I started a little journey into inexpensive automation making use of the existing LEGO PF trains without modifications. I had an Arduino controling two trains through infrared Power Functions and magnetic train detection.
Clever! I also like that Kadees can be uncoupled magnetically.
Neat idea. I use the same setup to adjust my GBC ball launcher's angle. Do note the small LA has an internal clutch mechanism. It can slip if you put too much weight on it. (> 900g)
I'm fine with the LEGO buffers. They don't look accurate for North America. Although, I found some MOWs with buffers in NA. I guess if you look hard enough, there is a prototype. It is possible to 3D print your own coupler. How about coupler box that can hold a Kadee coupler? Your local library may have 3D printers for library card holders to use.
For fun, I speculated my own Friends Party Train. No bar car since there are LEGO has rules on alcohol.
Thank you. I'm definitely interested to see when the actual set comes out.
It's probably going to be more like the Creator Emerald Express set. It's a 5 euro set. It doesn't come with tracks. It does look nicer with tracks but it would put out of the target price. Another 5 euro could cover a minidoll and animal and car?
My speculation and interpretation of the LEGO Friends Party Train based on the information posted so far in the 2016 Friends rumor thread.
41111 Party Train-Mia, small train, new animal
Price on Amazon.de 9 Euro.
I'm guessing it is one of those kids party train on tires or narrow gauge track that you can hire or rent. Maybe Mia is having a party for her animals and there is a ride for them.

I think the train tracks might put it over $10...
