When it comes to LEGO Technic, I love the challenge of creating alternative builds (C Models) that push the boundaries of what a set can do. My latest creation, the Safari Helicopter, is built entirely from the pieces of LEGO Technic 42198 - Bush Plane, making it a true C Model that doesn’t require any extra parts. Design & Features Rotors & Engine Integration One of the standout features of this build is the functional connection between the main rotor blades and the flat-four engine. As the rotors spin, the pistons move, adding an extra layer of mechanical realism to the model. This was a key element I wanted to include, as it brings the technical charm that Technic fans appreciate. Working Landing Gear A helicopter isn’t complete without functional landing gear. In this design, both the front and rear landing gear lift and lower simultaneously, providing a smooth and realistic mechanism. The synchronization took some fine-tuning, but I’m really pleased with how well it works. Sticker Integration & Aesthetic Challenges One of the unique challenges of creating a C Model is working with the pre-applied stickers from the A Model. Rather than seeing this as a limitation, I embraced it, carefully designing the bodywork to complement the original sticker placement. This meant rethinking panel positioning multiple times, allowing the model to evolve organically as I built it. Colour Scheme & Final Thoughts At first, I wasn’t sure how the black, white, and yellow colour scheme from the Bush Plane would translate to a helicopter, but I think it works surprisingly well. The zebra-like patterns and the “Wildlife Service” branding give it a distinct, safari-ready look, making it stand out from traditional helicopter builds. I’m incredibly happy with how this turned out. It’s a unique take on a Technic helicopter, packed with functionality and built only from parts included in 42198. To start with, 42203 is a good introduction set and has a few features. If that buikd goes okay, look at some of the cars and larger builds.

Review - LEGO Technic 42197 C Model - Skidder The LEGO Technic 42197 Skidder is an impressive alternate model, designed by "east_brick_customs", that makes excellent use of the parts available in the set. Designed as a compact yet functional construction vehicle, this C-model showcases the flexibility and creativity possible with LEGO Technic builds. Design & Aesthetics The model follows a classic skid steer loader design, featuring a predominantly yellow and black colour scheme that aligns well with real-life construction equipment. The compact form factor is well-proportioned, and the designer has managed to create a sturdy, realistic-looking frame. Functionality Despite being a C-model, this Skid Steer Loader doesn't compromise on functionality. It includes: - Articulated bucket movement – The front bucket can be raised and tilted, replicating the movements of a real skid steer. - Rear-mounted mechanism – This model incorporates a simple mechanism at the rear, representing a ripper. - Steering system – Though simplified compared to official LEGO sets, the steering mimics the skid steer operation effectively. Build Experience The construction process is enjoyable, offering a good balance between simplicity and technical complexity. I am using 42203 as the base for my latest multi-function truck. I will be designing and building a range of attachments for this. Custom Attachment: The Rubbish Loader This is the first of my modifications / attachments for the LEGO Technic 42203 Tipping Dump Truck. As part of this attachment, I’ve removed the original tilt tray and replaced it with a fixed rear tray, allowing for a more stable and functional design. The sides have also been removed and completely redesigned to better accommodate the rubbish loader mechanism. This same mounting standard will be used for all future attachments. Key Features: - Bin Loader from LEGO 42167: The rubbish loader is adapted from the mechanism found in set 42167, with some modifications to improve functionality and integration with the truck. - Opening Top: The top section can be opened to allow access to the waste compartment, making it easy to load and unload. - Front Storage Area: A dedicated space at the front of the truck for carrying spare bins, adding to the realism and playability. Secure Mounting System: The entire attachment slides on and off the truck’s chassis and is secured at the front using a pin, ensuring stability while allowing for easy removal and swapping with future attachments. Next Steps: This is just the first of my planned attachments for the 42203 truck. I’m exploring additional modifications and attachments to further enhance its versatility. LEGO Technic Set 42197 - Mini Backhoe Loader really stretches the definition of a Technic set. With only one real function—the bucket raising and lowering—it feels more like an advanced LEGO City build than a proper Technic model. While the single function works well, the lack of mechanical complexity is disappointing. Manually moving pieces doesn’t count as a function, and without many gears, pneumatics, or a proper linkage system, this set lacks the engineering depth expected from Technic. Overall, it feels like a simplified take on construction equipment, but not something that lives up to the Technic name. If you're after a true Technic experience, this one might not cut it. It was a easy build and for somebody taking the first steps in to the Technic world, it is easy enough to build, but it also does not really "show off" what Technic is all about.

I love seeing all these mods, the garbage truck mod has given me some good ideas.
