  1. I welcome a Batman-centric movie, but like others, I am a little worried it might be Bat-overkill. I would love to see some more spin-offs, but think most supporting characters would not be able to carry their own film--heck, I don't even think Emmet would be strong enough as a character for a second round. Where would the story go with him? I would, however, love to see a cartoon series based around Metalbeard with a lot of Unikitty, and believe that would be the perfect format. Bring in the other characters here and there but feature those two, in twenty minute episodes: animated gold.
  2. This was hilarious. This and American Ninja Warrior (or the original Japanese, even though I don't know what they are saying) are the only reality/competition shows I can stand. If a Chopped-like format were adopted, where competitors are against each other as well as the clock--and have to feature specified ingredients elements--I could see that working quite well. I am not sure how they could translate ANW to Lego, but I would probably watch it anyway.
  3. As an infrequent TV watcher, I'm not bummed about the different universes not coexisting, as it means I don't have to try and keep up with both. Besides, we got along forever before the MCU with nothing connected and did just fine, I see no reason that everything should suddenly tie in now. And as a final point, connectedness isn't always a good thing--after all, it means that somewhere out there in a corner of the awesome world of the MCU, there is the disappointing world of AoS. IMO Man of Steel wasn't a bad movie, but it didn't really do much for me either. However, seeing DC put this list out there--thereby committing to these films and their lesser-known properties--shows a little confidence that maybe DC can pull this off. (Or that WB is so desperate for a franchise to fill Harry Potter's and Middle-Earth's shoes that they'll even take Aquaman.) I joke; I really think this will be a positive thing for the DCU.
  4. Checked my Target today and they had the Series 12 display...but had stocked it with Simpsons figs. :( There was no price, so I found a nearby scanner to see how much they were ringing up as. $2.99! Still too much for a Simpsons fig, but get this...the description listed them as Series 12. This on top of my local TRU selling out hours before I got there, and I have yet to see these in the wild. I'm headed to the Lego store on Friday, though, but I was looking forward to scoring some at Target for 3 bucks.
  5. It reminds me a lot of the Jabba's palace controversy, where LEGO essentially said, "No harm intended, we think you're crazy, but officially we feel bad anyway (but we're still only going to halt this set's production run when we're good and ready to)." Just replace that last bit about production with "contract." All TLG has really done here is to get Greenpeace off their back with a well-timed acknowledgement that they still have a contact fill.
  6. This is the exact reason I told myself that for my first ever SHIP, I would not allow myself to make any special orders for it. I almost caved, but was able to fight that temptation. Of course, I also did not budget my time accordingly, as it is right now about 75 studs long with zero cabin pressure. In my case, it is not a question of how much a S.eriously H.uge I.nvestment of P.arts costs, but a S.eriously H.uge I.nvestment of T.ime.
  7. I wouldn't say I've lost all respect, but it is tiresome when people complain about themes that they don't like, like Bionicle, or Friends, or especially the Elves line to be released next year. So some people don't like them and will never buy them--so what? LEGO doesn't care, because it knows it will find other ways to get their money. These other themes are designed to get other people's money. Everybody wins.
  8. Sounds like a fun contest, I hope I can put something together in time (since I'm still laboring over a past-due, unfinished SHIP)!
  9. Well that was easy. Good luck with the research!
  10. I think eBay will be your best bet here. Search for incomplete or partial sets, mixed sets, and sets with no minifigures. But, to repeat what has already been said (because it's worth repeating), be sure to look through the pictures and verify you're getting genuine Lego, and that the price is reasonable.
  11. Very cool MOCs, but I love how you have presented them as actual sets. If the actual Castle themes were like this one, I would probably buy them all!
  12. Great review, I like how you have only given us the good parts version of a review, and also mentioned how your child did with the set. While I like the model of the house, I would consider buying this just as a parts pack. That being said, I haven't bought it yet...almost, a few times, but I've never been able to convince myself. That $70 price tag always makes me wonder if I wouldn't be better off just making a smaller Bricklink order instead.
  13. I recall reading on Marcos Bessa's blog of his first week as a LEGO designer that he was amazed that the coffee in the design studio was free, and that there were several different kinds. Maybe this helps explain the ubiquity of coffee machines in Lego sets? Edit: I found a post where he mentions that there was a lot of free coffee and so he kept going back for more. (The post is in Portuguese)
  14. Agree that TRU has improved their pricing, to an extent. My local TRU charges only slightly above MSRP on current sets, but also has a huge stock of sets that are out of production which they routinely mark up about 15-20% of the original MSRP. I'm lucky to live in a state where tax is only 6% on non-food purchases with no other local city or county taxes tacked on.
  15. An alternate method to the hydrogen peroxide soak is using Magic Eraser: On the left side, I scrubbed for about a minute or so, and the right side remained untouched. The left is still a bit yellowed, but additional scrubbing gets it whiter. Since the Eraser is just a soft, dry chemical block (activated and dissolved by water), it didn't scrape or scratch the surface at all. The downside is that since you have to scrub, it is hard to get even around the edges and in grooves, as shown on this palisade panel. I wouldn't even try it for a studded surface-it would shred the Eraser before you could make any real progress. Also, I the piece shown above is yellowed from the sun, and not from the presence of bromine as detected in bricks from before about 1994 or so; I tried cleaning some of those with Magic Eraser but noticed no difference. So, its not a perfect method, but it works okay. Edit: this was taking too long, so I just went ahead with the peroxide; better results with less work.
  16. Yeah, your idea is more along the lines of where I thought it would go...
  17. Going back a few posts, where we were talking about how Whedon plans to up the stakes for AoU, I just read this editorial about another event that could affect that, rather than a character's death. It's all speculation, but we're no strangers to that here...and it's pretty well written, too.
  18. I never got into Bionicle, but I'd be willing to give it a try this time around. The real question now is: what is the rumored NYCC reveal going to be?
  19. I leave my collection in a perpetual state of about 75% sorted. It makes MOCing manageable, but still leaves me some of the fun of finding a surprise part here and there that I didn't know I needed.
  20. I've done it before, but then I really messed a piece up..and ended up not even needing it anyway. That was two years ago, and I haven't done it since. I am still open to modding parts, but now am very wary, and would only do it after knowing it was absolutely necessary.
  21. If only the moustache part came in red, it would fit perfectly here. While Obelix is great, I love the Romans' reactions the best. Fun little vig!
  22. Wow, thanks! I was just trying to search for the sticker sheet directly, but your way is much better. Thanks, this is more of what I was looking for. You guys are great.
  23. So I hadn't checked this topic for about a week and a half, and now it's changed places, led to a subforum name change, had pictures leaked and then taken down from nearly everywhere (except the Google cache...), and about 70B more replies. Whew. Seriously, this theme looks good. I hope the price-points end up being more than fair, as I have a hard time justifying most Lego purchases, even more so when minidolls are involved (honestly, I like the look of them, but it's the lack of articulation that gets me). I love the new pieces and expanded color scheme, and even the models themselves look decent. TLG has another winner on their hands, for sure.
