  1. Dont forget that the red box actually only turns the dark bluish grey --> red. The light bluish grey top of the box remains; it would leave a light bluish grey plate running the length of the truck. The only real way to get a completely red side would be to use a large plate mounted vertically, as done on the Maersk train. A couple of 4x6 tiles with 12 studs would look good for that. The white ariels as horns does look good. The hand rails at front and back might be a bit too wide (at 8 studs) but not a big problem. The use of the 1x2 bricks with slots does provide a more industrial feel. My feeling is that a solid baseplate colour would be better; changing the light bluish grey sections to white would give it a more uniform feeling.
  2. Its a nice start; and the improved photos look good. EB is a great place to get constructive feedback on how to make models look better... The name CP rail keeps ringing a bell in my mind... so for those interested I list some ricardo (swiss ebay) links to some similar models being sold by someone. Custom SD40 Custom SD60 Custom BNSF SD40 These can provide a good inspiration on how to finish the CP Rail... Also if memory serves me correctly, Custom CP Rail locos sometimes appear on Ebay (Canada and USA). I normally have a search running for Lego Custom Train to find those. They can also provide a good inspiration on how to finish the model.
  3. Good luck getting TLG Customer Service to replace those for you... I know they are good; but that good?
  4. I would assume that these are the favorite contenders. However in Switzerland we have a general website like Comparis.ch or Toppreise.ch which allow you to search online vendors for various items; often I can find Lego models for around 20% the price for delivery here. Perhaps there is a similar price comparison website available in Brunei?... it is not always the initial place to think of but can be helpful. E.g. I discovered (through Toppreise) that the Swiss Post Office is selling Lego; which has a discount for 10% off until end of August, and includes free delivery. Not much help for Brunei; but gives a good example.
  5. After a while I would suspect the constant cheats (probably a small dedicated group) will start realising that they cannot keep getting away with it, and that leaves more room for KFOL designs.
  6. The extension is definitely worth it.... and now looks really good. Glad to see the pentagraphs directly above the bogeys... Who would have thought it is so important
  7. Definitely a good review and interesting to note the KFOL playability which is a good thing.
  8. Thanks for the excellent post Shupp.... and what a great inspirational model. Perhaps, for further clarification, the biggest problem was the vertical axle going into the train section / motor - that's where the 4L + stop works really well; and the bogeys dont fall out when you lift the model up.
  9. Exactly what I am doing The only issue is that it does not generate a high speed when compared to a traditional 9V / RC / PF train motor. This is because it needs gearing up, but there is not much space for that inside a train and bogey. It is more ideal for shunters / switchers than express locomotives. To fix the motor, use a 2x2 90 degree bracket, lifted up one plate and it will hold the M motor very well; and drive the wheels. Mind they dont slip though! Vertical gearing could also be a way to improve speed. Edit: Railbricks #6 has a good section on PF motors for bogeys; and the links above are useful.
  10. And solved my own question. Using the Axle 4 with stop (#87083) solves the problem very well - short enough to be useful in a train MOC; and long enough to keep the bogeys stable under the carriage.
  11. Am not sure where to place this; so hope this is the correct point. This morning I received an email from Lego Shop (07:10 in the morning) telling me that the Lego Power Boat Transporter 4643 is discounted to 19.99 CHF - actually a pretty good deal for us. Click the email link to buy... and up it pops in the original price; no discount code or options... Checking through the email further it says... (in German)... Only for Today - discounts on Lego City Products and free gifts... 'Nur noch heute: Rabatte auf Lego City Product & Gratis Geschenk!' So the question is - how to get S@H to honor this deal assuming that the email sent today; is actually meant for today?
  12. To slightly resurrect this post; I built similar trucks using the technic 12 tooth bevel (6589) but find that the axle easily detaches when powered by a XL motor (direct; as per some of the designs in the link above). Due to design constraints in the model; I also have an axle running perpendicular (underneath) - so there is no space for an axle with stud. Does anyone know any tricks to help keep the gear on the axle - short of a sport of glue? Or should I make a chassis using half width technic liftarms; and then include a larger gear wheel; but risk derailing at the points?
  13. Could be interested... need to check the diary. Are you looking for diarama's or individual models?
  14. Im using a 9V PP3 to PF adapter (custom made from the 9V --> PF cable) - I was able to fit it inside the 4512 Dark Grey locomotive - but only by making the body 5 wide (the PP3 needs 3 stud width). If you have space to use Panels then the walls can be 4 studs wide. The 5 stud wide panels also allowed the PF receiver to be effectively hidden.... Ive not done it with Sava's models (yet) but hope it is reliable...
