New Zealand: "Where to find Lego"
Bricktrain replied to Legoman's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Is anyone doing or wanting to do an order from S@H. I need a transformer for my PF battery boxes I bought from bricklink but dont want to double the price by shipping it on its own. Let me know if you want something or are willing to add it to an order if you are doing one. Cheers -

8265 vs 8043 B model
Bricktrain replied to davidmull's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Your choice on the steering, try both see which you like best. Most parts are easier to get from Bricklink but the PF pieces seem to have come down on shop at home so may be cheaper depending on shipping costs. -

Definitely have LBG, should have white but will have to find them, probably with a white project I have packed away. Hi Allan, be nice if the releases all turned up as programmed, but some seem to show up early and others never at all, especially with the Technic sets, though it could be different in the bigger cities. Are you still in Blenheim, I went to toyworld in Nelson once last year and you had just been there, the shop attendant was asking about my collection and mentioned about a collector from Blenheim and I knew it would have been you. -

The Lego shelves in the Greymouth warehouse were nearly empty after xmas. Was the shipment late or something? -
8258 broke(?)

I was going to suggest you may have left the 8 tooth gear out that meshes with the turntable, as that would allow it to rotate. Mine also tries to turn when operating the upper functions but that is just slop in the drive to the turntable. I have checked all axles are free to rotate but there is a lot of driveline to these functions and quite a bit of friction. I have minimised the movement by swapping the tan non friction pin with axle that the 24tooth gear is mounted on with a blue friction pin with axle, this does help to take some of the slop from this gear. I think you may need more parts for those mods, I guess the moving of the 24tooth clutch gear you are mostly referring to, I am sure it needed a couple of thin liftarms that were not included. -

The new trains are August releases I think, check it in the train forum. The Taj Hahal I have seen in Toyworld for $599, I got 2 on TM for less than $500 each, last year. -
TECHNIC Sets from 2010
Bricktrain replied to LordGalewind's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
What is bad about it, -just because you dont like it? I can see many good things in it, even if its only some of the newer parts in colours not released before, and based on recent price form it is a reasonably priced parts set, though I think I may fancy one for my model collection but will decide once I have it. -
THE OLD Official Eurobricks Straightshooters List

Thanks Pieter, I also recommend (Grrr) Pieter as being a smooth trader. -
I have sent orders to Finland from New Zealand, but dont know what customs duties they were charged. You could look in the Bricklink members list for Finland and ask one thru the contact feature, most wouldnt mind helping you.

The problem with a servo operating a valve is you need to reverse it to centre the valve or a return to centre mechanical arrangement. whereas a dedicated PF operated valve could be made to operate only when switched on, like a solenoid. I guess cost does come into it, but also the more PF you add the less complexity is needed. But there are exceptions like my crane with 8 PF remote functions and 21 pneumatic rams, working suspension on 10 wheels, 8 driving thru 7 diffs and 6 steering. Raised boom is 1750mm high and if lifts 8 boat weights easily. I dont want to think about cost, I soon plan to rebuild the chassis again using the new diffs and liftarms so may finally finish it then.

8049 Forest Tractor
Bricktrain replied to Blakbird's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Informative if it didnt have the links for items for sale, to me that is spamming. I see those on many Bricklink forum posts and it becomes annoying. IMO they are not lego so dont belong on lego sites -
Personally I think that there is a place for all types, it is good to have a variety, some fully PF, others pneumatic and even manual models, it would be boring to have all one style. I would like a PF operated valve also, while it is possible to do without it, it would make it much simpler and more compact.

8049 Forest Tractor

Thanks for that, even more pleased at the pricing now. From the looks of that compressor it would have interference problems with any longer stroke, it probably produces enough air with that amount of stroke anyway as I believe there is no air tank. I just checked technicbricks from your link and see they are spamming those metal liftarms there too, if we wanted to play or build with metal parts we would use meccano. Dissapointed with that article, technicbricks just dropped in my rating.. -

I hope that it is a yellow one, I have plenty of blue. I have plenty if you need some more, and when these get to the shops I plan on parting at least 5 of them so will have plenty more. My store password is train, just ask for a coupon -
just like Bricklink, they make the rule but dont really care.

Looks good Allan, I like the forward wheel position best myself. Seems to be a building boom in Allanton too then

TECHNIC Sets from 2010
Bricktrain replied to LordGalewind's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
The new sets are on S@H, surprised at the log loader being reasonable at $119NZ compared to some sets lately, the excavator isnt that good though,$45NZ -

The new technic there too, the excavator is a bit expensive $45, but the log loader is actually cheaper than I expected, $119 for a pneumatic set is pretty good.
