Interest in a Universal Pirates Story Setting?
Aaron Morse replied to Lord Admiral Helden Ravensdorn's topic in LEGO Pirates
How about fellas with really big MOC's for example...me. 38-44 guns is abit of an overkill. one of my auxillaries I'm working on will be as big as some MOC's i've seen. Does taht mean I can't come out and play? :( -
Actually most ships of that era had tar between the seams of the upper deck (black) but the hands would regularly "holystone" the decks to give a more white/tan appearance. http://www.nmm.ac.uk/server/show/conMediaF...egister/lowhtml http://www.ussbremerton.org/photogallery/p...holystoning.jpg http://www.bb62museum.org/images/Hart/holystoning.html Below is right from Wikipedia: "Holystone is a soft and brittle sandstone that was formerly used for scouring and whitening the wooden decks of ships. It was used in the British and American Navy for scrubbing the decks of sailing ships (e.g. it was done on the deck of the USS Brandywine before taking General La Fayette home to France[citation needed])." No gray on my ship boyos, tan all the way! Now back ta work or I'll keelhaul ya!

Strictly Concept Ship 5 masted HMCS Andromeda
Aaron Morse replied to Admiral Starwind's topic in Pirate MOCs
Welcome Starwind, love your ship. saw you on Bricklink earlier. Thought the 7 mast was a bit much but this one looks good! Aaron -
I've got two questions/comments about this little scene. Is Gilbert "Clinkers" McFee wearing pants? and 2ndly I notice the last pic shows a bunch of natives around a cooking pot or something....does that mean his escape attempt failed and became an afternoon snack for our island friends?

first answer: take a look at this site, I am aiming on the HMS Bellona. second answer: Okay your'e right mate, proffesional is not the right word, experienced, or expert mocer would be better :-) I started my heavy frigate project out with one row of 2x3 inverted, two rows of 2x2 inverted one row of SNOT configured upsidedown with 3x4 slanty pieces covered by flat tile pieces. looks really nice. My next project btw is also based on the Belona from that web site. Should be starting that by mid August, I'm just waiting for the pieces from Bricklink to arrive to lay the keel. I'll make sure to post pics as I go! Aaron

its been awhile since I've had my haul keeled, send forth the ladies!
-
Its even got a fairly large pull off section right between the main and mizzen masts just aft of the stairs below for easier access for us "larger" kids. Also planning on having the aft cabin slide off too.

thanks for all the nice words, and for that, heres some more pics. http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=196877 notice hurricane "Riley" beside the boat, and the last pic best shows how I angled the hull on rows 4 and 5.

That pic is about a year old so the design has changed abit, I originally had a flat 2x2 round on the end but discovered that leaving it off made the end look more "deeper" hence more real. Yup I used one row of inverted 3x2 slopes, then two rows or 2x2 inverted slopes but the next section I used Aaron's secret patent idea for ship hull design. its actually not a secret its just really hard to explian...I'll post some pics on Brickshelf shortly but again there will be a delay while the moderators make sure my boats exposed secrets include just lego :)

Arr. NewBrunswick, Canada to Philadelphia..hmmmm. Well I'll be makin' the trip, but to steal yer booty and yer wenches! That would be lego and women in people talk! AARRRR! (Although my wife would probably not be pleased if I brought home the wenches...or more lego either) Aaron

26, there's enough cannons to fill all the ports on the gun deck. I'll need another 8-12 for the top deck. I've got 16 marines (red soldiers), and about 80 sailors ready to man her and about 30 some french (blue soldiers) for them to skirmish with while ashore. Although my kids just boarded the Challenger and wiped out the crew with IG88, Count Dooku, Boba Fett and a couple imperial troops (stormtroopers), it was quite a massacre, muskets and sabres against lasers and lightsabres ekk! Kids just have no sense of historical accuracy. Aaron

So it be Jack who owes me the gold eh?

Looks like a "smasher" or cannonade to me. looks good too! Yeah "my" cannon! except now its the property of lego. :( The "worst" thing that could happen is they could take it and make it into a "real" kit (and maybe put a really big boat out too!) ;)
