  1. I agree. However, it is not a step in any direction. They have been doing this with minifig-only sets since long ago.
  2. After taking a look to the instructions, I got to say that there is a world of difference between the 'rookies' and the other guys. The two-weapon guys being actually the first good constraction impulse sets in a good while. I might actually get one. If only the trans parts were detachable... Edit: Did anyone notice the "preliminary" tag in rotor's page about the thornax launcher.
  3. I'd rather have alien goddies than human baddies. Is it so hard to make one of the officers in those sets with 3+ officers to have an alien face? I mean really... All this discussion made me realize how awesome the set is. 2010 sets won't come here until November / October if I am lucky, but when they do I hope getting three of them. The ship looks like will increase in value once you have more than one, and the "blacktron 3" bodies are a must have for me. All blacktron I ever had were two blacktron 1 figs from two space police 1 sets, but I lost them :(, it is time to get a blacktron gang...
  4. Yay! Let me bump this one. This has inspired me to look out for the Bolivian equivalent of a resale shop. Which turns out to be an outdoor fair that is the size of a city. They sell these huge bags of LEGO with random pieces (and other things), of course, most are dusty, some are nastily dirty and a few are broken, but at the end it still turns out really cheap. Washing the parts and then actually finding storage space has become my biggest issue. What? An actual use for facebook? I can't possibly believe I am regretting my decision not to ever, ever get an account there. I keep getting clone bricks, but they are not that bad. My current plan is to take the non-broken/terribly scratched ones and wash them then I will donate them to a yearly Christmas charity give away of toys for the less fortunate. The clones are really fine as toys once "recycled" through cleaning so I think if it gets a kid into creativity it will ultimately be good news and also there will be less plastic in water and land fills. I just hope it doesn't turn out that they just resell the bricks at the fair :(.
  5. I think every AFOL has his/her own method. A lot of us really do put a lot of money on it. But it also requires you to buy the sets that have the colors you want and do not be afraid of buying two or more ... But I think that once you have a sizeable collection, you will have enough bricks of some few colors, and it is easier then to make MoCs in those colors rather than first think of the color and then look for pieces instead of doing the opposite :) Of course, you should also know how to get bricks without buying sets. There are many ways like bricklink and also trading counts. But most importantly, you should read this : http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=21898&st=0 :) As of me, I was in your position some months ago until I researched about my country's second hand market and learned where to find and get random bulks of pieces for very cheap.
  6. I was not able to see the Jar Jar debacle in this country , people seem completely unaware of how hated the guy is. I honestly have never really minded him. I'll take this chance to once again rant about the awful Super Mario Bros movie. I really think it is the only movie I'd want to unsee.
  7. I think I will further remove the paint and then apply some golden paint as it seems it was painted initially anyway. Well, I don't know. I usually just use a normal water boiler. Wait till it whistles and then wait some time so it isn't too hot. I live in a place where water boils at 86 degrees. I have no idea what the actual temperature of the water is but so far this has been the worst/only issue. Normal LEGO plastic and also the awful quality bionicle plastic used in some pieces (you know the one that is far more prone to scratches but more flexible) seem to do fine. But I'll try to change my habits. My problem with 40 celsius would be that unlike boiled water it may not be able to work as a placebo against my slight case of germophobia. Which leads me... to how about alcohol? Could it have bad long term effects? Also bleach, I normally use it to whiten yellowed pieces but I wonder if color tone would survive a hour of bleach (normallly need days before yellowed pieces begin to whiten slightly).
  8. Well, this piece is not really chromed hence why I didn't expect it to happen. But yes, it seems it is painted.
  9. I bought a bulk of used parts on Sunday . I had some lucky sightings. However, what impressed me the most was the golden slizer head as I am more of a slizers fan than a bionicle fan (which couldn't complete his collection) and I actually had no idea millenia's head was golden. But what impressed me the most was that the gold color was much, much better (in my opinion than just about most of the bionicle gold attempts (not sure about brutaka gold, but it is definitely a lot more gold-looking than kanohi gold and takanuva's/iruini's). But since I bought the pieces in bulk I had to wash them as usual. My routine is boiling water + small amount of detergent powder (generic one used for clothes). It usually works well and does not even remove prints or anything. Unfortunately, today I noticed why millenia gold was not used in the following sets. It gets discolored with just hot water :(. So posting this thread mostly as a heads up in case you find this piece, do not wash it with hot water. Then again I am not sure what the alternative would be in case it needed washing. Perhaps just some disinfectant or something low profile that would still work. Some pics, just hope the discoloration issue is noticeable:
  10. It is not even about MoCs any more. That arm ought to make stormer look ugly in any pose other than the 'normal' one.
