  1. A little off-topic, but whilst I agree with pretty much their whole list of things not to do in Lego, I have to say it's a shame they won't do anything religeous. Many of the greatest looking buildings in the world are religeous. Just imagine a huge Notre Dame in Paris with a similar piece count to the Taj Mahal, that would be epic!
  2. Judging by your entry i'm not surprised I agree with the size limitation. It forces you to build a MOC that's impressive because of how clever it is designed, not how big it is. I agree that this would help prevent the non-technic loving voters from distorting the results due to a lack of appriciation for technical ingenuety. I think it would be too difficult to have a piece count limit as the judges would have to count them which is more than impracticle from a few pictures. A size limit would be better and also easier for the builder to determine. Well, a steampunk shark did come in second, how much more fantasy do you want? If you are asking why the steampunk shark did not win, then I think it's because the designer of the model appears to have built it with looks as top priority, with functionality coming in second which (to me at least) is by deffinition not technic. As great as it is (much kudos to the designer) i'm not sure it should have come as high as second in a TECHNIC competition.
  3. Just brilliant as always Sheepo! I love it.
  4. This could be great (tho I sadly don't have the time right now to compete ). A tournament would be fantastic. It would start with, say, 32 contestents, dualing in pairs. The 16 winners would then dual in pairs. Then the 8 winners would dual and so on until you get one winner.
  5. I think they were black in the snow groomer.
  6. I just want lots of groovey new parts and alot of mechanical authenticity, like the unimog. A white flagship would be awesome. A white (or blue, but not white and blue) 1:8 scale supercar that looks like a lambo with an authentic gearbox would be sweeeeeeeeet! Or a forklift or a JCB backhoe with longer pneumatics. A fire truck COULD be awesome, but personally i'de like more than just a standard rolling chassis with an engine. How about having leaf sprung live axle suspention with telescopic shafts that go the the engine like the real thing. It could be motorsied with a gearbox that selects between drive to the chrome rear wheels, rotation of the ladder (assuming it's a big American style truck) and pneumatic functions (like lifting the ladder, operating the stableisers and so on) and extending the ladder (via pneumatics of course ). It maybe too much to ask that it pump water, parents might shout, but a new PF rotating flashing light element could have uses in many vehicles. To be honest I think most anything could be made into an awesome technic set (except for maybe a banana!), for me it just depends on how authenticly they can realise it and what awesome new parts we get.
  7. It's as loose as a sausage in an alleyway but hey, I can only pester lego for the parts I want for so long
  8. With only 4 sets released that year, I assume they were released at the same time. Blakbirds technicopedia has some great information on this. In evey year he reviews he shows a list of all the new parts released that year. http://technicopedia.com/1977.html
  9. That's right. They use a 3D printer to make prototype parts then pay for the expensive mould to make the finalised mass produced versions. Remember the pictures of the prototypes for the unimog? You may have noticed that some of the new parts were an off white colour, typical of a 3D printed part. So I guess if Lego does it, it's fine for a purist to do it! @Gekke Ted I'm looking forward to seeing how good these parts are.
  10. The new female part (the dark bley part) is fairly useless if you want to use them for driving the wheels of a motorised vehicle. They are too soft and so the male part keeps popping out. It also have a very limited steering angle, so if the suspention travel is slightly large, there is no steering angle spare to actually steer the wheel. I don't really get that frustrated with it, I just wonder why TLG made some fairly odd design choices. Oh yeah and I also hate LAs, but I guess you knew that!
  11. Well if it's technic gears then it would be the first technic sets released in 1977. By the way, if you go to peeron you can search by part (type "40 tooth gear" in the search feild, then click on the technic one), then you will see a list of all the sets which that part appeared in with their year of release next to their names.
  12. Well what kind of gears do you mean? Samsonite, expert builder or technic?
  13. Hi, just wondering how many of you guys share my pain! Sometimes I feel just a little frustrated at some of the parts designed by Lego. Take technic cv joints for instance. The ones from the 8880 are a great size for strength and giving large steering angles. There's also very little friction between the ball and the hub. However the friction between the trunion, wheel and the hub is vast and you can only use one type of wheel. The CV joints from the 8466 offroader can be used with many wheels and there's very little friction between the hub and the trunion, however the CV and hub is tiny so has a very small steering/suspention angle and the friction inside the socket is quite large. Nither of them allows you to create the proper steering linkage geometry like you would find in a real sports car. The three CV sockets from 8110 are too short to hold a wheel on and seem to be made from utterly butterly! So three different CV joints to choose from, all of them useless! Interestingly the CV joint fits perfectly into the dark grey wheel hub of the unimog. It clicks in nice and tight without any friction. However (besides the again tiny steering angle) this has problems too, it doesn't fit into anything that allows you to use the blasted CV joint with it. AAARRRGGGHHHH!!!! Another example would be the large three blade propeller. Probaly the most authentic looking propeller and yet, for some reason, you can't detatch the gear and beam from the back. Why didn't they just have an axle hole in there?! So what are your frustrations?
  14. The torson diff does look interesting. I wonder if it would be better to produce the parts with undersized holes so that they could be drilled out to a much rounder and more accurate hole. I must say if it turns out to be plausible I might not be a purist much longer
  15. Well i've seen lots of my ideas in other peoples MOCs, but then I don't really show my MOCs much so I know they have not copied me. What i'm saying here is, it's lego and we're all building from the same elements. Technic in particular requires that you solve many problems. It's very likely that two or more people will come up with the same solution to the same problem so nobody can really accuse anybody of plagerism (unless of course they are passing off a picture you created as their own, which has also happened to me). Besides that does not bother me much. If somebody likes my design enough to say it's better than what they themselves could come up with that's great, although some credit would be nice.
  16. Glad you brought this up. Just lately i've been thinking of getting some parts printed. Would like to know how good these prints are. Can they make a gear as strong as a normal technic gear? What about wear resistance or surface quality? I'm fairly sure the printer(s) at Lego can get close but how do I know that these guys can do the same? Guess i'm just gonna have to try em. Of course if lego themselves were to offer this service, that would be awesome!
  17. All it needs is a technic tornado to chase it round the room! "THE EXTREME!!!!!"
  18. I like the 40t gear, it's really ..... erm..... technicy!
  19. I wonder....we saw them appear at one toy fair, we gave alot of feedback about what we thought and what our hopes were, and they haven't been seen since. Could it be that they are making changes?
  20. It all depends on the motors for me. The crawler itself looks cool easthetically but very simple mechanicly, like the PF bulldozer it seems to be only a way of releasing new PF parts. So we'll see, if the servo has propper proportional control so that I can accurately operate pneumatic valves via remote, and if the L-motor has a very high output speed, then i'll be willing to pay a higher price.
  21. Looks like there just standing there thinking "where the hell are all the women at?!" Caption contest anyone?
  22. Looks like there just standing there thinking "where the hell are all the women at?!" Caption contest anyone?
  23. You built the unimog?! And made your own alterations? DUDE, YOUR'E AMAZING! And I don't mean that in a cheesey kinda motivational way, no, I mean you really, truly are amazing. I mean like seriously you could be on the news amazing! Edit, I know I commented on you building the unimog (and similarly complex sets) before, clearly it has taken this long for the awesomeness of your achievements to sink in
  24. I would love to have those again, like that pack of three generic looking guys, oh the nostalgia!
