1. The Brothers Brick have helped organise charity auctions before; with items somehow listed on Bricklink... they might know a bit more.
2. Someone did a brown emerald night (it is on the forum somewhere) and used 2x4x 2/3 bricks with curved slopes from one of Lego's Pirate games (the only set to release it). Although not officially linked to a set on BL;you can find them in reddish brown;
3. Inspired by earlier comments, and after a quick inspiration this afternoon, I did a rapid prototype of the RTZ wagon as housed at Fulda RTZ Rescue Wagon: WIP by roamingstudio, on Flickr Any hints and tips on the interior are welcome. Currently I can't decide between seating (for rescue) or equipment. The one at Fulda is for equipment and has a nice ramp which comes out.. so perhaps that will be my (eventual) solution. To capture the models better will need much longer bases; probably 7 or 8 wide.
4. Great photos; great MOC... but the best decorations are on the Moscow underground... wow.
5. Thanks... I had spent ages looking for it but see it now in a different place... It also works with the modified wing piece; so we can now update some of the (sub) models from 7939; unfortunately the locomotive will loose its wheels...
6. It seems that the 4x6 train plate with 7mm (or 6mm) pin is also missing... (sorry dont know the part number). But what is interesting is that the two pieces 30036 (Plate Wing Profile) and 2460 (plate with vertical snap) now interact properly, as is required in the 7939 cargo train freight wagon. So perhaps the missing part is being updated?...
7. If it will be an AFOL model (or S@H exclusive) I would expect it to be characteristic of a well known locomotive series. EN was 'made up', but has a background in many well known steam locomotives. MT was modified from EMD series; so not quite a model of a real locomotive, but highly distinctive. These seem to come every 2-3 years. If it will be a KFOL model (somehow 3677 is, but the Locomotive appeals to more people) then expect things with play features. But.. TLG will need to keep 'inventing' to make the series distinctive. We have had a 'Passenger' style... a 'Cargo style' (mixed AFOL / KFOL), a second 'Cargo Style' (not sure why)... Hogwarts express is more licensed than for play... What would be really nice is perhaps a 'branch' out from the Train theme into System... a second older style tram? (although one would need to know sales figures from 8404 Public Transport to know if this is viable). Side buildings will probably be harder to do, as who is the market? Train Children who like pushing their locomotives around... but dont care too much about signaling boxes (but AFOL's do)... Or people who like building 'towns and cities', in which case train layouts may not have much play factor. A locomotive shed (either modern for 3677 or classic for EN) may have good market potential... but I somehow suspect the massive success of the Winter Themes may overlap for 2012; a small Winter Train (mini- steam) with a carriage and a simple snow covered country station fits very very well for both KFOL and AFOL.
8. Cross-over theme build would be fun; similar to the LRZ / Fire trains concepts... (there are many opportunities still to do; plus unique MOC concepts) Alternatively the team could be highly creative and attempt to render a real life scene; e.g. Swanage Railway + stations...
9. Looking at the LXF file - it seems the are a load of building instruction features... specifying which parts goes with which steps and where <BuildingInstructions> <BuildingInstruction name="BuildingGuide1"> <Step name="Step1"> <Step name="Step1Substep1"> <Step name="Step1Substep1Substep1"> <PartRef partRef="434"/> <PartRef partRef="435"/> </Step> <Step name="Step1Substep1Substep2"> <PartRef partRef="433"/> <PartRef partRef="436"/> Was the file customed edited? Is this perhaps a feature we missed in all the releases?
10. Has the ordering by size also changed? E.g. under steering wheel category... we now see some 2x2 plates coming before 1x2 bricks with hinge, implying that the sorting is now height, then length rather than length then height? Perhaps im just mistaken.
11. XP; SP3 works fine... just the few removed pieces are a bit annoying. You might need to update some of your graphics drivers; or change the default graphics settings (to low). Next time; try to copy out the crash report.
12. What would be really fun (locomotive wise) is a revisit to the Crocodile... like the ones from Franke1970 This may be too much; but using EN wheels it would certainly be iconic... although unlikely to be able to make a price breakpoint with rolling stock.
13. Train wheels have disappeared; the ones with the axles...
14. Cool... now some of the old platform (4560/4561) / harbour models can be completed. The old technic steering wheel is a nice inclusion for the older LXF models. The Technic Fibre-Optic part is there; and the <insert that tiresome argument> Cockpits which I used in the 7939 Homage... I wonder if this is an indication of some (older) pieces returning in future models?
