8458 Silver Champion
Enilder replied to ybeline's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Bumping this thread. Does anyone have 3rd official model built, which looks like street car version of F1? Based on pictures that I've seen, I am not sure why this 3rd unofficial model is so popular. Maybe I need to see RL picture of the 3rd official model to see how "crappy" it is(?). -
"MOC" parts
Enilder replied to Enilder's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Brickstore can only import .bsx or .bti. Han's model file is in .mpd. I tried to export or save as .bsx or .bti (even the file extensions that you mentioned) and it won't let me. Another issue that I am having is that when I load Han's .mpd, MLCAD tells me some files are not found. I tried to "Scan Parts" under MLCAD to see if that helps anything but it doesn't. Out of 300+ Excel cells, I've only gone through 50 of them and uploaded to BL, which took me quite awhile due to different part numbers, etc. Others: I didn't know you can order parts directly from LEGO. Anyways, it's more expensive than BL so that's out of an option. Thank you for your help though. -
"MOC" parts
Enilder replied to Enilder's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
yeap. i know you have one! from what i've seen, you have all LEGOs that i want. i noticed that Han's part list doesn't really match BL catalog part numbers. did you have to manually double cross check peeron and BL to order right parts? i am not familiar with part names and part numbers so it took me awhile to estimate the cost to build. -

"MOC" parts
Enilder replied to Enilder's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
In case you are wondering, I am building one of Han's creation. I am not an expert or any (just got back into LEGO since 90s) to do decent MOC yet. haha http://www.designer-han.nl/lego/prinoth%20leitwolf.htm Pretty cool IMO and it's a big size (as big as 8258). I am not sure if 8258 is worth picking up for cannibalizing in case it becomes available. I checked out the list of good BL vendors but their price seems to be higher than average, which is the reason why I asked. It doesn't really make much of a difference if you are buying small portion of it but if you are buying ~3000 parts, it does make some changes. Back to BL. :p -
Not really MOC but trying to build someone else's MOC. Is BrickLink the cheapest way to get parts? I thought about grabbing new lego set and cannibalize it but wasn't sure. I need to buy about 3000 parts because I don't have any spare parts (I have a little from 4 sets I bought so far but it's few). Thanks!

a few questions
Enilder replied to RXBandit's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
front loader is backordered so i can't comment on that. (i've ordered but it will be here next month) crane truck is 4/5 in my book. not as rigid as i expected but good amount of functions to toy around with. if you can find one, pick it up! i've also ordered lamborghini but i can't really comment on that since it's backordered as well. my race truck (8041) arrived yesterday and i finished it. it looks good and all but definitely not worth the price if functionality is your primary target. i bought this because it looks cool. 4/5 because of lack of functionality. my first technic in 2009 is tractor, which i bought it at the same time with 8258 (crane truck). it was on sale for ~75dollars, which i thought it was pretty good. there was a review about it and was not recommended mainly due to price and functionality. people who have owned tractor model before thought it was a garbage but i never had one so it was worth every penny (even considering parts/$). if you have couple hundred dollars to spend, as previously mentioned, crane truck and front loader get my vote. my local lego store had about 10 boxes of crane truck about 2 weeks ago but a week later, they were sold out. (crane truck was marked "sold out" long before i went to buy one in person at the store) anyways good luck! -
yes it looks good and stiff (probably because it is short). it looks good to me as well. i might considering buying a second set for race car (maybe, i doubt). TONS of space to include PF as you mentioned. mine came with wrinkly sticker set (again) so ... :(

done with 8041...

if you are talking about quarter circle part on both sides (8258), this one doesn't have any. i didn't destroy 8258 box. i simply opened two arcs toward outside (ripped) and it opened vertically. man i feel like an idiot for asking this question. hahaha anyways, i opened it and i accidentally cut portion of the flap inside. not that i will resell but i like everything in a good condition. :)
-
i got it but i dont know how i am supposed to open this without destroying the box...help?
-
when you say inventory, you'd like to see the box itself in person? i am not sure how that's going to affect your decision as everything is listed on LEGO site and various other websites. do you mind if you clarify? it's not the best way to spend 60 bucks on 600 parts (10 parts/$) compared to other technic models with 10+ parts/$ but i really don't mind. i only buy technic and several cool looking cars from LEGO product lines do I don't spend money too "often" as far as i can tell up to this point. (7784, 8169, etc.) if you need some info on products, i can get some pictures for you if you want. i am getting mine today according to UPS track.

my only questions is this: ok, those aluminum parts are strong and aluminum connectors are great. does this mean that all MOC (or whatever you are building) needs to use aluminum parts? compared to ABS LEGO bricks, i am not sure if there will be permanent damage to bricks with aluminum connectors going in/out or rotate around ABS bricks since aluminum connectors have less flexibility compared to ABS connectors. do you have any idea? i've not built that many LEGOs but 8258 bends pretty bad (chassis) and i am not sure if this is general for other LEGO technic models but i can definitely use some aluminum parts for chassis.

8258 broke(?)

done! thanks! haha i want to add PF (lights) but it's not available at the store and i dont know how that thing works with transparent bricks. maybe i should search. :p going to eat breakfast first though! -

lol poor duck! looks fun! is that a nearby lake? -
i will be building that all day tomorrow as soon as i receive it! i was debating on rather to get snow groomer or not. i decided not to but instead, i will be building this: http://www.designer-han.nl/lego/prinoth%20leitwolf.htm i price it out last night and it's going to cost me 200 bucks for the body and unknown amount for winch. i am thinking somewhere around 50 bucks. well back to the topic, i will post back here when i get mine :)

price is quite out there for me but i am sure that it's worth it to them. i wish it comes in yellow instead of red. still awesome though!

I haven't played with LEGO for more than 10 years so I don't know if I was unlucky to got the wrong set. This may have been discussed but here it goes. Why can't LEGO securely attach instructions and sticker(s) to the box? I have bought about 8258 and a tractor sets and specifically, 8258 (the one with sticker) sticker set was folded and stickers were taken off of the sticker sheet and they were on the side of the box. Also instructions are ripped (minor). I will see what condition I will receive 8041 tomorrow but it'd be great if they can somehow secure them onto the box. I am glad that customer service is the best out there but I am guessing I will have to call them whenever I get my set due to poor assortment.
