Well, it certainly wasn't easy but I managed to reverse engineer most of set 43217 - 'Up' house (seen above in spoiler) and add a back to it using just two box pictures. I added a back half and raised the build by a brick and a plate. Unfortunately, I just couldn't figure out the roof from the set or the original bay window. The former just got swapped for a brick-built roof, while the latter was removed and replaced with something simpler after much stress. The new rear half. It had it's issues trying to get everything to work. But it's good enough for me. The house folds open and even wraps around the chimney as much as possible. (The odd-size flue sticks out into the back half's space a bit) The lower floor features a living room, foyer, kitchen, and dining room while the upper floor features a bedroom. The first floor worked out well design-wise, but the second floor is an absolute mess due to all the supports / arches / beams needed to hold the roof together. Speaking of the roof, both sections aren't very pretty, but it works... at the cost of taking a whole bunch of upstairs space on the inside, as you can see. This vintage car was heavily modified from a model by BricksAA and these free MOC instructions over on Rebrickable. The car features a spare tire hanging at the back of the vehicle. The roof is removable to seat the three figures on the inside. EDIT 3/11/23: Car photos added! Thoughts? -
This copy of set 43217 (UP house) has an added back half I bought instructions for off Rebrickable. You can see that model by user rykfield here. The model deviates from the film slightly, as there is a driveway with a 1960's car parked on it on the right hand side of the building as I figured Carl Frederickson needs a way to get around! (Please excuse the dusty keyboard) The new back half is very film accurate! The inside of the front of the house. I rearranged some of the furniture, replaced all the picture stickers with printed parts from various other themes, and added a a rug to the living room. The new back half, with furniture ideas drawn from several older modular buildings. (TV from Corner Garage, recolored wicker chair from Detective office) The modular base with the house removed. SQUIRREL! This early 1960's car was inspired by a 2013 LEGO CITY Undercover car. It was rebuilt by Labronco Brick Designs as seen here. I modified it a bit and remade it in blue instead of the original red The tailfins are my own addition to the car, making it either a late 50's / early 60's model. The car seats one figure, with a suitcase (or a walker) fitting behind the driver. That's all for this MOC. If you have any comments, questions, suggestions, or complaints, let me know below. This updated version of my 2023 MOC of the UP house - set 43217 (and a back half addition I found on Rebrickable by user rykfield) features a new removable modular footprint. The green Studebaker is also new. This version of the house folds open and locks shut on a Technic pin. I built the house's rear half from some movie-accurate instructions on Rebrickable, as seen here. The rear half of the house. The rear half of the house's interior. Most of the furniture seen in these two pictures is recolored from the Friends 'Downtown Flower shop and Furniture Store' (set 41732) along with a few pieces from the 'Moving Truck GWP' ( set 40586) and the original UP house itself. The removable modular base without the house. It features a birdbath, driveway, and opening gate. This car's bullet-nose front end was inspired by the look of the 1950 / 51 Studebaker Commander while the color scheme and rear bodywork were inspired by a old Indiana Jones MOC by @hachiroku. The rear has two coverings partially obscuring the rear wheels, in true '50's elegance. The roof comes off to place a figure at the wheel and in the backseat. This mini fig (the owner of house and car) is modeled after my Great Uncle Jack. (the family just calls him Uncle Jack) He's an ex-Marine, Korean War vet, and tough as nails with razor-sharp wit. Yet he's also the nicest, most friendly man you'll ever meet. NOTE: Sorry for the dark colors of the photos. My phone hates taking pictures of things that are blue and / or green. I had three different light sources, and it still turns out too dark! Thoughts?
