2012:) This is set 4628
-
I love the reuse of BP's mask because they still manage to look like different characters. Identity shouldn't rely 100% on having a different head mold. Motorcycle? Eh. I would get Speeda Demon if he costs as much as BP/FL, but if not then I'd pass, not a priority. Bulk is looking great with black replacing white. He is right now the only hero I might actually get this year.

I compare this set with year's battle packs, and the BPs don't seem too exciting. Their vehicles are rather in comparison to this mini TIE. There are four figures but in fact, this minifig is not that common. I think this might be the least expensive set to come with a dark helmet trooper thingie. The death Star (which besides of being a hollow ball has texture that makes it easily recognizable as a death star) is probably going to be great for vignette MoCs. The packaging concerns me, I don't really want the DS to be exposed to the elements like that :/

Please note the complaints about trolling were not directed at you (specially the one you replied).

How much did you spend on Lego in 2011?
vexorian replied to Legacy Man's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I'd say 700 USD. -
Hey, if Evo's color scheme got so screwed up by break out then so should Nex's. It is only fair. Anyway, Evo looks lime in the group shot. Which means that bulk could be purple instead of dark blue. Which would be great (not for bulk, but for me, I'd rather get a purple torson than a dark blue one).

We may be taking the TV show's stills a little too seriously. Compare TV Stormer with Stormer XL, not quite a loyal reproduction. Also note the silver legs in Furno.

Sets: Dismantle for MOC, buy another, Bricklink instead...
vexorian replied to legoalex919's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I used to buy bricks in used bulks. But I recently decided to stop that, as the state of the bricks is not great and you need a lot of luck to get the bricks you actually want. And you need ages to sort and clean the bricks. And a lot of space for bricks that were cheap... I cannot use bricklink for paypal is not friendly to my country and I don't plan gettng a CC. If I could I would probably use it to get a lot of small special pieces. Things like exo force robot arms are very rare for a guy without PaB/bricklink access but are actually quite cheap in BL... I supposedly buy sets for their parts, but I seem to keep most of them built. It is likely that if I get bored about how a set looks I will disassemble it. But if it happens soon after I buy the set that is probably because I didn't like the set that much. I am lately buying duplicates for sets. It helps that I am right now into hero factory, so I don't get minifig overpopulation from doing so (although CM figs are becoming quite an issue). My current fad is to buy returned boxes. I mean, it is pretty obvious to me that to the flea market in here some boxes returned from a US retailer appear and they often are incomplete sets (missing a bag, usually the minifig bag) which makes them very inexpensive. But the bricks are also semi-new (often completely new in sealed bags), which makes it the best piece/price ratio I can ever get for new bricks. Since the sets are often incomplete, I get not a lot of motivation to keep it. (Though many times I ended up getting complete or almost complete sets that way, that's a bonus). -
I see some of the bags are from Skopio: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=31749 Edit: Sorry, I didn't understand your thread at first. That bag 3 with the tan bricks seems to be from another set indeed.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 6 Discussion
vexorian replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Same is happening with my retailers. It is probably because they figured these minifigs sell like hot cake. So TLG increased the offer and retailers keep ordering them. -
If Ninjas can pilot motorcycles and jets, pirates can pilot more than boats.

Did you paint Rocka's helmet and also the shin guards black? Or do black shin guards actually exist? What did you use to paint it? It looks better than other painted MoCs, if you didn't paint, why does it look black?

So, compare titans of 2011? I got to say that after finally getting Fire lord, Rocka XL is the absolute worst titan. Fire Lord actually looks cool and his main weakness is the lack of leg armor. Witch doctor is a definite first place, although his build is not free of gaps he is so tall that he looks like he could go one on one on Kardas Dragon and have a 50% chance of winning assuming only physical attacks are used, in other words, boy he is tall. Rocka XL looks like such a mess up. Honestly, the only good thing about him is the gold bricks, but I think three non-XL Rockas cost as much and would give you more gold.

I like those thought bubbles (no innuendo here, really). At first I thought they were photoshoped then I noticed they are actually well-made brick-built ones. Yes. Yes, it is. Nowadays they are likely to be thinking of this very MoC. Is that better?

