Lord of the Rings Ongoing Discussion
Something_Awesome replied to Momotof's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
It's not believable. Two LOTR sets that fall under Icons? The only exception to this, if you even want to consider it an exception, are the Friends show sets. But even then, the first set was an Ideas set, so only one falls under the Icons theme. And those are not huge sets either. Rivendell looks to be an Icons set. What would the second be? Also an Icons set? Licensed sets are driven by system play sets. This includes Harry Potter, Star Wars, and even licensed cars with Speed Champions. Big sets and small sets are needed, together, because they piggy back off each other. You literally sell more of each by having both available. It makes no fiscal sense for LEGO to decide to dedicate shelf space to only big sets for LotR. It is for this reason that this guy is lying, because to believe this fake rumor is to also believe LEGO is stupid. And therefore, all of his other "leaks" are fake. -

Two huge LOTR sets before any system scale sets is not even remotely believable. Before such a commitment from LEGO, you would think they would like to know how RIvendell is received, and maybe sprinkle in some smaller system scale sets. Two very big sets for a theme make no sense without system scale sets to accompany them on the shelf. With that said, anything is possible, so I give this leak a 2% chance of being true. -

So regarding the Rivendell set, this is PRECISELY what I am hoping for. This Rivendell moc supports a bunch of figures and uses less parts than what the official set will use. So this is totally doable. My favorite Rivendell moc to date. Displayable AND playable. -
LEGO Star Wars 2023 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!

When I see LEGO Star Wars helmet sets, I think to myself that they are a huge waste of money. Generally not a fan of sets that are for display only and can't be interacted with aside from the build process. There are exceptions. The art sets or the Titanic for example. You can make viable arguments for those. But these tiny helmets for $70 make no sense to me. At $70, you might as well pay the extra $50-$60 for an actual display-worthy replica with weathering on it and battle damage. They look cool. I sometimes wonder if everyone is buying the helmets more out of a passion for collecting everything LEGO Star Wars than because there is some objective coolness to the helmets. -

I do believe the set is happening. At least, a large LotR set of some sort. My concern is whether it will support minifigures or not. I do not like microscale sets in general, but Rivendell being microscale is not my biggest concern, and it should not be yours either (more on that in a bit). The thing with the Microscale Hogwarts is that a castle like that has walls. Lots of them. Tall ones to boot. So the set is vertical. A very vertical set becomes more practical as you shrink the scale. This is not the case with Rivendell. From what I can tell, it has plazas and courtyards and open spaces and things like that. Open spaces should be occupied by figures. Of course, LEGO could just plug microscale trees in those open areas if the Rivendell set is to be microscale. However, at almost 6,200 parts, I think having just a large slice of Rivendell that supports minifugres to be very doable. With all that said, my biggest concern about Rivendell being microscale has more to do with the return of LotR system sets. If the set supports figures, I think it further opens the door for LotR system sets returning. If the set is microscale, it does not slam the door, but it just means that LEGO has an additional step to take before it decides to bring the theme back. I want as little distance as possible between LEGO and the decision to decide to bring the theme back. Hope that makes sense. And regarding the rumored price point and piece count indicating that the Rivendell set is going to be microscale, not so fast. The current Diagon Alley, which had its price increased, is still a better price-per-piece than Rivendell (as rumored). Why is this significant? Because if Rivendell is microscale, then it furthers the gap in value between Diagon Alley and Rivendell, because Rivendell would be using a lot of smaller parts as a micro build. As far as I am concerned, when comparing Rivendell's specs to Diagon Alley's, I could easily argue that Rivendell has a bigger budget for figures than Diagon Alley does. And Rivendell does not need the 22-24 figures that Diagon Alley has. Just something to think about (and something to remain hopeful with). -

So Rivendell does not need to be minifig scale. It can be undersized and still support minifigs. We see this a lot, especially in other licensed themes like Star Wars and Harry Potter. What about the 90th anniversary castle? That's not a truly minifig scale case. At $500, a large slice of Rivendell that supports minifigs is feasible. Personally, I have a gut feeling that the set will be releasing at $550 USD. -

VIKING VILLAGE Ideas set via Target vote
Something_Awesome replied to jtooker's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
LEGO mentioned that the Vikings set would be more geared toward realism than what is typical for LEGO Vikings. So we can probably expect helmets without horns. This was on their blogpost regarding the vote. I personally am ok with either type of helmet. Don't care if it's all realistic, all mythical, or a mix. -

Something_Awesome replied to jtooker's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
All we know is that the viking village will be geared more toward realism than myths. So the village won't have vikings with horns on their helmets or dragons/wyverns/serpents. I like Vikings LEGO toys with some mythical flair. But I am also happy to get a more realistic Vikings set. -