15. Yep. Me too... using a rubber band two connect the two axles is the only solution I have found which fits inside the small base and looks good. Any larger diameter cogs / gears will obstruct passage through RC / 9V era points. One solution which might work I saw posted on Railbricks; and that is to use 1/2 width technic beams, and a collection of small 8t gears (along the outside of truck) which can be used to power the second axle. However the small 8t gears obstruct the 12T bevel necessary to transfer the vertical drive shaft. Perhaps this part has a smaller diameter for the 8t?
16. Hi ZuriHB This is exactly the choice I too made for the split level design, the LXF file (above) shows the same concept for a front Locomotive only. It is somewhat easier with the tile + pin connection if you use the older RC / 9V motor, but obviously PF does work as well. Did you try feeding the PF cable through the body of the split base? I think it is clear to assume that a mechanical powered solution can work, but for small MOC's only, and a proper Lego Motor is better for everything else. Oh and thanks for the info on the 4559 solution. I did not realise how they assembled their train as I never really liked the colour scheme (or play factors). I had done a variant where the yellow 2x2 round plates are using 2x2 turntables; it works well but is just not so KFOL friendly (for AFOL it works fine).
17. I found this whilst browsing Lego trains in the garden.
18. Some time ago (about 9 months?) I had posted a question in the Ambassador forum about the ability to have 'bags' or 'service packs' from various models released online, without the need to generate a full product ID. The main reaction is that AFOL's would love it, but from a product management / sourcing perspective it would not work out. From watching the Megafactories episode, it would seem that each model is put through as a batch process; e.g. collect x of element y, sort into bag z. Thus although we might want bags 2,3, all the parts for bag 1 would also be collected - so what to do with the unused Locomotives etc? Setting up a new batch just to print bags 2,3 would require a new production run, slots in the manufacturing facilities, and probably too much cost. Something through Pick a Brick might also work, but once again specialist parts / colours needed for some of models may not be available in sufficiently high quantities, and having excess stock would not be productive.
19. I agree the green ones could do with some extra colour schemes to break up the lines; but the photos don't show some of the structural changes... e.g. using instead of the more expensive dark green bricks with grills. Perhaps some black would look nicer. Or some dark green plates with grill (if it exists). It would also be nice if Lego made in Yellow or Black, as it would then fit with some of the other typical locomotive colours. Anyhow now that the 6-wide phase is nearly complete, it will be time to start embarking on 7-8-wide.
20. Which if (like me) you dont recognise; belong to Thomas the Tank Engine universe. And a great rendition they are too.
21. After Lego released the 7939 locomotive I realised that some of the <insert that tiresome argument> pieces could be used to make a red and black version... but over time I wondered what other colours could be possible using official bricks (and no stickers). So I present the first collection as a homage to the 7939 locomotive from Lego. All locomotives have IR receivers and battery packs; either official or using a 9V PP3 converter. I ran out of proper front / rear couplers, and I also forgot to add the lights to the long train. 7939: Roll Call by roamingstudio, on Flickr 7939: Laid Out by roamingstudio, on Flickr The long train does not (yet) have any interior / seats, it is more a concept to see what is possible... And as a cross over, a slight homage to the older 4560/4561 locomotives. Perhaps how they could have been... I did investigate the use of split bases and custom bogey's, but it looks too long and strange. The roof is currently fixed, but ultimately I will make it removable... I just need many more white plates and tiles to drop the window height. Then a door would be nice; but hey, kids love it anyway. If anyone wants the LXF file for the <insert that tiresome argument> versions; they can be found below: 32 stud long 28 stud long
22. Amazing... but for the next challenge; Hexadecimal
23. Nope... it seems the videos were uploaded public a little bit too early... both are now listed as private.
24. As a little update; my Lego branded rubber bands arrived last night. This allows the front axles to also be driven from the rear axle (with 1/2 width bushes). It improves the drive performance; but it is still regularly slipping and using custom base plates probably makes the most sense. A good design exercise.
25. Great mocs; great designs, and deeplinks would be ideal. But certainly a great inspiration. The lime green and light grey echo the BLS trains of Switzerland.
