  1. Since this thread has been bumped again I will add it is a great review and I must agree that the dark red and gold colours are great, so I am in the process of building this in that colour scheme. Also making it a 12 gun ship and a few other changes to use as many of my existing parts as possible. I will have to wait for the QAR set to get the sails to finish it off though.
  2. I dont think the purpose of Technic is for playing in the dirt. The functions are for demonstration so dont have to have the strength of goliath, just to show how things work, that is why most technic motorised models dont have motor drive or steering, it is the other functions which are motorised. They are just working display models. My opinion.
  3. Very nice little ship, just waiting to be built twice that size, imagine the details you can add!
  4. Lots of detail, nice. I think this is the first time I have seen those insectoid wings used.
  5. Thanks all. The shuttle wont be this year, I am collecting parts for the hangar at present and have started the shuttle but wont be able to finish it for a bit, I think the tail end will look like this though
  6. It is almost the same as the 10133 train which you can download the instructions from the Lego.com customer service if its the loco you are wanting, the wagons should be easy enough to copy.
  7. Thanks, parted out a couple of Taj Mahal sets which gave me a good quantity of white but still having to buy the special pieces, closed my store last year and put most of the stock into my own collection. I was planning on 6 baseplates but the hanger building I just designed on LDD will mean another couple. That wont be till I have moved later in the year.
  8. Lego.com Bricklink.com although more parts there, but older sets that cant be found in normal stores anymore, new and used.
  9. I saw your post on the Bricklink forum yesterday. A lot of excellent work there, I am sure the photos while excellent themselves dont show half the glory of this. Great presentation with the storyline also.
  10. Thanks guys, when completed I expect it to cover 6 48x48 bases so quite a bit of work to be done yet, a lot more parts required especially tan slopes for the crater walls. The sharp colours of Mars Mission are very catching thats one of the things that made me want to do this, plus the potential for expansion, think RBR size spaceship maybe? As mentioned I want to try some nxt for the crawler so I am enjoying this project, a lot of variety possible within the scifi theme.
  11. Thanks everyone. What sharp little eyes you have Hadnt noticed myself when I took the pic, I'll blame the Chch earthquake for that. I have lots of parts but wasnt planning on a big deal for this one, I have several big projects for landscaping. Once again thanks for your comments.
  12. Still no price listed for NZ, is it that high that they wont tell us.
  13. After parting out a couple of MMV sets I thought I would have a go at building a tree, so came up with this, and then a few minifigs thought it would be nice to take the dogs down there for the days outing.
  14. Well it may not be the most inspired but I wanted to do something different to Technic and my nieces Mars Mission collection made me wonder about a base on Mars. She has recently given up her collection but I will complete this anyway although it is going to be packed up for a while due to space (sorry) issues. The base is being built in a crater for shelter from the hot sun and raging dust storms. It has a control building linked to an accomodation and research building, a garden unit and a communications tower. The power generators and oxygen storage tanks can also be seen. The interior of the control room Of course they need transport so as well as surface transport there is a shuttle craft. I liked the Star Wars Republic Attack Gunship so modified it for Mars. The surface crawler has yet to be fitted with a crane boom and NXT functions. A couple more pics on brickshelf when moderated marsbase
  15. Like the review The well laid out parts also makes it easy to decide if its worth buying for parts, I know I have two many parts already but I will probably get a couple for parts as well as one for my sealed collection. The mini Las are very handy I have been able to use the ones I got from Bricklink already.
  16. 38 is the notified number, they dont count them until they have notified next of kin, so the 65 is probably the body count though there may still be more buried in wreckage. Still early days so we can only wait.
  17. what about a truck with tipping deck, or a hauler, though it may be hard to make sides with just the parts in the set.
  18. Finding parts by Lego part numbers isnt easy on bricklink , the easiest way is to work from the Bricklink inventory http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemInv.asp?S=10210-1 I am pretty sure all the parts are avilable, I just picked up the hull sections on sale on the weekend from one store.
  19. I wonder. And all my technic, and now I have probably 20 times as much technic, I better not do that with trains though.
  20. To me it doesnt look like there is enough space for wheels on the cannons, the cannons are too close together.
  21. Yep. Hate them for making me like trains again.
  22. I hate this train, and the Maersk. I got out of LEGO trains when they stopped 9v and brought out those horrible RC trains. These make me want trains again.
  23. It looks like you have made a good start. My suggestion would be to use the drive sprocket at the end of the undercarriage so that the tracks have the most wrap around them, then they are the least likely to have any chance of jumping a tooth especially over an uneven surface. A few idlers to help support the track frame would be a help also. To get an odd spacing when using two rectangular liftarms you could just use another straight liftarm between them.
  24. Whatever it is with all those black panels it is guaranteed to be a big seller.
  25. I tried with 8421 and ended up with this http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=3909612
