubtless many perils and adventures. The fate of one small Avalonian rowboat mattered little to him. At long last, he returned to his homeland, Mitgardia, but for how long and to what end remained to be seen.
  19. I realized Davok and his 'men' did not really have an introduction yet. I am busy building a fortress where a story takes place, yet I made an introduction for the Bull clan first. Credits for the quotes aren't mine, obviously, yet the story is inspired by them :) My plot will be a bit isolated, so there is little clashing with the official story :) (Spoiler: there might come a larger battle, but just pretend, after the story, that it did not take place) The Bulls are a clan of warriors in the northern mountains. They are led by their selfstyled 'king', who sits upon is wooden chair in Bull's Eye Fortress. You will meet him next build. I, Davok Shieldbasher, am the captain of the warriors, and lead them into battle where that spoiled brat can't. Note: I did not say we are the good guys, nor that I am the good guy, nor that there exists something like a good guy. Be warned. Davok: "We were the warriors of the North," "Notorious and brave" "We'd never lost a fight in war, we feared not the grave" to be continued... whole build, almost forgotten
  20. Hello guys, I have not been very active in the GoH over the last year after the "Age of Mitgardia - Military" contest. Now I have managed to build something that would fit for GoH again and I hope that more will follow in the future. Though I am in the guilds of Mitgardia, I hope I am allowed to post a creation that is more Avalonia-based. "The Heart Grove is an ancient place where the Elves of the woods worship the gods of nature. Heart Grove by Jonas O., auf Flickr I hope you like it! C&C welcome!
  21. Here is my entry to the Husbandry Challenge, Hope you like it. I am very proud of the ground and path, so please give me feedback on that part "So, where are we going again? And why does there have to be a guard, well, guarding us?" Tofalru asks? Tofalru is a big guy, a good and strong warrior, but he lacks a lot in brainpower. "For the 36th time," Alfadas sighed, "we are delivering supplies to small villages in the area, because their farms and mills are burned down or abandoned. They don't have food. The guard is here, because the latest convoy didn't reach it's destination. We, my dad and I, suspect hungry orcs are the cause of that. Or the Giant Wolves. That's why I travel along with you". "O yes, you said that already... Must have forgo..." Kraack!! "What happened?!" Alfadas runs back. One of the carts lost a wheel. "Great... Just what we needed" With that, Alfadas orders the guards to keep watch to their surroundings. None of the guards notice an orc spying on them. Alfadas asks Tofalru to secure the barrels on the cart. Alfadas starts inspecting the broken wheel. There isn't a lot of damage. Alfadas calls Tofalru and Ogmund, the flagcarrier. Tofalru manages to lift the cart high enough for Alfadas and Ogmund to repair the cart. But before they can put the wheel on, an orc jumps on the cart. The orc lets out a warcry. Splatsh! One of the guards had thrown her spear and hit the orc right in the guts. He falls. Two more orcs appear, but the other guards quickly take them down. Alfadas and Ogmund quickly put the wheel on, Tofalru loads the barrels on the cart. The journey continues. and the last picture, figles:
  22. The journey across Historica to Nocturnus was going to be a long one. Therefore, it was necessary for the entire army to be able to ride, and ride well. Crynis tasked Horsemaster Ulf with training each new recruit in basic horsemanship. The recruits were led into the muddy farmyard one by one, and assigned a horse. Ulf deliberately gave his pupils easy horses to start with, then more difficult ones. One new recuit who particularly stood out was a young farmer named Detlan, who took to riding like a duck to water. With a canny smile on his face, Ulf assigned him the most difficult horse of them all, a black stallion who was known for his many tricks. Poor Detlan was in for a shock! [ C & C welcome ]
  23. The Mitgardian county of Stormhold was in turmoil. Following the mysterious disappearance of its ruler, Berelan Gryffen, three months ago, the land had quickly fallen into disarray. Mountain bandits and orc clans had begun to raid the villages and there were even reports of Drow in the area. Fear spread among the local people and many considered emigration to other areas of the guild. Crynis Elchafron, Berelan's old friend and trusted ally, finally returned from a scouting mission to report the bad news that Berelan had been abducted by a Drow nobleman, Lord Ravenshelm, and was en route to Nocturnus with an armed guard of Drow and Order of the Dragon soldiers. She had been unable to act on her own, but she was determined to somehow save him. Through messenger birds, she established contact with the Nocturnian Resistance against the Black Spire and its leaders, and pledged her