Do you not only buy some LEGO sets. but also some watches, key chain, playing cards, magnet or even eraser/notebook? what do you think ? anything wrong?

I am new for GBC too. here are some of my thoughts 1) any sets would do, although you might want to buy some Technic sets. normal bricks & Plates would be useful too. even your existing set 2) there is a basket piece, you can also build your own using bricks or Technic parts. balls are a little hard to get - (some GBC fans are hoarding a lot of them). maybe try to get from bricklink. also, there is a thread for it. I feel I am getting close.. haven't sorted several boxes loose pieces which I just bought a couple of months ago. and seems that I am running out of space already (for storage). I guess I have to sell something .. Don't mention the sets I am still buying (when it is on sale). but I do not think I want to open any of them for now.

I am not sure if anybody has similar feeling. I really do not like this cockpit piece. (not the color, although I hate the clear the most) somehow I feel this isn't LEGOish. or maybe too Childrenish(more like a 4+ piece)? is this only me?

Just want to share with my updated LEGO room. it includes: pieces wall display shelves 2 building tables LEGO FLL table kids train table Still need some cleanup work. but I think I will not add any new furniture anymore.. will try to spend more time on building! :)

Based on my experience, we usually stay there for almost a day (3-5 hours?) for events, you can check http://www.brickworld.us/view/info/eventinfo/ they always have some LEGO short films playing normally (not sure about this year) and also the NXT game (never play though). it also depends how long you want to talk with AFOLs .

In my opinion, LEGO, as a kind of construction toy. SCALE is the one of the most Fundamental thing to consider. (also the COLOR, & FUNCTION etc) we all know that LEGO minifigure is not really the right scaled figure , it is cute , but sometime far from reality. but kids are okay with that - (even the car only sit one people - barely). or the house ceiling is close to minifigure's height. but for AFOLs, we care more about the scale (even sometime we purposely choose the different scale - for effect). so many AFOLs sets / MOCs are bigger - More real - which means more (small) pieces also more expensive.. also I always think AFOLs actually likes more non-minifigure scale - because a lot of builds would be TOO big if fit the minifig-scale. (or hard for function) but kids, most of them care the minifigures and vehicles. my 2c

A little nervous though! I am quite worried about My MOCs are far from you guys'. but at least I am trying. cannot wait to meet you guys!

I put printed bricks together. same for printed slope pieces. for 'special pieces' (like corkpit etc). I do not seperate them from regular.

I bought some parts before. and I know some bought LEGO NXT (Education version) from legoeducation.com. The different is they are focusing on education (of course). so more of technic and even some non-lego robot pieces/sets. Also, they are a little expensive normally and I have never seen a freeshipping there. sometime it could be cheaper though. I ordered some Lego pneumatics tanks parts and some link chains from there, which are cheaper than Bricklink. (not available from LEGO S&H)

I would say that LEGO market in China is just starting to boom. Most of families in China only have 1 child. The parents even won't think twice if there are some good Educational toys out there. there are many middle-class families' kids are attending so-call 'LEGO classes' , which membership is about $1500 for 100 hours! and after these kids grow up, and maybe go thru the 'Dark Age' , they will spend a lot. maybe..

As a dad of 2 elementary school boys, I always share my collections with them. I always encourage them to MOC or/and Play. the only problem is SORTING part. to be honest, nobody likes to do sorting job. so most of time I am the only one to do the sorting - which consume a lot of my own time! so this will be my new year resolution let them share the sorting work. here is the aftermath of playing..

the basic bricks do not seem very useful if you are thinking about minifigure scale - which is the most popular scale. but in other scale, or some sculptures , or see the art works from Nathon sawaya - basic bricks can be very useful! PS. I have to say minifigure scale is so popular , even CREATOR line (used to be non-minifugre scale) now has many minifigure sets.. just my 2 cents

I like the idea! actually I was thinking to make one *much* simpler one - LEGO minifigure recognition apps. so basically like Google goggles apps, you take a photo on one minifigure (either head or torso or a whole), then it will tell which figure it belongs to .
