CITY: Extremely random photos from Lego City!
Jasper Joppe Geers replied to ACCURATEin's topic in LEGO Town
Well what can i add to all the comments above?... It's just a brilliant room of craziness i'd say! And a pretty bunch of trucks to! I guess a regular car doesn't bring that much of a challenge anymore i guess? ;) a true Lego environment! Cheers, JJ. -
Wow! Many thanks for this lovely vignette Stanley! If i may ask, can you send me a bigger pic of her? She would fit in one hundred percent! I'll have a look at the parts you used. Only change i'm thinking about is her hair turning grey perhaps... Hmm.... Cool to use the Dumbledore head! Cheers, and many thanks again! JJ

Well thanks you all! This topic has been around here now for a while and only comes up when somerthing seriously new is added to the street. For the rest i leave it to be swallowed by Eurobricks' dungeons of history. haha. Actually i'm thinking of a new kind of trees around here. These are on this street for a while now, and i feel i can do better. Greenery is always a challenge apart in minifig scale, and why shouldn't i try something else? Which goes for the rest of the minifigs as well. I could add much more situations, things that are happening etc.. ideas, ideas... see ya next time! Cheers, JJ

Ah Wout! Nice to see you here.. I understand the word vliezotrap indeed, but i was looking for the Englash translation you see... :) We used to have one of those at my parents house, and this thing and i were never friends.. Cheers! JJ

Look at this! Let me tell you: If you can pull off this one, for sure you can create a briliant 8 stud wide!

Bingo! I finally found my street topic in de dungeons, so here we are. I've taken some pics of my latest Moc, Elladora's sweetshop, and gave this Moc it's place in the street. The Green Grocer had to move one place, but luckily they didn't complain. One problem starts to occur though. These tables that hold this street are more or less fully used. This means that if i'm up to anything more, there has to change something. If i'm able to change tables with the opposite of the room, i'm able to add an extra meter (one feet approx.) to the street... Anyway. I'll post one pic of the street here, and the rest are links, just not to clog up this forum with loads of pics. Enjoy! http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j185/JJG...at/DSCN3118.jpg http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j185/JJG...at/DSCN3116.jpg http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j185/JJG...at/DSCN3117.jpg And a link to the rest of the map: http://s80.photobucket.com/albums/j185/JJG...o%20Muntstraat/ See ya next time! JJ.

Thanks all for the kind words and comments, very much appreciated! Perhaps i will try that. I don't know exactly why i started with Photobucket anyway.. I'm not a big fan of Brickshelf though.. There's always the few hours or a day waiting until your pics become available... Maybe next time you'll find me on Flickr! Cheers, JJ.

Thanks squiz, my pleasure. I had to crack some serious maths and puzzles here and there, and these things are not always clear on pictures. Perhaps i should have taken some pics of the table and radio as well, took me two days to figure it out... Thankfully it is just great fun!

Thanks all for the lovely words and comments! Well exactly! In this case the color shouldn't fit as the 'original' building should be the same colors as the upper floors. Therefore, it turned later into a candy store, and Elladora decided to give this floor it's purple... But thanks for your comments Sandy! Cheers, Jasper Joppe

Done! And my huge apology for being away all this time. it took mainly so long just to get the correct bricks together to build this thing exactly the way i wanted to. it was finished about a week ago, but you'll notice i've spend some time on photography as well. Then again i should say that no minifgs are included yet, and the pics of this moc in my street have yet to be taken. But no matter, the main building is finished so far so here we go. Let's start with the sweetshop on the whole. It's once again a corner building, with a disney style and loads of detail. I've tried to do some work on the pavement like the couch and waste bin. I could add some flowers on the other side as well now i think of it... Hmm. http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j185/JJG...el/DSCN3091.jpg http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j185/JJG...el/DSCN3092.jpg The first floor has the interior of the candy store inside, and frankly, that was a hell of a job. I had to make a decision about the candy. Thing is, if you build everything on such scale, then this is the big chance to fit in as much detail as you can. Therefore i took some lengths of hoses like the pneumatics among us use them, and a knife. To cut these hoses to the length you want is something that is legal in Lego building terms, so don't nag me about this ok? Thanks! http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j185/JJG...el/DSCN3107.jpg http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j185/JJG...el/DSCN3106.jpg The first use of these tubes (or hoses, whatever you like to name them) are clearly visible on the outside of the building's front. I thought it was a neat idea to twirl them around and fit them into a pair of technic bricks on each side. It took a few attempts to get them the way i wanted, and to make sure they didn't come out. Practice is all... http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j185/JJG...el/DSCN3107.jpg Then, I spend a good afternoon doing this cutting, and so creating all the candy. Then i build the first cabinets to fit them in and so the interior started to come alive. Some detailed thingy's here and there, and here we are. I should also say that some of these Chromebricks were great to use! Especially the copper ones, and some silver parts i had. Not to much of it as it would take both the effect and my money away. I could not take a picture from it apart with the cabinets, but in the interior there's a green gumball machine added as well. Here's the second floor: http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j185/JJG...el/DSCN3111.jpg The second floor might not be this interesting when it comes to interior, only a table with an antique radio on it, and a cabinet with books. let me tell you that the cabinet is there for a reason. A reason why you should take a look at the next pictures. http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j185/JJG...el/DSCN3094.jpg http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j185/JJG...el/DSCN3096.jpg http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j185/JJG...el/DSCN3108.jpg http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j185/JJG...el/DSCN3079.jpg it is another idea i had for some time now, to add one of those vintage wall advertisements in the wall. the trick is to stack the nescessary bricks so to create some sort of picture, and use the book cabinet on the other side as a back wall. The radio on the table was quite another puzzle i should say, but i won't explain how i did this. Just leave it to your imagination. I used a combination of medium blue, and Maersk blue plates and tiles here, perhaps that should help? Third floor.. http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j185/JJG...el/DSCN3097.jpg http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j185/JJG...el/DSCN3100.jpg Ok, up to the attick. This is actually not finished yet, as a pair of stairs still has to be fitted to it. It has to be one of those stairs you can take down from the ceiling. Don't know the exact term for this. Anyway. here we can find Elladora's old piano, clock, and the heating system that still needs to be connected, one way or another. http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j185/JJG...el/DSCN3069.jpg http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j185/JJG...el/DSCN3104.jpg http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j185/JJG...el/DSCN3102.jpg I've taken some extra pics of the piano for you. I hope it shows clearly enough what work there's been done to get the pieces in the proper way to make them look like keys. I found many pics of piano's done by other people of course, but i thought it a good thing to come up with one of my own. It wouldn't otherwise be a challenge, and that is exactly the great fun to me. http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j185/JJG...el/DSCN3065.jpg http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j185/JJG...el/DSCN3066.jpg On top of the roof there's an old clock tower, without the clock. I don't know why it's there, but in my mind i simply saw this thing here, so i created it. http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j185/JJG...el/DSCN3098.jpg And here we are! Elladora's Sweet Shop! I had great joy creating this one, although i suffered from many other ideas that came in between and slowed down the process. And liek i said before, the dark purple color was great fun, but bricks were hard to find. And now it's up to you! I see you looking at your screen, all puzzled right? Thing is: i've managed to find some minifigs here and there to have some kids in the sweet shop, but foremost: Elladora herself! I've looked many times around to find her, but i could not discover the grand old lady you should find behind the counter. I leave it up to you to come up with a good suggestion. Anyone? Cheers! Jasper Joppe