NinjaGo is likely becoming my secondary theme this year (with HF being the primary). It is just about the only non-licensed system theme besides City that has any hopes of appearing in the retailer aisles and has a couple of good set designs. (Non-licensed and good set designs already makes the theme a lot better than most of what happened in the latest years, besides Atlantis and SP3, that is).

The silly armor could suggest he is in the World War Hulk arc. Nah, that's just silly.

You are talking about the same company that brought us 4 juniors and Galidor. I mean, they can do much, much worse. Where are you getting catalogs from? I miss them. Lies, all I see is licensed stuff. When a store is full of a product and they get rid of it, then it is because they like the product. Stores like a product when it sells well. You calling ninjas and 2009 fantasy the worst past themes? All toys are rip offs. Yeah, but kids buy them, and the pieces and sets are great. If you want to complain about Kingdoms getting discontinued, it is LOTR to which you should direct your rage.

eBay user sells instructions for other builder's MOCs
vexorian replied to Badsneaker's topic in LEGO Town
I object to the seller adding a disclaimer saying that it is his design and that nobody should copy it. It is hypocritical. However, Reverse engineering instructions out of pictures of a design does take skill and is work. As there are reports of some mistakes in the instructions and do not make a perfect copy of the original design I guess it kind of means that the guy is being honest about reverse engineering the original design. Intellectual property is an ambiguous term that doesn't help us at all. It is good to understand that there is actually no such thing as intellectual property. What we do have is copyrights, patents and trademarks, each of which is a different can of worms. When we talk about "owning a design" then we would be talking about patents. I don't think the original maker of the town hall really owns the design. As it is likely not patented. Then we have copyright, in this case there is no need to register anything and the second you release your instructions, if you do not specify otherwise there is an implicit copyright notice you are making. However, If the instructions are really reverse engineered rather than copies of the original instructions then it is a blurry area. If even while modified in format, the instructions are nearly identical to the original then there would be truly a case not of theft but of copyright infringement. In that case , it is best to report to ebay. But if the instructions are unique in their own I don't think there is much of a case. Surely, it is a shame and this is wrong, but that doesn't necessarily mean it is illegal or that ebay would stop it (it requires the instructions to be at least relatively copies of the originals) PS: Aside of the intellectual property stuff. I would report to ebay anyway, as when the guy claims that it is an original design it is sort of fraud. And ebay is a private company anyway so perhaps you don't really need to prove your case just to have the thing removed. -
Glad for space villain. The other are meh. I am just glad there is no spartan here, that is such an overrated figure.

Was it a new stringer picture? (Got deleted) or is it the same as the one from the youtube video?

http://freethoughtblogs.com/pharyngula/2012/01/03/we-still-havent-explained-pink/ In other words, IF there are gender-based differences in color taste. It would mean that whilst most people (male or female) prefer blue, women prefer slightly more purple (Not pink). So the whole "girls like pink, boys like blue" is yet another silly remain of baby boomer culture.

REVIEW: LEGO Friends 3933 Olivia's Inventor's Workshop
vexorian replied to lostcarpark's topic in LEGO Town
Does it come with an extra round trans green tile? The friends sets are cool, it is the mini-dools that are an aberration to all that is good. On one hand, I have double thoughts about buying this set. I wanted the little robot ever since the leaked pictures appeared, and the purple tools shall be useful for some mech ideas I have, and then we have the trans green round tile. On the other hand, if I buy this set there is a chance LEGO would take it as a message that it is fine to use these non-minifigures in sets. So I might have to stick to HF :/ It is just math giberish, of the sort you would catch at any blackboard in an animated cartoon series. The 1->2->3 could be interpreted as stuff I would write in my own notebook when solving graph theory problems, but I doubt they intended it as such. (And of course, since she is a girl she would also alternate flowers and hearts with the mathy stuff) -
They are not ending the theme (or if they are, they will probably replace it with other action figures anyway, they won't stop doing them). They just want you to use the extra money to purchase the super heroes. I will instead buy more and more HF.