  11. imho This is better than the stars, agori and av-matoran. Cost-wise not better than any other impulse set. As for early canister sets, I don't know MAYBE better than the Hordika (did not get any hordika yet so I don't know) but as of the other early canisters I don't really think so. Specifically a Bohrok would eat this set in basically every aspect from aesthetics to piece count to construction to functionality. And all of this putting cost aside... At least they are better than the agori-stars, but that's not really a great accomplishment. I actually think this set turned out slightly better than I originally thought, just wish the arm was a complete arm and that the trans part of the weapon was a separate part. Honestly, the right arm is enough of a reason for me not to take it seriously set-wise. Sure some parts are going to be useful but buying this set for the parts would give LEGO the impression that it is fine to make such arm thing and people will still buy them... Another thing I am not a fan of is the single leg-foot decoration. I'll use my 2010 set money in other sets. I am not saying they will fail or that they are worse than Bionicle , just my personal opinion+decision of what I'll get this time. Hopefully the villains will be better than my first impressions and not have any issue like those.. Anyway, great review, very informative.
  12. I think he is just a modern day crazy person who thinks he is an old time warrior and thus dresses like one. I'll believe that until it is otherwise stated by LEGO.
  13. I think LEGO outsources to China because of mass producing options, I wonder if BrickTW would have such capacity. These parts are very nice actually. I can see uses for them outside of historic themes, some would do nicely in sci-fi/futuristic fantasy MOCs.
  14. For some reason, they did a long time ago in regards to minifig sets. It seems that it is impossible to buy minifig oriented sets without finding all these issues. It has become a tradition with all battle packs, magnet sets and the 2010 collectible minifigs, they are just not the same quality as the sets' minifigs , and I don't know why.
  15. The robot is amazing. I actually didn't remember the episode at all after reading the title of the thread or reading the description but I seriously remembered it after I saw the robot. It is accurate plus it looks very good.
  16. Did your little bird tell you as to whether they'll return to S@H? A "friend" is going to US on July 3rd and it would be very nice if he was able to buy me some.
  17. You genuinely want the cop? That's something you don't hear often. I think it is all right but it really seems not to have anything new.
  18. 4.00 sounds fair considering the original price, all the speculation and the fact you get to choose what fig you'll get, something that is very hard to do online. If I could use bl I would buy me a robot. If you just want a complete set bricklink sounds less expensive than buying a whole box. Buying the box wouldn't make sense unless you want 60 of these figs. But the quality issues don't really make it sound so attractive. Of course, you could get a box intending to resell it. Good luck with that though, there are other thousand guys with the same plan, and at the end, I don't really see your profits surpassing the opportunity cost anyway... You'll be able to sell the 3 cheerleaders in your box for 7 dollars each, but it will be very hard to sell the more common ones (which as you bought a whole box, you'll have plenty of) Why would you sell your cheerleaders anyway? Even I would enjoy to have some as I would be able to make an evil cheerleader robot army with them... That leaves you with you trying to sell scuba divers on a market that will already be saturated of unwanted scuba drivers. You don't have any obligation nor a right to get these minifigs... I don't see how is it offensive to consumers or stupid. Besides, the official US release date has not even come yet, it is premature to make any conclusion. There are no indications at all that the product is not available anymore. With reports of TRU and other stores still getting new boxes over and over again.
  19. I think that ultimately if you buy a whole box the joke is on you anyway. Sure around 30 of them would be cool. But then again you are spending 120+ dollars on made in china figs that are lower quality than usual. There are so many cool LEGO sets you could get with all that money :/ The way I see the figs is as an extra something I would buy every time I go to a store but nothing more. Of course, if it is as hard to find I may not actually bother.
  20. This wouldn't be the first time it happens, so yes, it is possible. I think customer service can restore the missing piece for you.
  21. I also doubt it would make people not buy series 1, I don't really think history agrees either. However, it would suck imho if series two was more available and easier to get than series 1. Because quite honestly, series 2's figs are not as interesting as series 1. Sure, there are ~3 figs that are cool , but in comparison, I would rather buy series 1 than 2 because 1 covers a more broad range of tastes (series 1 covers sci-fi with 2 figs while series 2 completely neglected it) And my chances to get series 1 at all look grim at best. I am now doubting series 1 will be available at all for export in November which is about the date my store gets LEGO :(
  22. Holy.. the scale of that is crazy. And it has light and sound? Are you sure you got official authorization to make things that are so awesome? Cause I doubt it. I mean, for god's sake, it has a crashed ship that's bigger than most of the ships I have had, and it is not even 1/4 of the thing...
  23. Except that the word constraction is horrible, horrible marketing gimmick :/ I would like my precious slizers not to be involved with that word. -- Edit : To be honest I am not sure about KK2 and dinosaurs being included here. Mostly because I think a very easy distinction would be to make a ball-joint rule. All themes that use the ball articulation system could go here. While the other belong elsewhere. If we go toward the "figure" distinction it gets hard as to define for example why exo force mech sets don't come here.
  24. Hmnn that link didn't contribute much did it? I think a recolored mask is much better than a new mold which could not look as good as hydraxon's mask on Von Nebula. I also never got a chance to get Hydraxon, so I have no masks with that shape. I think the guys that rant about lack of new molds in sets instead of focusing on more important issues ruined Bionicle. hehe. Yeah it is a nice approach. I just hope the sets are consistent with it. I have mixed expectations from what we've seen so far. So I am getting anxious for the first review to come.
  25. I am scared as my store receives the year's new LEGO only in October or November. With all the scarcity they may not even receive series 1 :( Need to think of a backup plan.
