In praise of Emerald Night. I'm sure everyone has this. They buy what looks to be a really well sone set and then after a bunch of MOCs and all of a sudden it feels lacking. I have to say that even after seeing MOCs like Big Boy and BR01 the EN is still a really well done set. It still looks like a nicely done MOC.

You bet your megablocks they are.

I also think that Fire Brigade is a superb parts pack.

I don't understand. How would a new 3PO change the one you already have; does it mean that TLG will come to your house a take your OT fig?

I have a very long shelf on one of my bedroom walls, and I rotate out my sets. I usually display them for a month or so, at which point I've picked up another set. So I break down one of my previous sets and add it to my boxes of bricks to MOC from. Only my Modular buildings and Star Wars UCS sets I keep separated from the rest. I really don't care about the boxes, I usually toss them after I build the sets, so its 2 gallon zip lock bags for those particular large sets. I also bring one newly built set to display at my office, I spend more time there than at home it seems, and my boss said she wants to have a Lego town display once we move into the new space.

Freedick, unfortunately making good modular buildings requires a lot of money. You also need a lot of bricks with the studs on one or two sides as well as tiles. If your budget allows, I would buy two of the currently available modulars, Fire Brigade and Grand Emporium, and one of the Green Grocer if you can land it for a good price; you should be able to build a good MOC from those two sets. The Creator houses are excellent parts packs as well. The most important thing is not to sweat the colors initially. Once you are happy with the shape you can adjust the colors and maybe hit bricklink for the parts you need in the colors you want.

Just pi9cked up the new Dan Le Sac vs Scroobious Pip album.

I think those pics are bigger than the ship. :D In the side view it looks like the masts are too close together. Otherwise its an excellent ship.

This is a good place to start. http://www.flickr.com/groups/1120060@N22/ Or you can search the town section for the word "Modular".

Best method is to buy one of the modulars and build it. That will give you a feel for techniques.

I'm a programmer.

Sorry, I meant large as in 1500+ piece sets like modulars, Star Wars UCS, Tower Bridge; that kind of thing. I don't consider the Slave 1 to be that large of a set.

It looks great and its cool that its on scale with the Shuttle set and the upcoming space theme. On a side note, why do AFOLs usually look so serious when photographed with their MOCs.
-
Its really turned out nicely. Everything fits together and has a nice combination of techniques.

Its a great city. I especially like the Catholic church with its drive-through confessional. :D Could be a medeival style restaurant. Something like "Medeival Times". Or maybe the historic part of town.

What does it weigh... in hectares?

What about a combination? Build the wings out of bricks and attach a single layer of plates on the top and bottom surfaces using those bricks with studs on either sides. You could use the proper color bricks on the leading and trailing edges and the use filler bricks and technic arms to strengthen the wings. The plates would continue the colors from the trailing and leading edges. Now if you are aginst the use of studs then disregard this suggestion. You could add tiles around the wings for detailing as well.

I didn't get any large sets because I usually get those for myself, but I did get the new Slave 1.
-
Its a very good start but the whole ship seems boxy. When comparing against the model photo posted the cabin is huge and its walls to thick. You might want to decide whether you want to focus on getting its shape right, or having a playable interior. You could also do a combination of the two and build version one to nail the details and shabe and then rebuild it, using what you have learned in v1 to add interior details. Regardless, good work so far.

Choosing the title is always the hardest part

Welcome aboard. Now that you're here its ok to admit that choosing a title is actually pretty easy. -
General Pirates of the Caribbean Theme Discussion Thread

I sort of consider Imperial Flagship to be a Pirate UCS, but if your definition of UCS is super huge then I can see how you wouldn't. -
The only other person they could have would be Lando.

Re the engines, I have nio idea about if the scale works, but what about 2x2 trans-blue round bricks with the 4x4 curved pieces around them.