support for the cause. Then the training began. The issue was, Stormhold was a small county of Mitgardia with a fighting force of less than sixty soldiers. When Crynis began recruiting for her army, almost two hundred and fifty hopefuls enlisted, but unfortunately most of them were peasants with little to no fighting skills whatsoever. Help came unexpectedly. A band of northeners arrived in the county one day, having been driven south by the Algus menace. They numbered about forty-five, but were fierce fighters, trained to survive the harshest conditions and willing to act as mercenaries for the small army that was gradually forming. To begin with, each hopeful was assigned to a brief one-on-one sparring session with one of the mercenaries or militiamen, using stout wooden staves as weapons. Crynis herself personally observed each bout to assess whether or not the man had any potential whatsoever. She was currently watching a young peasant, Bjorn by name, face off against a seasoned mercenary, Wilhelm. Bjorn showed some promise, but stood no chance against the experienced soldier. Still, this was only the beginning. And great things can come of small beginnings. [ Sorry for the lengthy backstory. C & C welcome ]
  24. The residents of Hardhearth, a once proud and independent Mitgardian village, have taken to their boats in flight! They flee in terror down the riverways south of Nordheim, hoping to outrun the Algus menace that has descended upon them. The escape is haphazard and rushed, with little room on the boats for even those who make it. Some swim after them, hoping desperately to get away. Others grit their teeth and do what they must, to save the lives of friends, neighbours, and comrades stricken by the curse of the Algus. And the scourge? They stand resolute, watching, a haunting reminder of an evil moving ever southward. One of their leaders, the Horned King, personally bears witness to the flight of the Hardhearth folk. His lieutenants and berserkers and cryomancers leer at the humans beneath their forest of icy blades and pikes. Only a lone goodwife, armed with a bow, summons the nerve to look back at them what drove her and hers from their homes. Her hands shake with what she tells herself is merely the unnatural cold, but her gaze does not waver.
  25. The storyteller stared into the fire. After a few seconds he began: "So there I was, navigating my frail craft through the ice-filled waters to the north of Mitgardia. Concentrating all my efforts on trying to avoid a disaster, I failed to notice the huge wall of ice that I was rapidly approaching - until I hit it, that is. Well, having made up my mind to explore the new land I had come into rather violent contact with, I set to work to dig a whole through the wall... "After a couple of days, by which time my scanty supply of food had nearly ran out, I succeeded in making a whole just large enough to squeeze myself through. You may imagine my surprise when I found myself face to face with an angry and humongous blue-eyed white walrus! It was by far bigger than any walrus I have ever seen, and after throwing my spear at it (I missed!) I took to my heels. I had never run as I ran at that moment, but it was to no avail. The walrus ran faster! I slowed down for one split second, and, the next thing I knew, I had been swallowed by the walrus! "Be assured, it was extremely warm inside that walrus, though the ribs did provided comfortable seats. However, I soon grew anxious as I noticed that the walrus was going towards the water, and that if he was to dive I would of certainly suffocate. In my terror I began to rush hastily back and forth, an action, by the way, which the walrus did not seem to enjoy, judging from his movements and the muffled noises I perceived to be his roars. In desperation I grabbed at a the inside of his tail and pulled with all my might. To my astonishment it moved inward a little. I was instantly struck with a wonderful idea, and tugging as hard as I could, I soon pulled it up to the walrus' stomach. "Now it really seemed to be unhappy. It seemed to believe that it had a stomach ache (which was true enough!) and was trying to vomit out its own tail! Although it was now moving outwards of its own accord, I did not cease to pull on that tail with all my might. Finally, after a tremendous upheaval, I was shot out of the walrus' mouth like a bolt of lightening. I had just enough time to look back and see the walrus turned inside-out before I went crashing through the hole I had made in the icy wall and plummeted onto an ice-flow, from which I was rescued a few days later. So, you see, I would probably stay away from there if I were you!" Another pic: The fire was actually lighted, though it is a bit difficult to tell. I would like to receive UoP credits for: General Building - interior design and General Building - lighted builds The story was inspired mostly by a similar tale in one of R. M. Ballantyne's books (Red Rooney, I believe?). Thanks for viewing, C&C are welcome!
