Beautiful MOC! I love to see more of those kind of MOCs! I like the PoP range a lot and it gave us nice pieces and colors to build with. A lot of very nice details: the wooden beams, nicely textured walls, the city or fort wall style reminds me a bit on the Lahore Fort entrance. Great freakWave

I think this is no where close to competition with Bluebrick or the Trackdesigner. This targets a completely different audience in my opinion. Secondly it is web-based and features only the current range of accessories/sets (which they want to sell). fW

Can LEGO be damaged by heat/cold extremes?
freakwave replied to Hyun's topic in General LEGO Discussion
In my opinion storing it in sub-zero (°C) temperature would not do much harm if it stays within the beforementioned ranges (above -25°C) During winter I am building now since the 3rd season a snow-groomer and I need to check its functions in "live" condition. DOing so I observe that after a few minutes the bricks seems to loose their flexibility. Especially in the drivetrain you notice (hear) this, slipping gears etc. So better not too much stress in sub-zero! Those slips are the reason why I am building the third year on it...trying to fix them and make a stiffer chassis... fW- 77 replies

New 16T
freakwave replied to GuiliuG's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Makes them more consistant but also removes one possibility of putting bars, etc into the round openings of the former 16t gear. might not be a technic use but makeing greebles for all things space has lost a nice piece... Gerald -
If you look at the official Formula 1 models (Silver Champion, Williams and the Ferrari) you can see a nice arrangement of the suspension in a very small space. It might not be "real" as the suspension on a Countach works. Love the design, also like the studlessness of the bonnet. I think the height is ok, the only lower car I have seen on my own is the Saleen Super Car. That might even be flatter. Great work!

That's a good evolution! Thanks for that one! I also went to the toystore during lunchbreak got the vampire (and 10 other collectibles ) to try the thing with the cape, but it does not work out. It would be too short and the neckpiece can't be transformed in a way it would properly fit (without destroying it) fW

You are right, the scarf would be cover a bit more. It's a pity I cannot fit it on a hairpiece that would make the head not look so naked...But not all are fully covered, I spent quite a lot of time in those countries and you see also a lot of variety. What came into my mind is using the Minifig Series 2 Vampire cape in some fashion to cover her head if it is folded in the opposite direction...

Hi all, for the last exhibition I attended things got rushed and frantic building continued till the last days hours as usual... Resulting in a diorama with mostly standard, respectively little changed Prince of Persia and Indy Minifigs present in the MOC. After have a small creative break with sorting all the mess I came up with more authentic looking Arab Minifigs! Comments etc. welcome! freakWave ArabMinifigs by 1wave, on Flickr

Beautiful MOC! I especially like theeffect of the snowcover on the flat-foot entrance portion! Very good idea! Just missing an icicle , oh I saw some on the other side! So probably the owner fulfille dhis obligation and removed them. Can't stop watching it! fW

Well if those set would be "certified" to have been in space, I wonder what they would fetch on BL :-)

I once appeared in 2002 on a Singaporean Cooking show ! It aired on a small private channel, but then went a year after on the DVB-T broadcasts and one HAD to watch it during communting the public buses... fW

Well, they were on a big sale a few years ago. Three or so. They were ar 50% and I thought I bought mine for about 49 EUR at that time. The part count is good and also the type of parts are nice in my opinion. For resale value check BL: 7784 Batman UCS

It is sad to hear that another contributor and influential person to our hobby has left to early. When I read this news, it came to my mind that the creator of the digital Lego (LDRAW), James Jessiman, died also much too young. I wish and I am sure that in the same way people remember James, Dan's legacy will live on in the community and Bricklink keeps supplying TFOLs and AFOLs all over the world with the parts needed. BL is a great idea and it is good to see it ever evolving! It is just sad to come to know the people behind those great sites during tragic moments. Rest in Peace! fW

5561 mod question
freakwave replied to FROGG's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I was lucky and got this model, too. It is a wondeful set. I thought the same, adding PF and suspension. There is enogh space available in my opinion. Unfortunately I did not have enough time to try and fit it... looking forward to this! -
For those frequent store-goers: I do not know if this has been posted before, there is a site BRICKBUILDR which features the Pick-a-Brick inventories! Some of them are outdated a bit but with a bit of community effort, those can be kept up to date! fW

"Baby Twin Otter" Seaplane
freakwave replied to Blakbird's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thank you for this extensive review and the lesson in airplane design! It caught my eye yesterday browsing a few sets form Brickcon, great that you had the chance to see this magnificent plane! fW -
So I tried my sliding worm-gear suggestion and it works. I did not try it with a lot of load but the principle is ok. Was too late to take pics, sorry. I will do so may be tomorrow. A little disadvantage of replacing such a "quattro" cylinder construciton with LAs is the quite bulky construction of the mechanism.. Mounting the PF-XL directily on the LA... hm, I do not like this, puts some uneven weight onto them. fW
-
Easily: NO With Efforts: YES The crux is that you have to make something that can rotate with an axle, but has to move along the axle as well when the LAs extend. The solution coming to my mind would be a construction with a worm-gear that can slide over a distance of 5L. Now as the LA move they will also pivot somewhere. At this pivot the axle driving the worm-gear needs to have a Universla Joint respectively a gear rotating on this pivot point. See the 8043 for U-joints going through pivot-points as a reference! freakWave Isn't the whole thing the rotating? I mean the bodies of the two LAs including the bottom rod? How is this thing doing in real life? extending both at the same time or extending the upper one first, little puzzled... so I need to try this at home...

My two cents, About clone brands or rip offs: I think those guys have different means to get hold of set pics. I mean, where did those pics came from? Those are from the Shop-Catalogues, which are avaialble to many toy stores to have them place thier orders. So set up a "dummy" store and get access, scan, mail to <insert country of choice>, done. May be even easier if the catalogues would be printed in <insert country of choice> where the clone brands originate from. Therefore I personally think that the clone-brand argument does not really count. I might be wrong though. It is difficult to keep the details secret for a mass-market product like the Lego sets and especially if you have them released in a range fo 30 to 60 a year (or more, I did not count) and are required to time this with releaseing a catalogue to fit the release window. So a long lead time is required. Set design, production, shipping, catalogue printing etc. And now you have a lot of fans who are gulping down each piece of information they can get their hands on, which is understandable. This is different for e.g. mobile phone producers who also want to keep the effect of surprise. Here it might be easier to keep a secret due to the limited number of products released per annum. fW

The miniatures are really great! I like them how they look and also it looks promising what kind of functionality is included in the small space. I'm still not sure about the supercar though. I think a Super-Car out of the box does not need any motorized function. It is about the possibilities inside, drivetrain, Steering, damping and other mechanisms. fW
