I'm in love Honestly, I would pay some bucks for this one if it was a set. It's amazing. I like it so very much that I've put it on the frontpage.

Our member DNL makes this breathtaking Roman Temple. The moment I saw this, I fell in love. Discuss here.

URGENT:Please confirm your participation in our event
Bonaparte replied to Holodoc's topic in LEGO Events and User Groups
I'm confirming my participation to the event! But I won't be able to be there all the period. I shall arrive on Friday (late afternoon) and travel back on Sunday (when I wake up). I guess you'll need this info for booking the rooms and stuff. Zorro was going to drive together with me, I'll send him a PM to check if that's still the case. -

Great, you're accepted and should see the academy on the forum overview page. -
This is looking quite good Captain Zuloo. The line of the ship looks fine and the position of the masts is correct. Only there's an error in the title of the thread as this is a Gun-brig or Cutter but not a ship-of-the-line. Find all about it here.

They are not available on back-order since they are available now. So I don't understand what you are saying

A fine review of a fantastic set. I've helped you this time and resize your images. I think this review is ready to be headlined!

Thanks for that info. Based on your suggestion I was able to find the review in the SW forum.

Very well done Lord Grevious. A solid review as we've come to expect of our bronze star members This is my favorite of the pirate sets (not counting the soldier impulse set) and on my "to buy list". The more I see of this set, the more I want it.

Very nice find Wouwie! I would really like to know for sure how these minifigs are connected to the bricks (of the magnet set). Are the figs identical to the normal figs and can they be separated from the magnet-bricks without trouble? I'm only interested in the figs and couldn't care less about magnets.

The Amsterdam was an East Indiaman built for transport between the Dutch Republic and the settlements and strongholds of the Dutch East India Company in the East Indies. On an outward voyage these ships carried guns and bricks for the settlements and strongholds, and silver and golden coins to purchase Asian goods. On a return journey the ships carried the goods that were purchased, such as spices, fabrics, and china. In both ways the ships carried victuals, clothes, and tools for the sailors and soldiers on the ship. On an outward voyage of eight months, the ships were populated by around 240 men, and on a return journey by around 70. The ship started its maiden voyage from Texel to Batavia on 8 January 1749, but was wrecked in a storm on the North Sea on 26 January 1749. The shipwreck was discovered in 1969 in the bay of Bulverhythe, United Kingdom, and is sometimes visible during low tides. (source Wikipedia) Two weeks ago, myself, Captain Green Hair and the Errorist visited the replica of the Amsterdam. Here's a collection of pictures of our visit. The 2 pictures at the end show an impression of the city of Amsterdam and the maritime museum (last one) which is housed in a former naval storehouse.

Can you elaborate on the exact purpose of this thread? And do you have a link to the old thread you're referring to? I would like to have a look at that thread.

Another very good review of my favorite new pirate set. I like the good insight given in the review and also the comparison picture with the original Imperial Guards. Personally I bought a bunch of these impulse sets to be used as English marines. That is my way of combining the "new" and "old" figs (as I'm using the old ones as English infantry). This set is almost perfect, lots of accessories and 2 blue epaulets. I just love the new shako's with the red plume and the emblem on them. There's only one "bad" thing about this set: the head of the soldier. When using this set as an army builder (or regiment builder) you'll have to replace the head by something more neutral (the classic smiley head) or it will look stupid. But besides this the set is perfect!

Of course not Captain, how could I forget the Batavia During our gathering we also went to visit the Amsterdam replica. I'll share pics soon.

It sure was. Only now I start to realize how amazing this diorama really is. I think I'll go there again in a few years from now. I would have loved to stand on the poop-deck of the Willem and image how it must have been in those days. Somehow I think we'll go there again one day to visit the ship. But next on my agenda is "HMS Victory"!

Did you drink or smoke anything special?

Marines for my upcoming English ship of the line!

I've decided my ship will get custom cannons, so I won't be needing any official ones. -
Marines for my upcoming English ship of the line!

Yes, I'm working very hard on my new ship and I'm placing lots of BL orders to get various pieces. I plan to post a WIP thread when the "Lego part" is ready. Meaning, the ship including masts but still without rigging and sails. Once the rigging and sails are ready I'll be posting the end-result. Personally I'm extremely happy with how the new ship is turning out. -
The first and most important step for building a good ship is doing your research. Last Sunday, myself, Captain Green Hair and Errorist went all the way to an island called "Texel" in the Wadden sea (Netherlands) for visiting the famous diorama "De reede van texel". This amazing diorama gives a perfect impression of the once mighty VOC (Vereenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie) or in English "East Indian Trading Company". Since Texel is an Island, you can only get there by ship. We had some curious guests on the way over there. The following pictures give an impression of this huge diorama which is a must for ship builders. Enjoy!

Having investigated this a bit more, I too think the wheel should be on the quarter deck or just under the poop deck (for 2 decker from between 1750-1815). Reason being extra protection during battle. If it was on the poop deck it would be much more exposed to enemy fire. Also the cables would have to be a lot longer and by consequence would be easier to damage during battle. Good to see another picture of that nice French ship of yours HMS. It's so sad it will soon be on the bottom of the ocean when it meets my English ship-of-the-line

Hard choice as these are all of an extraordinary quality. My vote goes to Entry 4 as I just love that little Dutch 18th century yacht. Those sail are just