Why would we not see Cad Bane again? You actually believe him to be dead? After going back up and reading other responses, it seems that many of you believe him to be dead. This is interesting. I had not yet come across anyone that believed he died. That he survived seemed obvious to me. If I remember, he has a heart monitor/device, and it beeps. The device continued to beep and at no point did it flatline. I’m sorry but that final shot of him on camera, laying there, the way it was done, is a textbook jabait. -
10305 Lion Knights' Castle 90th anniversary set
Something_Awesome replied to R0Sch's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Agreed. Because as of now, there are three medieval themed sets available at three different price points. It's why I was thinking a blister pack at $15 would be perfect. Also love the catapult idea. Trebuchet or ballistae would also work.- 2,976 replies

I actually believe there will be some Castle themed blister pack for 2023 (it's a prediction, to be clear). A three minifig pack like we see now. Dare I say a Wolfpack blister pack?- 2,976 replies

Keep in mind, we will be seeing live action Cad Bane again fairly soon. Mando season 3 probably. Cad's a relevant character right now, so it makes sense. Would be nice to see a live action The Justifier. No chance we get those sets. I personally think the KOTOR remake will NOT happen. At least not for several more years. -
Had this set as a kid. Was very fun.

Yeah, but like I mentioned, that moc requires three sets and is a huge departure from the original design. It has a number of issues, with the biggest being its greatly reduced playability.

LEGO MOC Medieval Castle II – Mod Combining Two 3-in-1 Castles (31120) by BrickType | Rebrickable - Build with LEGO It's glorious. Looks to also be one of the higher liked premium mocs on the site. I don't see mocs break more than 1,000 likes often on Rebrickable. The creator has digital images, but make sure you click the photos tab for photos from people that bought the instructions. The nice thing is that, for $200, you get a castle with a more symetrical footprint that you'd be accustomed to back in the earlier days of LEGO. It's playable and displayable (though not as displayable as the $400 castle, of course). I would just change the banners from white and red to black and blue or white and blue. Now the Black Falcons have their own castle.

Touché I also ended up buying a farm in June. I've been monitoring the bricklink prices of the animals. Quite steep. So steep, that it totally made sense to buy a farm set to keep sealed for when I need them to also get VIP points AND the Hideout set. As for the 3-in-1 castle, I have two. There is a rebrickable model (I think there is a charge of $10 though) that combines two castles in to one. It is an extremely refined build that retains all the playability. It looks LEGO-official. It is just scaled up. Much better than the free ones that people have been making using three sets. It's not even close. That 2x Castle moc is perhaps my favorite build on Rebrickable. Look in to it. If you're willing to open two of the sets, the $10 is worth it. Not only that, but you paid the original price for them (assuming you bought it back in June). Assuming you can "afford" the blacksmiths, it was a great move. I also own four. 1 to open, 1 to keep sealed for life, and the other two to sell down the road potentially. Or to gift to the next generation in my family as an epic birthday present.

I would be shocked if the Hideout did not come back at least as part of an exclusive gift for the castle. While it is great for everyone to have the Forestmen set, imagine, you are a person that bought a castle on August 3rd and you did not even end up with a Forestmen set from either wave 1 or wave 2? OUCH! I mean.... OUCH! That's tragic as far as having Castle-themed nostalgia goes.
-
Same. I am shocked they sold out so fast considering big hitters like the castle and AT-TE were not in stock yet, Starry Night had not been restocked, and The Justifier is grossly overpriced. Luckily, none of the sets left on my Wanted List are going to retire soon. I suspect that if the Wolfpack do not return in a retail set, it will be as a GWP. So perhaps this is a blessing in disguise as I have two Forestmen sets from the original run. I'm still shocked. Will have to go to the store in person today I guess.

10305 Lion Knights' Castle 90th anniversary set
Something_Awesome replied to R0Sch's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I'l be waiting for the pirate pack before buying anything. I am extremely confident the Forest Hideout will still be available. It didn't sell out in four days last time, then it won't this time. The castle may sell out, but the GWP won't. Not in a rush to get the castle. Just happy it's available. I'll probably be getting the Orchid set and one Viking ship and call it a day. If the Republic Fighter tank comes back in stock, then I'll place a second order with another viking ship and the tank to double up on the promos (I want two Viking ships anyway). No way I'm spending $400 USD on a set that does not yield double VIP, especially when the price point to stack two great gifts is only $150. I am extremely calculated on LEGO purchases. LEGO is expensive enough as it is. My 2 cents.- 2,976 replies

Had trouble voting because ideally, if you have a bunch of medieval figures, it's coolest for them to have a wide mix of different helmets, armors and shields. I don't think of these accessories singularly.

Unpopular Opinions about LEGO

Have to agree on the plastic toy ban, which would be an overwhelming amount of toys. Like action figures. Gonna need to horde some unopened sets then!
