Merlin Mann said in his interview with TTV that he felt the webisodes this year were 'testing the waters' for bigger things, so definitely. It's pretty apparent at this point that he meant this show as far as 'bigger things,' but I guess there's no reason that this in turn can't be a test for the viability of a longer series. Just stepping things up year-by-year to see what the market is going to consume. I do wonder whether these four episodes will constitute the entire year's story, or if there will be more in summer/fall 2016. I know the Atlantis TV special, for example, did the whole story, featuring summer sets and everything, despite airing in winter 2010.

The original airing on CN in the US packaged it as two episodes, that's how it is on Netflix too. The four episode division was on the LEGO site and I think aired elsewhere?

I was thinking just the same. That said, as much as I would love to keep the current style and avoid stylistic dissonance as the story continues, it seems likely that this is at least related since it's obviously new and has a distinct look to it. Only other thing I can think of is that maybe they used some art from the upcoming graphic novels, but that'd sure be weird.

This absolutely, but for me the animation style is an important and definitive part of the tone and atmosphere of what the story will be. I'm really rooting for Dum!Dum! and Merlin to be staying on BIONICLE because they've demonstrated this year that they are capable of making something very compelling and very BIONICLE. I want to see what they do when they have the breathing room to build a more complete story.

Tinseltown doesn't seem to be around anymore, just doing a quick Google search. They did TLR, Clutch Powers, and Hero Factory for LEGO and that seems to be it. LEGO's go-to CGI animator today is WilFilm, they do Ninjago, Chima, Friends, and Star Wars, but they'll have their plate full next year assuming they take up Nexo Knights too. If Journey to One is going to be CGI, it will probably be an entirely new studio.

Nothing saying the Destroyer will be the same price as the Hunter - in fact, I'd expect it to sit at the $30 point instead. As for historic precedents, there's the Phantoka and their vehicle-riding counterparts in 2008, Glatorian Legend Mata Nui and Toa Mata Nui in 2009, and Takua and Takanuva in 2003. None of them are at the same price point, but assuming that the Umaraks aren't like that, they show that this isn't entirely unheard of.

Early LEGO Star Wars Concepts and Prototype Falcon

Another post, this time on the background art for the original assortment's packaging. -
I'm with the Aan- and Lyi-chir here, in no small part because I greatly prefer 2D animation to 3D (though that's subjective and I get that). That, and I just really dig the style of the current episodes in general, as a modern reinterpretation of Templar's work. For me it would be a dream come true to see it employed in a full series.

Someone else pointed out this easter egg:

Yeah, just one. It really is a shame they had so little runtime to work with for these, but they did a pretty fantastic job with the resources they had, and given the Netflix name drop in the 2016 catalog it is looking a lot like things are only going to get better here on in.

But it's a blurred out peripheral image, kind of like the additional Skull Spiders on the box art from last year, or the hands grabbing at the stolen masks. Part of the art, but non included in the set.

Not that there was ever any doubt, but the "Gathering of the Tor" title for the first graphic novel was indeed a typo, it's "Gathering of the Toa."

...Okay, but he does speak in the book. And the next animation leaked a little while ago, and he speaks in it.
-
If it's a full series, there wouldn't be much trouble at all in adapting this year's episodes into a single pilot. He does speak, we just haven't gotten to it yet in the episodes. And there's nothing to indicate that Makuta is directly possessing him - all we know is that he is 'under Makuta's control'.
-
If you look, a lot of the models seem to have a gear on their... rear. I'm thinking that the new torso might be designed to facilitate a function that plugs in from there, which would accommodate for irregularities in its design.

Whoa. Lewa's lower leg construction is really wacky. I'm kind of in love with it but I'm wondering what the general consensus on it will be.

Someone said the color is green for next year. Weird considering the Toa are set on a lava background in the catalog, not so weird considering Umarak's color scheme and forest background.

Pretty sure that's an illusion created by his shoulder armor and the chain dangling off him.

Ah! Nice catch. That's very reassuring because it specifically addresses the problem of the extra shoulders/ball joints just kind of being there as a result of using a gearbox. Why design the piece if you aren't going to keep using gearboxes, then?

Next episode is out: Unity, Duty, Destiny! What's interesting is that apparently the pedestal by LoSS on the bridge was for the Mask of Creation, not the Golden Mask of Skull Spiders - so Pohatu wondering about the pedestal wasn't a thread intended to lead into the second book, but a bit of foreshadowing for the summer episodes.

What's surprising me is that the Mask of Control is releasing in the winter wave. I mean, you'd think it'd be a shoe-in for the summer. It begs the question what they will be doing with the summer story, but I guess that would for the, uh, story thread. Either way the mask is looking cool. Obviously it's been through some design revision since the version that its cartoon appearance was based on, so I wonder if the 2016 episodes will just wordlessly update the mask's appearance, or what. Also really interesting that the overall motif is now green. The Mask of Control was associated with purple this year, so I would've expected that.

It should be noted, 'To be continued' is a pretty good indication that the web cartoons will still be around next year.

Really digging the Makuta constellation over Kulta in that one shot. Very clearly channeling this.

A little while back I linked to this piece by Christian Faber from Advance, the ad agency that works closely with LEGO. Now he's put up a few more things - a concept for how LEGO Star Wars would be presented and marketed, and a mockup of the original Millennium Falcon box, featuring a very different prototype for the 2000 model.