Well done! One of those few green ones that work really well!
-
Well Svelte, I think you can do much better than just stacking an existing set multiple times, given your last creation alamut gate is a great proof of that!! Cheers, Jasper!

My turn!
-
Oh, no offense! Haha, on the contrary! For sure you can do a lot more when creating you're own road. Even though the current road plates come close to real measurements, they're still those 32 x 32 squares when put together. I'd love to create a huge display once i find myself another room to display everything, but until that time i (thankfully) have to do with those squares...
-
Hmmmmm.... Howboutacircus?
-
Hang on! This depends largely on the way you tile such basplate... in case you use 1 x 2 tiles you should be a lot more watchful on your wallet! I for one don't think that the money issue should limit your ideas and creativity, exactly like this cae here, but that's a side track to another discussion...
-
Road plates are still working for me, but in some cases i start thinking about tiled or bricked roads, just to have more possibilities with things like pavement, roosters etc.
-
If it was me, i'd choose the second option. Basically the same case with my street, i must say it brings along some practical advantages when it comes to keeping the buildings clean and dust free. With the T-shape set up it would be (a bit) more difficult. Furthermore, the second option shows the best way everything you've done so far, and therefore more enjoyable. Just my two cents!! Cheers, JJ.

MOC WIP: Bricklingston Arial Tramway/Cable Car
Jasper Joppe Geers replied to danim's topic in LEGO Town
Looks like a Jules Verne canon to me... -
Actually, i'm in for a barber shop. Even minifigs need to do their hair sometime don't they?... Oh, and what about a genuine record shop? Or an Apple store??... For sure one of those will appear in my street soon! :)

Your Modular Collection 28 Days Later
Jasper Joppe Geers replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Town
Basically, when i buy one of the modulars, i'll put them together, tweak them here and there, and add them to the others. From there, it's the ocassionally duster every now and then, and simply enjoy it. Like some others, the space problem is seemingly lurking around the corner, but i'm pretty confident that the solution will come in time as well... -
Yes, variation is good, perhaps even nescesary. But i don't think that the FB or GE is designed while looking at CC GG and MS put together. They fit because of the standard on the baseplates. Of course the FB has two higher floors, but come on, its a Fire Brigade! Even in the real world a Fire Brigade has a complete different construction than a Green Grocer... I don't mind. There are more details that actually don't fit.. The Grand Emporium for example does have only an escalator up to the other floor, not one down. Just because it would take up to much space on the ground floor. That's up to us Moccers to put that right! :)
-
For the fire Brigade i think two floors is just fine. You can't expect to have every building in the modular series to be three floor standard... I do not think it is fair to judge the sets when put together and saying it looks nice or not. I enjoyed every modular house so far, and when put together, i made some differences to fit them to the rest of the buildings i created myself. GE to be done very soon!!

MOC: Spanish Revival Apartments - Modular Style
Jasper Joppe Geers replied to Svelte's topic in LEGO Town
Just Superb! Really well executed piece of work, especially the roof! And a stunning way of how to build plants and trees as well! Now give us more of this!!! Cheers, JJ. -
Just my two cents, but... Never forget that it is only you who can decide about what you create, and when you're happy with it! If you feel that this is exactly what you're aiming for, then bingo! I'd say! Cheers! JJ