  15. When I first saw photos of the 3677 Red Cargo Train, the windscreens caught my eye, Red Colour and potentially a much cheaper replacement part for the Santa Fe series (only the portholes remain expensive). My first 3677 arrived last night (finally) and so I took some photos to compare the difference. Trans-Black (3677) versus clear (10020). I also took a photo with it in situe; and actually it still looks good on Santa Fe... So what do other people think? A suitable substitute?
  16. Yooo hooo... and someone has renewed the domain.....
  17. A swiss website is offering delivery on 7/23/11 - but i reas somewhere it is not due until October. Is it worth trying to see if this is an early mistake?
  18. The following sets have a LDD 4.1.7 equivalent LXF file. The original posts have been updated; the old 3.x links remain, and new links to the V4.1.7 files have been added. 7239 - Fire Truck 855 (955) - Mobile Crane 7939 - Cargo Train 4560 / 4561 - Railway Express 7938 - Passenger Train - Note: V4 fixes minifig & track issues 7597 - Western Train Chase 7592 - Construct-A-Buzz 7591 - Construct-A-Zurg - Note: Still lots wrong on this. Needs more work. 7593 - Buzz's Star Command Spaceship Star Wars, Comic Con Cube Dudes
  19. 4512 (Dark Grey) Cargo Train, Theme: World City, Trains No significant replacement parts were required (yippee), but as always not all the decorations are correct (esp. minifig faces). The windscreen parts are not correct as the originals are not in LDD. The two red straight tracks were added so that there is enough space to have the train on the track. The points (Switches) are not 9V type, but all that is available in LDD. Note this model is composed in LDD 4.0 Only. LXF File
  20. Yep - the yellow bars should go back. The original yellow ones; or the more normal train yellow ones (same as most other trains?)... cant decide. I made a moc-up in LDD which keeps the same size nose; slightly taller; and somehow I think it works slightly better?... Two variants; one with a full 5 wide green top; the other 4 wide; slightly offset... LXF File Any comment which looks better before I spend a few $$ on BL to complete the conversions? Should the dark grey light bricks with prisms remain? or be sacrificed for better PF connections?.
  21. I very much liked the 4512 Locomotive from years gone by, the colour scheme worked well, but it was really only 9V compatible. As a 3 hour jaunt this afternoon I decided to see if it is possible to convert it to PF... inserting a battery (9V PP3 to PF converter), IR receiver and of course connecting to Power Functions motor (old 8866 type). The first task was to widen the nose (5 wide) of the locomotive so that the PP3 can sit inside comfortably. Next I took the opportunity to lengthen it a bit - but am not convinced and might shorten again. Finding a location for the IR receiver was also not easy; the new 3677 Red Cargo train uses shutters to hide the light bley. On this case with dark grey no longer made, and very few parts, I decided to sacrifice the first set of 1x2 green bricks (next to the cab) and replace them with a 1x2x3 panel. This allows the IR receiver to point along the nose of the cab, and provides sufficient space to attach the PF cables. It also leaves the cab clear for Engineer Max to stand tall. Because of the spacers, the height is now two plates taller, but it does not detract too much. Does it work having the IR receiver hidden inside the cab windows... yes, but it is far from ideal. Although I tried other options, colour wise it was the best alternative. In the end, running on a PP3 9V battery, this locomotive is destined to be a yard switcher (shunter) with short trips along the main line. Questions: Is the new nose length better? Should the end's be square (i.e. 5 wide, and not using the 4 wide light bricks) Any other constructive comments?
  22. Just wonder how much it will go for... no doubt a silent bidder in the last 4 seconds. Slightly off topic: I really appreciate how Ricardo.ch works, if there is a bid within the last 5 minutes, the end time is extended by another 5 minutes. This is much more like a 'auction house' and means you have a chance to pay up to your limit, and silent bidders dont win by pennies.
  23. Manor is not the cheapest place for Lego... if you are only visiting occasionally then it might be worth ordering some from online to a hotel or friends house to pick up next time...
  24. From memory both work very well; the main difference is that the more recent PF with cable one has improved pulling power / battery usage than the older one (which was the 9V replacement)... but for most cases you probably wont spot the difference. I had bought a load of the 8866 when there was a good lego discount in 2010; and recently found them unused. PM me if interested.
  25. Well... it arrives one day before mine (from S@H) so I guess you get to review first! (Save's me doing it, allowing more time for FUN!).
